I saw this tweet this morning and I thought it was super funny. Apparently this dad's name is Laird and every week he gets together with his buddies and types up a list of discussion topics. They seem to run their get together like a meeting. When I read this I was laughing so hard. And then I stopped to ponder if I were in the business of doing this with my friends what discussion topics would I pull out for tonight. I thought it might be fun if we all shared a list of say 4 or 5 funny or serious or current event topics we'd actually like to have a discussion with a group of our fantasy girls club. Please share. Here are mine: 1) Becki's crazy dreams 2) transgender respect/pronouns are easy 3) creative project failures 4) will Kurt Busch ever race in nascar again? 5) annoying highway construction

I love Laird's list and the fact that Riley will call in to the meeting made me chuckle. 4) will Kurt Busch ever race in nascar again? I don't really make lists of any sort since my ADHD just makes a mockery of such attempts, lol, but in response to this topic, I sadly think not. He was great in the booth a couple of weeks ago and you could see how much he missed being in his car. And his brother Kyle is looking so much happier this year with his new ride!!

Laird has a great name! Down the road from is is the Laird's Apple Jack 'distillery' .. Laird & Company is a distillery located in the Scobeyville section of Colts Neck Township, New Jersey. Founded by Robert Laird, it is the oldest licensed distillery in the United States and received License No. 1 from the U.S. Department of the Treasury in 1780. Laird has a rectifier and blender license from the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.[1] Robert Laird, descended from one of Monmouth County's oldest families, served in the Continental Army under George Washington.[2] Washington asked Laird for his recipe for "cyder spirits" before the Revolution.[2] Today, none of the company's production is located in New Jersey. It obtains all its apples from central Virginia and distills its products in North Garden, Virginia.[2] Distilling at its New Jersey facilities ceased in 1972 and Laird's only blends, ages and bottles its products in Scobeyville.[2] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laird_%26_Company

When I was a teen, I worked at a Burger King in a very, very, small, insulated town (read: "I should take a trip over there!" or "oh, absolutely not! I haven't been there in years, why would someone go all the way over there? Refers to a town LITERALLY 10 miles away.)
Anyway, I did the breakfast shift, and, at the time, Burger King did free coffee and unlimited refills with any purchase back in those days. So, a large group of old, retired, nonnos came in every day. They'd each buy a baggie of Famous Amos cookies for 50 cents, tell me they didn't want the cookies, and spend 3-4 hours just talking about everything, every day, sipping their black Maxwell House.
Even then, I envied them their easy friendships (please don't think that there weren't frequent blow ups and insults!- That's where I learned all the Italian swear words!) But no matter how ugly things got- they showed up the next day. And, when one would be sick, or a member of his family, they all pulled tight tight tight together.
I always wanted friends I could talk about anything with, I thought that was normal. I had that in the military. Now, I see how fortunate they were to have their little world. And how fortunate I was to have had my own. I left the military community a zillion years ago. I haven't seen it again.
I can't imagine more than surface discussion these days. And I can't think of 5 thinks I'd want to spend my time discussing in that way.

I think this was partially a scheme to either get out of paying her money or get money from her since her family is loaded. š Iām not a huge fan but heās grown on me over the years.

DSO and I laugh about the fact that if I didn't have football to talk about when meeting new people, I'd be screwed! It's my go-to subject. And if the person isn't into football..... uh oh. I was at a party last night, and these are the topics that were discussed: 1. (a) Essendon have been playing well, will they beat Collingwood in the Anzac Day match on Tuesday? (b) Controversial thought, the Anzac Eve match has a better atmosphere than the Anzac Day match. 2. Our up-coming trip to Thailand, and what's the number one thing each of us is looking forward to. (Our travelling companions were at the party too.) 3. What shows have you been watching lately? 4. What's the best concert you've ever been to? (Me: Cold Chisel. Todd: The Pogues. Michelle: David Bowie. Adrian: Steve Earl. Marcus: Midnight Oil. 5. Various falls, injuries or illnesses that we or our parents or kids have had recently.

