That is so sad. I heard him a lot growing up and can pretty much sing along with most of his songs. I have a few cds and I have a bunch of his music on a couple of my play list. My dad had a couple 8 track tapes that I can remember playing frequently. I was finally able to see him some years ago with my parents and it was a wonderful night. Sadly many of those artist from my childhood/early years are no longer with us.

š¢š¢š¢š¢ RIP I discovered his music with āThe Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.ā I think I wore out that 8-track in high school. Gordās Gold still gets thrown in the collection for long car trips, and my family gets tired of me hitting repeat on some of the songs. My very favorite, which I play every Christmas, is āSong for a Winterās Night. So beautiful. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRIlTvYp0ok&pp=ygUeR29yZG9uIGxpZ2h0Zm9vdCB3aW50ZXJzIG5pZ2h0

This makes me so sad. Gord's Gold is the soundtrack of my childhood - mom and dad used to play his songs on their guitars (I was raised by hippies lol). We saw him in the early 90s and got to go back stage to meet him - such a kind man. Mom and I saw him again in 2018ish at a tiny little historic theater.

He was one of my favorites. Beautiful voice and incredible songs. We saw him in concert several years ago.

VERY sad to hear this! He was one of my favorites back in the day. "If You Could Read My Mind", "Sundown", "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" are all favorites that I remember when I think of Gordon Lightfoot. I've only seen maybe a handful of top performers in concert and he's one of them. He performed at our local college the year I was pregnant. So sad! He will be missed.

He was very talented artist and a great live performer. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is one of the most haunting songs from my childhood - Lightfoot's voice is just amazing for storytelling and that story is just so sad to me, partly because I grew up around the Great Lakes. I had always thought of shipwrecks happening in oceans not in nearby lakes - it brought home just how big these lakes really are.
ETA The radio stations, including Sirius, have been playing his songs off and on all day today and it is kind of hard to hear the Wreck so many times in one day, no matter how good it is. It is such a sad story!

Gord's Gold was one of the first albums I bought for myself. āEarly Morning Rainā is one I could listen to over and over, but there were so many that I loved.

I saw him in concert back in the late 80s. It was in Duluth in an auditorium right next to the harbor in Lake Superior. It was in November shortly after the anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck. The mayor of Superior, WI gave him a key to the city. It was a beautiful evening. I associate his music with my growing up years. What a voice and a talented song writer. He was really special.
