Hi everyone! No real big plans for the daytime today ... do a bit of laundry and take out the garbage ... woo hoo! Emma is coming over after work later this afternoon and then my mum will show up and then Molly and her boyfriend will come a bit later and we are having a belated birthday dinner for me! I think we are ordering Chinese food ... yum! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... it's truly my uniform when I'm not working (hell, sometimes when I am!) ... my fav way to dress! How is everyone and their dh's feeling? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

Haha leannec! I've got gray leggings and a mauve sweater with a hood on today. So you're in good company. How was your birthday dinner last night? What did you eat? I caught up with last nights thread this morning and went right down the rabbit hole of Shen Yun. Geez. I've been reading this morning. But I've really got to stop and do something else because now I'm marinating on Nietzsche and I am probably more liable to go insane than he was. And we all know what happened to him. Does that ever happen to anyone else? Like you just read something and finally the dots all click and you figure out how it applies to current society and then suddenly your feeling nihilistic? No? Just my brain then? 🤣 I will probably quilt for a while. Because...happy flowers! I could use some happy flowers. Maybe some music too. I ended up eating a subway sandwich last night. So tonight I will make the chicken stir fry. Happy Saturday!

Hi Everyone, leannec Have a great day celebrating your birthday! I hope everyone and their families are doing well today. DH went down to ODS ‘s university to pack up some things and bring them home. This is ODS’s last week of classes this year. He will be home for the rest of the summer. We are looking forward to it. Today is a big laundry day for me. I have so much. And I have the usual chores to do. Dinner is going to be determined by YDS. He just went to the farmers market to buy things to make for dinner.

This morning we made our annual start of summer trip to the garden center. We bought lots of herbs and tomato, pepper and chilli plants. I also bought some flowers for the front of the house. Everything has been planted out and watered in and looks good. DH also bought some lawn sand and grass seed to try to improve the lawn in the front yard. We have some really nice bits, but some bare spots. Grocery shopping followed - with a long weekend we needed to be sure to have enough food to make it through to Tuesday. Apart from that, it has been me knitting on the sofa while DH sorted the wine cellar.
Dinner tonight is Thai beef salad. Some of our new herbs will find their way onto the salad, as well as the left over rocket leaves from yesterday.

Rainy and gloomy here today. Catching up on laundry and some housework. Then I’m gonna binge watch firefly Lane that just dropped on Netflix the other day.

Like you just read something and finally the dots all click and you figure out how it applies to current society and then suddenly your feeling nihilistic? No? Just my brain then? 🤣 Ummm, not me! My son called last night with the news he got a big promotion and a raise. I am very proud of him. He is in the automobile industry in luxury cars.
We went to the party and it was fine but I was the youngest one there. Today’s plans include walking in the sunshine, cooking, laundry and maybe Costco.

leannec I had to reread the thread and duh! You said right in the OP it was birthday dinner tonight. Don't know why I had it in my brain it was last night. This is probably an example of how distracted my brain is right now. Time to go do something else for a while. 😝

jeremysgirl - DH marinated the beef(a piece of fillet steak, but you could use any grilling beef) in a mixture of onions, garlic, chillis and cilantro (all crushed), rice vinegar, fish sauce, palm sugar and tamarind paste. I then made a salad with rocket (arugula?), mint, cilantro, basil and thai basil, cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumber and a fresh chilli. I also cooked some rice vermicelli and mixed them in. Salad on plate, slice up cooked meat, put on top. Sprinkle with crushed cashews or peanuts.

Dinner will be a beef burger for DH and a turkey burger for me, grilled if the rain holds off. Along with Potato wedges. I may have a corona with mine...DH gets milk or water as he is taking narcotics for pain relief. He is doing OK...seems to be doing well with mobility, or as well as can be expected.

Dinner tonight is definitely the scalloped potatoes since I didn’t have them last night. I’m also going to make stock from my chicken carcass today (now that the split pea soup is gone, which is what I actually ended up eating last night). It was over 80 degrees here on Thursday. Today it’s cool and getting cooler over the next few days. Back to my fisherman sweaters I go.

