(I remember when it was a very popular cake. I was always mistifyed as it was just chocolate cake to me.)

I think it's revolting and I know that's only because of the color. I don't like things that are wildly artificially colored. Remember the colored ketchups? My kids loved those. I couldn't eat them.
Blue cupcakes, also YUCK etc. Just my weird hangup!
Lifesavers and jolly ranchers and things like that don't bother me. IDK what it is exactly that bothers me about baked goods and sauces being the wrong color.
I also won't eat those black, red, or green tortilla chips.

I don't care for most of the colors in food...blue tortillas for example.

I don't care for most of the colors in food...blue tortillas for example. Blue Tortillias and chips are a natural color from blue corn, not like the artifical coloring in some of the foods like the Red Velvet cake, which I always loved my mom's homemade one, but store bought not so much.
I detested those foods like the colored ketchups, the rainbow colored Nilla Wafers and the Little Hug Fruit Drinks. Goodness. Coloring is so yucky for a person.

Many of the colored tortilla chips are that way because of the ingredients they use. Black chips use black beans, orange chips use a certain pepper, red uses beets, and green uses cilantro. But, probably most of the ones in big stores from major companies are enhanced with food coloring.
I do like red velvet cakes, but I haven't had one in awhile.
I never bought any of the colored ketchup.

I like red velvet cake but mostly for the icing I loved the colored food. I remember the blue french fries most vividly

I missed knowing about colored ketchup (or else blocked it from my memory).
I remember knowing about some blue food and being disgusted with the thought of blue food.

When given multiple options I will always pick the blue raspberry icee every time, blue mouth and green poop be damned. 😁
I never liked red velvet cake mostly because I’m not a big fan of cream cheese frosting. The rest of my family is happy to eat my share.

Ha, we make Red Velvet cake (or cupcakes) almost monthly in my house… it’s all four of my kids’ favorite.

Not a cake fan, but I had chocolate cake occasionally as a child and was never enamoured with it.
I LOVE red velvet cheesecake, but actually had no idea that it was supposed to be chocolate. It doesn't taste like chocolate at all to me.

It doesn't taste like chocolate at all to me. It's really not. There is a scant amount of cocoa powder. It is not a chocolate cake though. It is not supposed to resemble a chocolate cake. The cocoa powder is only there for chemistry.

I never liked red velvet cake mostly because I’m not a big fan of cream cheese frosting. That's because cream cheese frosting should never be on a Red Velvet cake... I don't know when that abomination got started, but it is wrong, wrong, wrong! * The traditional frosting for Red Velvet is an Ermine frosting, which is a cooked flour and milk mixture, that is then whipped in with butter and granulated (not powdered) sugar, to make a fluffy frosting. It is not cloyingly sweet and pairs perfectly with the Red Velvet cake that has just a small amount of tang from the vinegar/baking soda reaction with the buttermilk. *I say this somewhat tongue in cheek. If you love cream cheese frosting on Red Velvet - go for it. Just remember, it's wrong though. I do love a good cream cheese frosting, especially on carrot cake or pumpkin roll. It's really not. There is a scant amount of cocoa powder. It is not a chocolate cake though. It is not supposed to resemble a chocolate cake. The cocoa powder is only there for chemistry. My recipe has 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. The chocolate is a minor player in this cake. As far as the red color, it doesn't bother me. I don't eat this every day, I might make it once or twice a year and eat only a small amount of it. My recipe, and many others call for 2 ounces of red color - which is two bottles. My frugal mother always used one bottle, and filled that empty with water and added that. It was sufficiently red! She didn't do it for health reasons, she was just not one to spend a lot of $$.

I dont think it is anything special and I hate tye dye
Colored tortilla chips are usually naturally colored. Colored potato chips are from different varieties of potato. (Ds' grad party was red white and blue themed and we had both!)

Tie dye.
Is red velvet cake anything different from chocolate cake that has red food coloring in it?

Red velvet has long been one of my favorites. In fact, my last wedding cake was red velvet. I make one (or cupcakes) a few times a year.
Talking about foods being odd colors -- I used to make my children green scrambled eggs on Dr Suess Day but goodness, they were hard to eat. It made the eggs look like they had spoiled. Lol.

My daughter picked cream cheese frosting and red velvet for her wedding cake. In mid June. In the South. At an outdoor wedding. 90 degrees+.
I read her the riot act about feeding each other and keeping the red dye off of her dress.

Tie dye. Is red velvet cake anything different from chocolate cake that has red food coloring in it? Red Velvet does have cocoa powder in it, but not as much as a chocolate cake. It has buttermilk and vinegar in it, which causes a rust colored look. Then red dye is added. www.delish.com/cooking/a38320158/what-is-red-velvet-cake/

I am not a fan of red velvet cake because to me it never really had a flavor, and that was before covid screwed up my taste buds.
I do, however, whenever red velvet cake is mentioned laugh about the red velvet groom's cake in Steel Magnolias that Jackson's aunt baked in the shape of an armadillo.

I don’t like cream cheese frosting on ANYTHING, so there’s that. I don’t think I’ve ever had ermine frosting so I can’t say whether it’s superior or not. I’ve read the recipe several times and said to myself, “Nope too fussy!” And always choose something else. As for red velvet the cake part, honestly it would be close to my last choice. 1st choice will always be white/vanilla. If no vanilla, I’d choose marble or chocolate. Maybe lemon, strawberry or spice would come next. Tied for dead last would be red velvet and pumpkin spice, meaning I’ll eat it but only as a last ditch choice between that and no dessert. The only cake I will not even look at is carrot cake. It’s the perfect abomination combination of nasty cake and nasty frosting. 🤮

Still a funny scene. For those who missed it, google offered the photo when I was browsing around after reading this article.

I make red food coloring velvet cake for my Dsd - she loves it. I'm always delighted to make it for her, but it makes your kitchen look like a mass stabbing happened and I can only taste red food coloring.

I know they're naturally blue but 🤮🤮🤮 lol My dad would eat just about anything. One day he said the two things he would not eat was peanut butter or green icing. Ask what was up with green icing and he said it reminded him of poison. Wierd how our minds think. Those blue/black chips taste the same as yellow ones, and green icing tastes the same as most any other color as well. Does the blue/black chips remind you of something?

I've never really enjoyed red velvet. It just didn't have a strong enough flavor to be anything but an excuse to throw some dye in the batter and have it look interesting even though it didn't taste interesting.

I saw a TikTok where someone used Glad Press N Seal down the front of their dress to keep it clean while eating! It was kind of a joke, but it make me go "ohh yes.. " I am a messy eater!
