So interesting. I told my sister about the Merlin bird identifier app yesterday and now she is obsessed with birds and their songs. She wants more, more, more!

Interesting! Thanks for sharing this.
I live in the city but am near a brook. I hear so many birds! This time of year, with my windows open and my head close to it while in bed I enjoy them a great deal.

Yes, this is a good app. I love the chickadees singing year round. They are my favourite, so cute and so many songs. Robins in the summer, they sing and sing in the evening and into the dark. I love feeding birds in the winter because it gives life to the frozen tundra that is here for so many months.

We are HUGE bird lovers here, and love the Merlin bird app. I can identify most birds by their calls but I heard a few new ones this week. So fun. I usually sit out with the dogs a couple of times a day so that we can just enjoy the birds, peace, and quiet.

Funny, I was in my therapists office last week and heard a lovely bird chirping away and I commented to her and she said it is part of a noise machine she uses. It was very soothing, but uplifting.

It's 8am on a Saturday morning here in Australia and I am currently sitting in my study/craft room listening to the birds outside my window. One of the reasons we love where we live is because we live at the end of a cul-de sac which are becoming rare so we have very few cars passing us. We live in suburbia but in the foothills and our native Australian birds are just beautiful to listen to. We are about to put out a birdbox because we have some birds that come and nest each year and sometimes they make their nests in unsafe places. We have kookaburras, possums and yes koalas in our yard at times too! I am making a conscious effort to de- stress my life so we have started walking around a local dam in the evening and that is so relaxing, listening to the birds, saying hi to all the other walkers and kids fishing.
I might try and see if there is an app for Australian birds. We have lyre birds who mimic not only other birds but things like car doors slamming, chainsaws, camera shutter and crying babies!!

corinne11 Merlin works for Australian birds too! They have regional "bird packs" you download for your area or anywhere in the world. Lyre birds and their mimicking are so remarkable!

Just a few days ago my son mentioned he heard a new sounding bird that has been waking him up, but has no idea what it is. I will share the link you shared and the app that was mentioned with him. Thank you!

corinne11 your post sounds very familiar as we too are on the end of a cul-de-sac with an acre of quiet, beautiful land overlooking the lake. We have many, many birds, and your lyre birds sound like my parrots (white-bellied Caiques). They mimic me and other sounds. It's VERY funny. One laughs like me so people think I am laughing but it's Kiwi. We too have many animals but some I don't want to be near (the black bears). I would LOVE to have a koala in my yard. I have loved them since I was a little girl.

So interesting. I told my sister about the Merlin bird identifier app yesterday and now she is obsessed with birds and their songs. She wants more, more, more! Thank you so much for sharing this app. I live in a very old neighborhood (over 100 years old) that sits on a peninsula that juts out into the Chesapeake Bay. We've been here for over 27 years and just happened to buy our house at the right time-it was luck. One of the many things we love about this neighborhood is that it is filled with mature trees-we have 4 or 5 of these trees in our backyard and we have a 150 year old oak tree in the front yard that sits over the driveway. Don't really love that one as it drops it's acorns on my 24 year old Honda (good thing it's an old car) in the fall and is currently dropping sap on it. But it is a gorgeous tree. They actually moved the house plans back to save that tree when they built it. Every late afternoon I sit in my backyard to smoke my MM (medical marijuana) and the air is filled with birdsong. I am so grateful to live where we do. I've always wondered which birds make which songs and now with this app I can start learning the answers. I borrowed a book on Mid-Atlantic birds from my local library to identify them. In the winter, actually from fall through the spring, we have Tundra swans that migrate from the Arctic tundra of Canada and Alaska to the shallow waters of the Bay. We are extremely lucky to have a community beach and they are so beautiful swimming along our shore.

Thank you so much for sharing this! One of the saddest things for me when separating from my husband was that we had to sell the house and I would miss all the singing birds. I loved waking up to birds singing and could just listen to them all day. Now I understand why that was so meditating for me. I downloaded the app yesterday and am having such fun figuring out which birds are making the most music.
