..just read an article that says the pods should go in the dishwasher detergent dispenser "pocket"
If you just toss it in the bottom of the dishwasher, the initial rinse cycle will wash the majority of the cleaner down the drain and not clean your dishes.
end of PSA.
I thought, "Whew, that's what I have been doing all this time."

It never occurred to me to just toss it into the bottom of the dishwasher anyway, so..... yay me, I guess?

I didn’t know that people will just toss it into the machine. I’ve always put it in the dispenser made for it. I know for washing machines, in the older machines we used to just pour the soap powder over the clothes. But we use the dispenser now on our newer machines.

My dishwasher installer told me to put it in the tiny basket that is right at the front of the top rack. I think its really a hand hold. He says that's where the pod ends up when it pops out of the dispenser anyway.

I'm SMH here. I would have never thought to put them anywhere but the soap dispenser.
Why would someone think they went any place but? lol

I've never put the pod anywhere except the dispenser. Then again, I'm old enough that I remember when there were no pods, only powder or liquid detergent you had to put in the dispenser.

I was surprised when I began reading the article. It never occurred to me to just toss them in the dishwasher, but apparently some people do that.

The instructions for my dishwasher state to put the pod/tablet in the little tray on the silverware basket. I have dish drawers so many regular dishwashers might not have a tray, but I think my point is check the user manual for your brand and model.

We tossed it in the bottom when the dispenser door broke on our old dishwasher, which seemed to work for the most part. Now with our Bosch that we got last year we put it in the dispenser, but I know on the website it includes a picture of a tab just sitting in that little basket on the top drawer so who knows. Maybe it works that way for a tab, but they include the regular dispenser for people who use liquid?

I was surprised when I began reading the article. It never occurred to me to just toss them in the dishwasher, but apparently some people do that. My guess is that people do that with laundry pods, so they see it as the same. I have started my dishwasher two times in the last 30 some years, so I never even thought about putting them anywhere else than the dispenser.

I read about just throwing them in the bottom, and after the release got stuck a couple of times in a row, I’ve tried throwing them in. We have a machine that pre-dates pods, so there is no specific instruction manual. There isn’t a difference in how clean the dishes appear. Maybe the utensil holder would be better so that they don’t get so wet.

on my old dishwasher the door for the dispenser holder would get stuck on the silverware holder so I started throwing them in the bottom. The dishes still got clean. But thankfully we got rid of that dishwasher. The new ones works much better and I can put the pods back in the dispenser

I'm one of the geniuses that thought throwing the pods into the bottom of them machine was a good idea. Duh!

The only time I put the pod in the bottom is when I have a baking sheet that covers the front of dispenser. I've had a few situations where the pod doesn't drop to the bottom and dissolve.

The genius designer of my current dishwasher (Samsung) made the dispenser too small for the pods that I use so I'm forced to just throw them in the bottom of the dishwasher ...
The dishes always come out clean but I will say that I am one of those anal rinsers so the dishes go in the dishwasher without anything stuck to them which helps!

TikTok idiots like to spread false shit around- dishwasher pods get tossed in the bottom, the reason Ritz crackers had a ridged edge is to cut cheese and so on. Anything that starts with "I was today years old..." is almost certainly false.
It shouldnt be a surprise that dishwasher detergent pods go in the dispenser meant for dishwasher detergent, but that is what social media has done.

It would never even occur to me to put the pod anywhere but the soap dispenser because at the end of the day it’s still soap, right? Our dishwasher at home predates the pods so there isn’t any little basket for them anywhere else. I’d have to look at our newer dishwasher at the lake cabin to see if there’s a different spot for it.
Although putting the soap pod anywhere else would totally mess up my system. I’ve been working on training my family that the dishes in the dishwasher are clean and should be put away when the soap door is open/empty, and they are dirty when the soap door is closed/full. Nothing drives me more nuts than finding a sink full of dirty dishes when the dishes in the dishwasher are dirty and they could have just put their dirty dishes in the washer themselves instead of leaving it for someone else to do (namely me).

Anything that starts with "I was today years old..." is almost certainly false. When I bought my most recent dishwasher, they told me I just needed to throw the pod in. I still put it in the dispenser. The door opens later for a reason! Sometimes I do use some 'prewash' crystals, for that first rinse/wash where the pod is still in the dispenser. I use LemiShine, it really helps with my hard water. I also make sure my rinse aid dispenser always has some liquid in it. I battle my water on everything. Dishwasher, laundry, my hair!, ice makers, Keurig. Ugh.

Don't use our dishwasher...so if there's no place specified for the pods, why not use regular, powder detergent in the dispenser and not the pods?

I put the pods in the silverware basket. That's where I was told to put it as well.

I was surprised when I began reading the article. It never occurred to me to just toss them in the dishwasher, but apparently some people do that. I recently had a friend mention that she just tosses in the dishwasher, I was kind of surprised that people did that. I thought you'd put it in the dishwasher pocket, just as you would liquid detergent. I don't have an automatic dishwasher but my mom does and that is where I always put the pod, in the same place where I'd put liquid detergent.
