I have a box of paper masks that I’m keeping just in case. I don’t wear masks unless they are required, but do wear my gator when cutting the grass. I find it helps with pollen.

I have tossed several of the fabric ones we were wearing early on in 2020. Will keep all the disposable ones though.

Yes, many of our cute cloth ones I kept and we have a few boxes of KN95 as well as paper ones. I still wear them when traveling, hospitals or doctor offices, and at crowded events. Now that I'm being recalled to the office after over 3 years I plan to add to my stash because it's going to be a petri dish and I've enjoyed not being sick.

We have a handful of N95s and I would like to have a few more on hand. I haven't flown recently, but I will likely wear them then. I also wore one when I was pretty sick earlier in the school year but Covid neg. I don't feel confident that "we aren't going to ever HAVE to wear masks again" either, so I think I will always have N95s on hand no matter what from now on.
We do have a box of non-N95 and a couple cloth ones left--I have thought about throwing them all away, but I thought maybe I might want them for other things---like some yard work or cleaning the bathroom type things.
ETA: I also keep a mask in my backpack and glove compartment---just in case I feel I need one at work for some reason. I have been tempted but I have not pulled it out this year (other than for myself when I was sick).

Yes, I keep a box of disposable masks in my car - there are still some places around here that require them (not many but some places do)

I put away my fabric masks but have the KN95 and disposable since I'll have to continue to mask for the foreseeable future.

I’m keeping the KN95s that I have on hand for when they’re required or requested or we get sick with anything, but I’m ready to get rid of most of the stash of cloth ones. What are some good ideas for recycling/upcycling those?

I still have a big stash of cloth ones, and I can't really bear to just toss them. Drawer full of KN95s at work that I have access to in cold and flu season.

I guess I am not that unusual for being hesitant to get rid of all of the masks. We don't have many paper ones left, so it is mostly cloth ones. The gators were primarily given out by sports teams and have the school logo on them. I was thinking about using them as a sort of dog shirt or something since the puppy goes with us to games a lot. Might be cute, might not. I think I will get rid of the cloth ones that weren't our favorites and keep the rest for awhile. It was hard to find ones that were the most comfortable to wear/didn't make my glasses fog up, but I also don't know how effective the cloth ones are.

We still have plenty of sealed N95 masks. Our state mandate for masks in healthcare just expired in April. I also travel a ton and continue to wear masks on planes. We got rid of all cloth masks a long time ago. I also have a stash of N95s and keep one in my purse or car just in case. I traveled on a plane in March for the first time since they were no longer required and chose to wear one anyway (I have Long Covid issues so really trying not to get Covid again). Typically in the past, I would always have some congestion or sniffles after a flight, but did not this time and realized that the mask was keeping germs out in general and worth wearing (for me). Now we head to Spain this summer and I doubt I will keep it on for the entire flight, but I do plan to bring a few with me and wear them as I feel the need.

Yep - I have a bunch of KN95s. I wore them all week last week because I didn't want to get sick before my daughter's wedding.

I still have a box of KN-95s that I only used a couple of. I also have a pack of the pale blue ones. And I have my 95 that was fitted at the hospital and which I still use there.
And, I did keep a bunch of cloth ones just because I like them. lol. I have a rainbow one, and a Ruth Bader Ginsberg one, one with dogs on it, and a few other fun ones. I've kept them just because, although I wouldn't wear them again since we know better now. Or, I might wear them over the disposable blue ones if we ever had to wear masks again.

Because of my cancer, we still mask. I have caught NOTHING this school year, despite being around coughing, hacking, feverish kids and staff. While my fellow teachers have missed multiple days, I have missed only two for scans and doctor visits since going back to work in October after treatment. Masks work. First things first--I'm sorry that you're dealing with cancer. Wishing you success in overcoming it. Second: I think most of us who have been around school-age children realized that they are disease vectors way before Covid. Their tendency to share everything, including utensils, and poor hand-washing habits make it tough.

