I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now (most not terribly pleasant) and will be having shoulder surgery on June 2. Not an ideal time but my pain really limits my function and has a negative impact on my sleep. I’ve got a complete rotator cuff tear and possibly a second tear. (Doc wasn’t able to tell for sure in MRI and won’t know until he gets in there) I will be in a sling for 6 weeks and hope to be fully recovered in 6-8 months. This will certainly impact my summer photography which upsets me. Blooms, bees, birds, butterflies, hummingbirds. Here’s a nice shot of Millie in the car and another, not great shot but shows both girls trying to squeeze into the same small space. Lol click test

I'm sorry you have so much going on and I know the surgery isn't ideal but just focus on how the bees and blooms will be even more amazing next year when you won't have pain or range of motion issues to dampen things! I've had 12 surgeries on my left arm over the last 18 years and the advice I wished I'd followed was to,
take the time to heal, do the physical therapy, and communicate when things don't feel right!
I pray for a perfect surgery and a speedy recovery, ((((hugs))))

I am so sorry you are going through this and I know exactly how you feel in regards to how it impacts your photography. I had a rotator cuff tear and was diagnosed with frozen shoulder in my right shoulder (I'm right handed) a few years ago. I hated the idea of wearing the sling too and when I went in to be fitted for it prior to the surgery the technician told me "just think of this as a time to become ambidextrous" I'm always up for a challenge so I took that to heart. The surgery went well and I healed fairly quickly. Make sure your anesthesiologist gives you a nerve block for the surgery. Mine gave me one of lidocaine which I didn't know at the time. I have a genetic component that makes novocaine and lidocaine not very effective in my body-it takes twice as much for me to feel numb as regular folks. Because of this I woke up from the surgery in agony. I had to beg and beg the nurse for more pain meds-she didn't believe me-thought I was drug seeking. Ugh! I'm NOT trying to scare you. Just trying to warn you ahead of time so you are prepared. My mother had this surgery and she was absolutely fine when she woke up. Didn't have my experience at all. For the first couple of weeks it really helped to wear oversized button down shirts. I borrowed my mom's. Much easier to put on and take off. Wear your sling when they tell you too and don't cheat. You'll want to cheat-it's an awkward thing to wear, but wearing it consistently will help in your recovery. I went to PT as much as was allowed in my insurance (I was lucky, it was generous) but I was lazy about doing the exercises at home. In the end I was very lucky-I got 100% of my motion back in my shoulder. It took a long time because I had the frozen shoulder to deal with as well. BTW, I did learn how to type with my left hand a bit My shoulder hasn't bothered me since and I was so happy to be able to use my DSLR with it's various lenses and not have any lingering pain or trouble since then. I wish the same for you. I will say a prayer for you on June 2nd. Wishing you the very best for a smooth surgery and recovery.

Sending you good thoughts for a speedy recovery.
I had a spinal fusion surgery in October. Was the best decision ever. I truly have not felt better in years. I hope you get the same results.

Try sleeping on your back with a pillow under the affected shoulder. I was in pain for much of last year and sleeping like that was the only way I’d not wake up in the night from the pain.
Luckily I didn’t need surgery. Good luck with yours!

Luckily I didn’t need surgery. Good luck with yours! I’m a side sleeper but even lying on the good shoulder I hurt. I’ve found using extra pillow right under my chin and my arm draped over it. If that ever fails to work I’ll try yours

Best wishes on the surgery.
I understand it to be very painful and slow recovery.

I hope it goes well and you have a quick recovery!
Everyone I know that has had rotator cuff surgery says a recliner to sleep in is a must.

I have a friend that had the surgery last year. It was a long recovery but he is so happy he finally had it done.
I'll admit, I will miss your photos. Good luck!

Beautiful dogs! I hope you feel much better after surgery. My husband has the same problem with his shoulder. In fact, I sleep in another room because his sleep is so disrupted and he needs the entire bed due to his pain and trying to get comfortable.
How long until you can drive after surgery? I assume 6 weeks?
