Not my finest thread subject, ha.
I'm looking for recommendations for partially prepared foods that make dinner entrees super easy for those really busy days.
For example: Trader Joe's has these shawarma-marinated raw chicken thighs in the meat section that are SO GOOD and all I have to do is take them out of the package and stick them in the oven.
I'm trying out a beef roast from Costco today that's kind of like this.
I'm also open to jars of sauce (ex: Indian curry), frozen foods (ex: TJ's fried rice is shockingly good), etc.
But there have been a lot more misses than hits...so I thought maybe the Peas might have some suggestions! We have pretty much every major grocery store here (Costco, Aldi, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, local chains, Wild Fork, etc.)

I used to use a lot of Stouffer’s meals when the kids were still home and life was busy. Lasagna, enchiladas, broccoli chicken bake, … I don’t remember if there are more, but those were a favorite. There’s a brand of frozen stuffed pasta that i bought that starts with an R. I’d add a jar of marinara or Alfredo sauce, toss in some shredded cheese, and pop that in the oven.
Add a bagged salad and it filled the corners Also, anytime I made something with a lot of prep, I doubled the recipe and froze one for later.

TJ's sometimes has these salmon pinwheels that are swirled with spinach--I pop one of those in the oven for 25-ish minutes and it's a great lunch or dinner with a little salad.

TJs is my go-to for partially prepped food to make in a flash.
I just started a new job this week so I stocked up on some ready meals that are fully cooked and you just have to heat them up. I knew I wouldn't feel like cooking this week.
I like TJ's marinated pesto chicken and bulgogi chicken. Their cacio e pepe gnocchi is also really good.

Check restaurants near you, we found a chef at a restaurant on our block and we just order her food box every week. It's less expensive than if I were buying groceries and I just have to heat and sometimes add a side and salad. These are the menus last week and this week, I just searched for food box in my area when we moved. We irder on Thursdays and pickup on Saturdays and have a whole weeks worth of meals.

Rana Lasagna is so good I worked it into our so-called dinner rotation. A close second is Michael Angelo frozen lasagna.
There’s so much out there that I thought I’d share the best. Avoid Stouffers, avoid Costco, etc.
You’re welcome

I like to buy a big package of hamburger and precooked it, then freeze. It seems to make it easier to throw spaghetti, tacos, Sloppy Joes, chili together if the meat is already cooked.

My big kids introduced us to this one and it's a nice easy dinner that my picky teen actually eats
one bag of Aldi Orange chicken or Gen. Tso's chicken, one bag of cauliflower rice (we like the fried rice version for this but plain works fine), one bag of stirfry veggies. Stick the chicken in the oven, the cauliflower rice in the microwave, and stir fry the veg. Mix them all together with the sauce packet from the chicken.

There’s a chicken tikka masala at Costco that you just heat up. I serve it with the naan sold by Costco.

I'm not sure if you would consider them a convenience food, but some of our favorite recipes are made in our Instant Pot. Some do require a little bit of prep, but they're pretty easy and even I can't screw them up. 😂

Wow how can she sell so cheap? Is that enough for two people or do you need two boxes? I'd buy from her too. Great idea but I think she needs to raise her prices!

I've mentioned this before, but Bertolli's Italian Sausage & Rigatoni (frozen aisle). We buy a 12-oz, fully-cooked, Polish kielbasa and cut it into slices, then cut the slices in half. Divide into thirds; freeze 2 for future meals and throw one into the last couple cooking minutes of the Bertolli's. Makes enough for 2 adults. We have a salad every dinner, so I almost forgot to mention that.
Another meal using another segment of the kielbasa--Add it to a large can of red kidney beans, some large-chopped green pepper, and a handful of cheddar cheese cubes. Heat until cooked through and melted. Can put over rice or noodles, if desired. Simple but satisfying.

Before my nut and corn allergies, I really liked Amy's frozen entrees.
Enchiladas, ravioli, lasagna. All really good. Oh and the burrito bowls.
They are manufactured in the same plant as eggs, nuts, or contain corn. So if you have those allergies, this is your warning.

