I had a snake IN MY HOUSE today. In. My. House. Heard a bumping noise late afternoon and thought one of the dogs had jumped off a bed or something. Walked down to the bedroom end of the house, turned the corner, and there was a big black snake slithering along down the hallway. “I like to died.” (Now there’s a southernism for you.) The male GSD scared him under a glass display cabinet that sits in that hallway. The female GSD was having the vapors like I was. Lol. Like any self-respecting independent female, I immediately called my husband who announced he was almost home. Thank goodness. He said keep an eye on it so it didn’t get lost in the house. Yikes! He got here and we immediately started concocting a plan. I called the 21 year old who was at the Y working out and told him to come home and help. MY plan was to observe from a distance. I needed others to actually be CLOSE to the snake. They pulled the cabinet out from the wall, got him in a 5-gallon bucket, and we took him outside to release him. He was a 4-foot black snake. Non-venomous. Actually a good one to have around. But not IN MY HOUSE. Lordy.

I would have flipped to. Glad it wasn’t venomous but still scary in your house. I wonder how it got in.

OMG, I'd have the vapours too! 😱 You guys are way better than me. I would've proceeded to the nearest exit where I would've calmly lit the house on fire. Spiders, big snakes and any bugs with lots of legs...yep burn it down. (I'm joking..maybe) ☺lol

Any clue how it got in the house??? No idea. And that's a bit scary. We do leave doors open to our screen porches frequently if the weather is nice so the dogs can come and go to the backyard. But that's the other end of the house. I really doubt he came in there and went the whole length of the house. Otherwise, I'll be checking under bathroom cabinets at the bedroom end to see if there's any openings where the plumbing runs under the sinks or something to see if that's a possibility.

My neighbor left her sliding glass door which leads to the patio open, and one came in and navigated to the other end of her condo. Puts a whole new meaning to “Open House”!😉

Rat snake, I think. Ooohhhh, himbs just took a wrong turn somewhere. Means you no harm. Thanks for letting him back out where he belongs. They are very good for keeping down the rodent population.

A black snake got into my bedroom when I was a child. It's very unnerving.
Glad it was a harmless one.

I would have either died or torched the house. *shudder*
(just a gentle suggestion - a warning before the pics would have been very appreciated - I have a huge snake phobia)

No ... just no. I live in a climate where few snakes exist ... and they certainly don't creep around the city thankfully! I would have a coronary!

I don’t think I’m going to sleep either! I had a baby snake in my basement one time and called my son to come get it. No snakes inside!

Eek! We had a garter snake in our house once. Luckily DH was home and picked it up and took it outside. I do not like snakes or lizards.
