I'm so bad at this. Watching a TV show or movie, I stop and look up actors if I think I recognize them. My newest find.. I was watching Gilmore Girls this morning while working and if you are a GG fan, it was the episode where Rory stole a yacht with her boyfriend and is in her community service class. I thought the instructor looked familiar...it ended up being the janitor, Carl, from The Breakfast Club. lol (and it wasn't who I thought it was)
I do this all the time. WHY? I don't know. Who have you found?

We do this all the time! What’s weird is when you recognize (or think you do) someone and you look them up, but they haven’t been in anything you’re seen. What’s really funny is when we see someone, and I ask what they’ve been in, and my DH knows who it is and says, “oh, they’ve been in a lot of things.” LOL

Yep - and even though I’ve done it already, EVERY time I watch FBI - I swear I’ve seen O A in something else. And I’ve IMBDd him - he’s been in nothing I’ve seen!

DH and I usually say something like "Wow he looks good since he died in his last movie," or some hint that the actor was in something else.
We've been watching CSI Las Vegas recently and the new phrase is" is there anyone that wasn't in this show?"

Our cable box has a feature where it will show you other things that an actor has been in. My dad is notorious for pointing out actors who have been on Star Trek, Twilight Zone, etc.
I am definitely guilty of looking actors up as I'm watching something, but I definitely feel like there are errors on sites like IMDB. In fact, I was just discussing this elsewhere the other day. RD Robb, who played Schwartz in A Christmas Story, has a credit as a character Roy in the movie Matilda. When that movie was made, he was too old to be one of the school kids, but too young to be the guy getting gooped up for Million Dollar Sticky. Who is he in this movie? I have no idea. I have reason to believe no such character exists because I have seen that movie more times than I can count, but the internet insists he's in it.

Yes ALL THE TIME! I have to put my iPad across the room so I stop and focus on what I'm watching. Yep - and even though I’ve done it already, EVERY time I watch FBI - I swear I’ve seen O A in something else. And I’ve IMBDd him - he’s been in nothing I’ve seen! O A YUM! There is just something about that smirky smile that gets me.

Totally guilty of this and it drives my DH crazy. He is not into stars or knowing anything about them. So when I start down the rabbit hole he just rolls his eyes and says "well DUH he/she is an actor"

Oh yes!! Thank God for IMDB! Just the other day I saw that a guy who was starring in a Hallmark movie was one of the "models" (not sure what to call that!!) on the Price is Right! LOL!

All The Time. I just did it this morning. Sometimes I find out things about actors that maybe I didn’t want to know, like being a member of Scientology.
It happens all the time, you know you’ve seen them in something else and it just won’t come to you. Then it’s either, “Oh ya” or “Really?”.
Thank goodness for IMDB.

We've been watching CSI Las Vegas recently and the new phrase is" is there anyone that wasn't in this show?" I have been streaming the original series for what feels like FOREVER! 16 seasons! Finally down to about 10 episodes left! But yes everyone has been on this show! And to the original question - we do this all the time!!!

All the time. We watch Practical Magic each year and this year, during one of the store scenes, I said, "OMG! Monica!" The actress who played the druggie mom on Shameless was in Practical Magic! Looked it up and sure enough!

I generally don't do it with people, bu I do with places or things I see that may be new to me. But not all the time though. I think it's great that we can look up stuff right on the spot when some looks interesting.

We do this occasionally not too often. It's more fun to play the heissofamiliar WHAT HAVE WE SEEN HIM IN game. lol
We were watching The Chosen recently and by the way that guy who plays Simon Peter is HOT and looked up this other, older actor who apparently must make a very good living as a character actor. Why, he's even been on West Wing. Of course, who wasn't on that program. Seriously.
But I digress.
Well anyway we did discuss a couple of the characters on The Diplomat and discovered they are actually seasoned professionals we just didn't recognize. That type of thing.
I agree, it's fun

I keep my phone handy when watching any British movie or show because there will always be someone that looks familiar and I need to know why.
It's usually from Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, or Downton Abbey but I watch a lot of those mystery/detective shows and period piece dramas so I tend to see a lot of the same actors in various roles.
I like it, they're like old friends.

Yes, I do this. IMDB is a wonderful and addictive. I really try to search my mind and see if I can come up with where I've seen them before but eventually I have to look up a lot of people.
The most interesting lately was Aaron Ashmore on Ginny and Georgia. He plays Georgia's abusive ex. I thought, "he is the lawyer on The Rookie" and I was surprised he was on two ongoing series at once. Also, he seemed heavier as though he had gained some weight between gigs. Wrong. It is his twin brother! Shawn Ashmore is on the Rookie and his twin Aaron has been in other things mostly streaming.

Gah. My DH watches old, old televisions shows…The Tales of Wells Fargo, Gun Smoke, etc. he pretty much watches them with his phone in his hand. He likes to play a game called “I wonder if that actor is still alive?” Drives me crazy. He then goes down the Wikipedia rabbit hole, and I get to hear him list every show and movie the actor has ever made, how many times they were married and how and when they died. Just watch the TV show already!
I only do it for shows like Colombo and Murder She Wrote because those shows used a lot of old time matinee movie idols who were well beyond their prime and barely recognizable by the time the turned to TV roles. I actually looked up actress Ruth Gordon the other day. She was interesting to read about because she had quite a storied career, including acting on Broadway as well as movies, wrote plays, movies and books and she was an Academy award winner. It was nice to read about such an accomplished woman. She was quite the role model and ahead of her time.

I also want to know where it was filmed. We will all guess. Looks like California, no def Arizona. Maybe New Mexico, etc. We usually just wait until the end credits where it will say where it was filmed. I seem to really be the only person in my family who needs to know this though. They do play along.

Really funny you brought up Gilmore Girls on this. I was on a Delta flight a couple days ago and watched "Overboard." The snobby guy looked familiar and it was Edward Herrmann who played him. Guess his style is playing a rich guy.

Almost as bad are when we watch the news and it's announced that some celebrity has died. For some we say "I thought he/she was dead already", then I look them up to see how old they were. Pretty sure this makes us officially old people!