For easy prep meals I love TJs as well. Also just found some premade carnitas at Kroger that were a huge hit with staff for nurses week paired with nachos--El Real brand, and there are other prepped meats as well.

We get Sukhi's Chicken Tikka Masala from Costco and it heats up in a jiffy. We set the rice cooker and then heat up the chicken. Boom. Costco also sells Rana's Tagliatelle Chicken and Mushrooms, which we like. However, I had 2 separate instances where one of the sauce packets was open when you open the main bag. Uggghhhhhh.

My aunt RAVES about the Costco frozen lasagna. I've heard a lot about the TJs Orange Chicken. I haven't tried it yet though. I second the IP, makes a lot of non-convenient foods convenient. We'd use it religiously after long chemo days for DH.

I served Costco lasagna for lunch on Christmas day to 12 people and they all said that it was wonderful. (I have a dairy allergy, so didn't eat and and can't comment.) I was thrilled, as I had no time to make anything and the gathering (vs the meal) was the main event.

We did not like the frozen lasagna from Costco, but I think we are the only ones! They have a ravioli lasagna that is really good in the refrigerated section, the mac and cheese is good, rotisserie chickens, just about anything Costco has in the fridge section that we have tried have been very good

I love the already-prepared meals from Costco...stuffed peppers and pesto salmon are our favorites. But since you asked about *almost* prepared food... One of our favorites are the Indian simmer sauces from TJ's. I buy a bag of TJ's boneless skinless chicken thighs, put those directly into a large pan on the stove, heat them a bit until they thaw so that I can scoop out the liquid, then pour on the sauce and simmer until the chicken is cooked. Serve on rice, which you can buy frozen from TJ's. For a vegetable I usually serve green beans or cauliflower since both go well with the simmer sauces when some runs over onto the vegetable side of your plate.
Another good one is to buy that roasted tomato soup in a box (I forget the brand) and add frozen tortellinis to it. Heat until the tortellini is cooked.

I also like the soups from Costco. I freeze them in the container and can thaw to reheat or put the frozen block in the crock pot. We really like the street tacos and stir fry. The marinated chicken skewers served with a salad are also popular here. And another vote for the lasagna… especially if you pick up the frozen cheese bread to go with it!

We love the chopped salads and add in some protein and extra veggies to make it a meal. Taylors Farms is our favorite brand, although Target's Good & Gather brand is also good. Our favorite is the maple bourbon bacon and buy a chunk of smoked salmon and lightly flake it and mix it in. Okay, that's not a cooked suggestion Along the same line, Taylors Farm has chopped fresh stir fry bags with sauce included (our grocery store had either teriyaki or a sesame ginger?). Last week I threw rice in the microwave cooker for 12 minutes and diced a package of fresh chicken tenderloins and had the stir fry done at the same time as the rice. Super easy and tasty! I'm fussy about my stir fry and have never had a frozen one I like the consistency of, so I prefer these by far.

We used to like the ravioli in the deli section from Costco but the last time it had a bad underlying flavor and I haven’t risked it since. Same with the frozen lasagna. We used to buy it for years and then 5 years ago or so maybe longer they improved it and we didn’t like the change.
We like the orange chicken and the tempura shrimp from Costco.
We have tried the taco kits from the deli and they were good. Love the rotisserie chickens. The gyros kit was good. We also like the different seasoned Mexican meats del rio brand in the deli section. It’s precooked and you just heat it up. Makes for easy tacos or burritos.
Trader Joe’s has a frozen Kung poa chicken that we like. I usually add extra peppers.

Costco has the Kevins’s sauces with the protein (chicken or steak)… we like the curry chicken.
We also love the carnitas from TJs.

One night last week we did Chinese dumplings, sort of like going to Yum Cha, but at home. I bought a variety of frozen dumplings from my Asian supermarket (you may be able to get them at your regular grocery, but I'm in Germany!) and they just needed to be steamed for 10 minutes to be ready. We already had sauces for dipping, but I could have bought them when I got the dumplings. They were yum - as good as I've had in Chinese restaurants, and we just kept steaming more as we needed them.