Iām meeting up with some friends on Friday and these are likely to be the topics:
-Debbieās adorable new granddaughter, and generally how grandparents are involved in the care of their grandchildren (they both have several, I donāt have any yet) - how my on-again/off-again relationship has been off, then on, then off again since I last saw these friends, and how do I stop this man from continuing to break my heart - how my DS has moved 400 miles south to live with his dad for a few months, and the issues of having adult children living at home - the progression of our old boss's Parkinson's disease - how the Low Emissions Zone is due to come into effect in the city in just a few weeks time, and the impact it will have on us.
And although this all might all sound a bit bleak, there will also be lots of laughter, and reminiscing. š„°

This is great! Dh, who is semi-retired but still farms hay and cattle, has a group of old guys (heās 73) he sees a few times a week at the local farm/feed store. They drink coffee and solve the worldās problems. I give him a bad time and call them the Gossip Girls. He says weāre not gossiping, weāre discussing business. They likely would benefit from an agenda! Iām happy as it gets him out of the house for a bit on Saturday am and I can surf the web and drink my tea in peace!

Yesterday I went to the funeral for a friendās (since childhood) mother. There were many topics my group of friends talked aboutā¦a very diverse variety of topics. š. Here are just a few of them that I remember.
Many, many memories and old stories Music The 6 degrees of many people we know/familiar with Tick bites colonoscopies What various other friends are doing Toilet paper cancer An old āmurderā in our small town and who we think committed it Hanging with Phish and other local musicians before they were nationally popular Hiking trails, places to see/checkout an emergency while hiking and search and rescue responders/learning CPR How old we and others have become New beers/local breweries some books that have been read Skiing and so many more weird and wacky things.

I think Adrian and Michelle had great answers for topic number 4. Ha! They're actually married. And Adrian went to see Steve Earl with my DSO. DSO's first answer was Steve Earl, then he changed it to The Pogues. We saw Steve Earl another time, at an outdoor festival. The first song he played was Copperhead Road, then he said something along the lines of "Right, all of you who only know that one song can fuck off now!"

Yikes, you've just mentioned two of the things on my list - sport and TV. (BTW, is Nascar not a sport?) I will make another list, for the next time I catch up with my oldest friend: 1. Racism in Australia, and the different ethnicities who have been marginalised over the last 70 years. 2. Healthcare, and whether everyone should have private health insurance. (Ooooooh boy, this one got heated!!) 3. The upcoming Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum 4. The meaning of Woke 5. And because we need something light in there...... travel plans. These are all things that we have discussed, except for #3, as that is new since we caught up last.

Just the same way he tries to listen to me talk about crocheting without his eyes glazing over. Lol! I just meant by my post that everybody always seems to either be tippy toeing around more controversial topics or that they are throwing bomb memes up on their Facebook walls. There's no real discussion. No offense to tv or sports meant. I know I'm an outlier. However imagine how you might feel if you were constantly having to listen to discussion about things you honestly have no interest in. Just because there are topics that might appeal to a majority doesn't mean that there aren't people on the periphery who just don't share those interests. I am constantly having to listen to discussions of these kinds of things that I can't participate in. Even a book discussion usually is about modern fiction. And I'm not a snob, there's nothing uppity about me. But there are very few people I run into in real life whose interests overlap mine. And this is a serious sort of left out feeling I often have.

AussieMeg one of my favorite things to do in a party group is walk up to someone quiet and ask them what is one thing they enjoy doing. Usually the person is more than happy to tell you about whatever it is they are passionate about. And I usually end up learning something new too.

My bestie and I go shopping or junkin' every couple of weeks. We work in different towns so don't see each other every day but we do text throughout the day. Often we will text talking points.... things we want to remember to talk about when we get together in person. They can be anything from cerebral thoughts to gossipy. You know, bestie stuff!