It’s been a busy Saturday so far. We went to two soccer games this morning. I then went to the gym. The day started off sunny but now it’s turning cloudy and will start raining in a few hours it sounds like. I went with DH to his parents last night. I can’t believe how much my MIL has declined since I saw her last. I am afraid DH and his siblings need to get together and have a real talk with their dad. At age 88 he can’t keep up with her care. It’s heartbreaking. I think I am going to go for a short walk. jeremysgirl, I am getting a head start on your challenge. Walk a mile with no distractions and see where my mind takes me. Our employee party is tonight. It is at a local restaurant. I can’t even remember what I put on the menu. It will be a surprise.

A neighborhood about 5 miles away had their annual garage sales today so DH and I went ~ thinking it would help us with pricing for ours next Saturday. I couldn't believe how few participants they had! And their streets are up and down and very confusing. But, I got two crab *crackers* for $1.00 and a cut glass cracker holder for 50¢! DH's edger died a few weeks ago so he bought one for $12. Then, he bought a 60's era slide projector with a screen for $30! He is so excited because he has boxes of his dad's slides that he wants to view with his sister. I have some from my parents but not nearly as many as DH. He's been storing his in garage which I told him wasn't a good idea so we shall see. Dinner will be Chinese Chicken Salad as it will be hot again today. Like lucyg said, we're supposed to cool off next week. It should be around 70 degrees for the garage sale.

cadoodlebug, I’m not sure if I mentioned that my stepfather (who was in memory care) died earlier this month. He literally had an entire rented storage space full of slides from his lifetime of world travels. Years ago, I tried to talk him into having it all digitized, but noooo. No one wanted the slides, not even his daughter. His grandson and my BIL emptied out the storage space and took it all to the dump. Hopefully your FIL’s slides are family photos, not random travels that no one cares about. (Which also reminds me, I still have my grandparents’ travel photo albums stored here. No one wants them but no one wants to toss them, either. Thankfully it’s not a whole storage space worth.) And how is it possibly hot in the foothills? It’s 60 freezin’ degrees here.

You too, jeremysgirl?? Omgoodness...after the thread last night I began digging about Shen Yun...suffice it to say I am slightly horrified that we have tickets to some anti-Chinese propaganda show. But, the tickets are already purchased, and I'm not going to make my sweet husband feel bad for trying to plan a birthday surprise he thought I'd enjoy. I did want to go to see the Nutcracker at Christmas, and I think he thought this would be a nice substitute. The reviews are so mixed...from spectacular to cheesy. If anything, we will have one heck of a story about how we ended up in the audience of an anti evolution, anti-feminist, anti-gay, anti-communist organization's marketing efforts, as any ONE of those things would normally have us nope-ing right out of there! I will be mostly looking forward to dinner. Whatever we do, we have fun together. We have reservations at a delicious Italian restaurant. Can I rant a bit? I've mentioned the dads/parents behave badly at baseball. Last night we played our cross-town rival, whom we lost to earlier this week amid a LOT of obnoxious jeering and heckling from the other team (kids, not as much parents). We were playing at a big league stadium, so thankfully we were spread out. First, the "all-star" dads 🤮 on our team started hollering AT OUR (THEIR OWN) KIDS. Ugh. Then as we were ending (a blowout...we lost 18 to 4 and they called it after the 5th inning...though Michael did have a run and pitched well during his stint), the ADULTS on the other side started saying stuff to our kids. And then some of the adults on our side got their panties in a bunch and started talking sh%# and just wouldn't let it go. We all walked the kids out to their bus and it was a tense experience in the parking lot. I seriously felt anxious like I did back in high school when others would start in with "he dissed me" bs. I cannot even imagine what it was like for those boys to go home to their houses, our own Michael included, after their dads were hollering and carrying on. I HATE IT. It just ruins it. It doesn't happen every game but when it does I seriously just want to pack up and leave. We stay because of the kids and root for every one, bc a lot of them don't have parents there at all. I'm really relieved they don't always sit with us. Why. Just why? Hope everyone is having a beautiful Saturday!

My dd's were in dance so no shouting went on. . (Bitchiness though!) Here in Canada, the big sport is hockey ... hockey dads ... and especially hockey mums! They get out of hand at times. Glad I didn't have kids in that sport! Sorry you sometimes have a bad experience!