Still wearing and buying!
I work from home, but when I go out for groceries or if we go somewhere on the weekend that's indoors, I'm masked; DH wears them for work since he's in-person 2 days/week.
Our work conference will have at least 5,000 attendees this year, so you best believe I'll be masked then as well as the trip to/from.

At least five of my family members have had COVID since February of this year.
I’m kind of surprised by the question. It wouldn’t occur me to get rid of remaining masks, even if I weren’t still using them. But I guess if you’re talking fabric masks, that’s different from paper. I gave away most of my fabric masks eventually. Got tired of washing them.
We all still wear masks (paper or N95) as needed. I am immune-compromised and wear them in all public places these days. We wear them to fly. We wear them in medical facilities even if they aren’t required anymore. The 14yo still wears them to school, by choice.
I’m also surprised you think your idea of tossing the leftovers is mainstream. I read the whole thread. Virtually everyone said they’re keeping masks for future use, even if they aren’t wearing them now.
Stay well.

I am surprised that so many people are keeping masks, but in my most recent post said that I realized that wasn’t the case based on the peas comments. I personally haven’t worn a mask in a long time except at the doctors office, and they provided them. It’s pretty unlikely that I will wear them unless they are mandated or there is a really bad outbreak. And in that case I would need to buy more paper ones since we don’t have many of those left. My understanding is that the cloth ones are supposedly not that effective anyway, so why keep a lot of them around?

Yes. I still carry one in my bag and will wear it if I'm feeling under the weather (it's allergy season) or a doctor's office requires it. I've also found them useful when I mix grout or concrete to keep from breathing dust particles (they beat the bandana I used to use).

Definitely keeping masks. Have a 92 year old mom that we need to protect when we take her to the doctors.
There are so many people out there that are going into the stores and other places without masks and admit they have covid! I know some people don't have others to help them out, but deliver is fairly inexpensive from a grocery store these days.
My son had a kidney stone a few weeks back and I took him to the ER. While I was sitting there, there was a person in the waiting area hacking like everything. He did excuse himself to the restroom to blow his nose loudly, but then he immediately opened the door. My thought was, he just put his germs all over that doorknob and now somene is going to go it there and pick up his germs. Then a little girl came in and she was hacking up a lung and snot running to her chin and she was all over the place. I texted son and said I had to go wait in the car.
Definitely there is still a need for masks around here.

And of course the fabric masks are more trouble and less useful. Even my super-green sister gave up on them years ago. But you might still want to keep a box of paper masks (or N95 type) around. If there IS another pandemic, they might be hard to find again. Remember the early days of COVID. I remember paying $20 for a box of 10 masks just because they were the only ones I could find. Today, that same exact box, same store, after all the inflation we’ve been suffering … it costs $3.95.

This is probably the most selfish thing I've heard in a long time. How can anybody not realize that it's highly contagious and can kill some people, whatever the talk of the latest mutations' being less virulent?I'm sorry your son suffered this painful ailment, and I hope he's fully recovered. Certainly don't wish you to ever have to go to an ER again, but I keep a packet of disinfectant wipes in my glove box for this kind of possibility. Might want to consider doing the same?

Yep - I still have masks.
I got rid of all the cloth ones.
But I have N95s on hand, KN95s and disposable ones.
I still mask when I got into grocery stores or Costco. I don't mask at work right now - but will in a heart beat once flu/cold season comes along again.
And I still mask on airplanes.

My eye doctors office still requires them! I went a week ago, rang the bell, was asked if I was wearing a mask, went in, was told to wash my hands before signing in… so does my allergy Dr. In any case I do think it’s not a bad idea to wear it in Drs offices where people are sick. I will probably also wear it on planes. Last summer we were in an Alaska tour, nobody was wearing masks at all and several people got COVID.

This morning our local weatherman said because of the air quality alert to wear the N95 outside today. This was directed to people with asthma & respiratory illnesses.

I will probably wear a mask when I have a cold and have to be with other people.
It seems that masks are more effective at preventing virus particles being spread from the person breathing them out, than from someone breathing them in (though it does help both). So if a mask will help me not pass my cold on to others, that’s what I intend to do.