I hate that the referees allow that tmarschall! Chloe played high school lacrosse. One time at a game the away teams parents were yelling and screaming and just acting like giant assholes. The referee came over and told them if they didn't shut up, he was calling the game and their side would have an automatic loss. I was like, you go dude. I've just returned from the hardware store. There was a break in the rain and Jeremy decided this needed to be day that we pick out new screen doors. My back screen door was broken by Chloe on a tirade a while ago, before Esther died even. So I'm glad to have that one replaced finally. And I have to say there is nothing wrong with my front one except that it is cheap and old. We bought one of those full glass ones so you can finally see our gorgeous interior door. I'm glad to see that cheap one go as I've hated it for all the years we lived here. But I do have a bit of guilt about getting rid of something that is operational. That makes me feel wasteful.

I could be wrong. And how is it possibly hot in the foothills? It’s 60 freezin’ degrees here. Yeah, today it will be near 90 but only high 70's tomorrow then 60's next week!

I have turned most the family slides into digital format, labeling them and the kids enjoy them.. lots and lots of climbing slides!! and 8 mm movies of skiing and taking long hikes in the cascades or olympics..
I saw an article last week about someplace where if you were caught yelling at the officials.. you had to volunteer to officiate 3 games (with trained backup)...make them do the work and they won't be yelling again.

When my sons were little sports were all about teamwork and supporting one another. Still, some of the parents were intense. One family followed their son out of state to college. I couldn't handle talking to them for any length of time, because they were stressful people. Just have fun. It's a game. No one's curing a major disease here. One benefit of covid, was the I wasn't getting almost daily Shen-Yun flyers. The thought of what it really is just disgusts me. No thanks! jeremysgirl, I try not to read anything too intense and whenever I do I get annoyed. I wait for something to resonate and it typically does not. So, I'll stick to fluffy fiction with the occasional self help book. Today has been the most fascinating day ever. It's one exciting thing after another. LOL. I just wanted to make taylortroop snicker a bit. Actually, I did some more purging in my craft room. It's never ending. Now I'm sitting at my explore and plan to try making stickers. Dinner is lamb chops, tater tots and something green. leannec, Happy Birthday dinner tonight. Have fun.

Thanks scrapmaven, I did chuckle a bit. Another rainy day here but I managed to get the dog out for a walk. DH and I sat on the deck for a bit although we had to bundle up. My mom came over for a brief visit and then my brother showed up as well. We have a 1947 Willys Jeep that DH tinkers with and we take out for short rides in the summer. DH wants to buy a zero turn lawnmower but was challenged on where to store it due to lack of space. I suggested that he sell the Willys. He took the suggestion seriously, posted it to a local online buying site and within 11 minutes, he had three interested buyers. Someone is coming to look at it hopefully tomorrow. Today was our Town Wide Garages Sales. I didn’t leave the house because the traffic is nuts, people everywhere and I really don’t need any more junk. Supper was pork chops, potatoes and French style green beans for DH and a salad for me.

scrapmaven I don't believe in living light. I mean sometimes you need to but I would find it very dissatisfying if I didn't have fresh ideas to think about and consider. I actually like those things. I honestly enjoy very meaty books. What I have to be careful of is that it doesn't impact my mood and I can get my brain to switch gears when I need it to. And I laughed so hard about your exciting life, I hope taylortroop sees that because I thought it was funny. My life was equally exciting today. Haha...

ntsf if only every sports league did that. People would shut up I bet. I hope your dh doesn’t have an infection. I didn’t see the Shen Yun discussion from yesterday. I’ll have to investigate. I’ve also never been to see it either. This week dh & I added some base cabinets to our garage entry and open shelves. Today I sanded & stained the butcher block I used for the top. Will clear coat it tomorrow. I hung some shelving in the linen & coat closet. They had some but I needed more. Not without error. Mopped the floors, went shoe shopping- didn’t get any. Put together a stupid mini file cabinet from IKEA. I need to finish unpacking my craft room & organize it. I really need to learn my new Cricut. Planted 5 hydrangeas. 3 blue 2 pink. I know they’ll all end up the same I bet. I really want to finish the bed with lime green ones & white. Did laundry too. No cooking. Carry out salads. sueg are the peppers spicy in that? Enjoy your birthday dinner leannec
