This annual discussion always has me wondering 1. Who sleeps in all morning and would be woken up? 2. Wouldn't you just be happy your neighbors are cutting their grass/maintaining their yards? We live in the country and can cut our grass whenever we want without the fear of disturbing anyone. We aren't sleep in type of people even with older kids so we tend to start the day early. I totally understand people wanting to get yard work done before the day gets too hot. Lots of people have different schedules. My uncle will be 90 tomorrow, my cousin told me he slept until 10 yesterday after we had birthday party for him on Monday. I have people in my family who are in the medical and law enforcement fields and also factory workers who all work overnight shifts and have varying sleep schedules. Most people are understanding that it's cooler to do yard earlier in the day, but I think a little understanding all around that not everyone does the same thing can be beneficial.

When I lived in Alabama lawn mowing could start as early as 6 am and I had no problem with that. Here is Eastern Washington most don't start until 7 but contractors start earlier. How am I to know the sleep schedules of all those around me? Yes I try to be considerate but lawn mowing is done when it best fits my schedule and health.

In my previous neighborhood, no one started before 8 on a weekday and typically at least 9 on the weekends, but more like 10 am on weekends. Of course, we didn’t get too much heat other than once or twice a year.
We had all lived together for many years and had established general rules that made everyone happy. We had block parties during the summer where things like this were discussed toward the end of the gathering, after the kids were all played out and everyone was feeling mellow. It worked and was nice.
In this new neighborhood, it looks like almost everyone uses a service and they come when they come. I don’t know the HOA regulations for noise yet. I’m sure if I break a rule, someone will let me know. It had just better not be the neighbor behind me again.

I vote for 8 during the week (but 9 a bit better)
I think on the weekend, it is nice to wait until after 10, but I can understand after 9.

We are daytime sleepers and have been for countless years. The 6-630a doesn’t bother us because it’s easier to makeup the sleep than make up for the extreme heat.

I don't know what the ordinances are but I'm ok with 8:00-ish.

I live in a rural area. I like to mow mornings after the dew is gone, 9:30-10am. I have a large area to mow, so I usually do half one day, and the other half the next day. I have noticed some neighbors mow evenings. Too hot for me at that time.

I do think this is entirely regional as some areas it's just brutally hot later in the day. I feel for shift workers, but honestly their schedule is so off, 7 am vs 10 am doesn't really matter as they are just on a totally different schedule. I imagine a good pair of earplugs or white noise machine will make life easier for them.

Since having cancer, I need a lot more sleep than I used to. It's nobody else's problem except mine, but it's a fact. Our neighbour started hammering at his new decking right under our open bedroom window at 08:05 last Saturday and words were said. Not to him. All we did was close the bedroom window, but he got the message. We're lucky with our neighbours so far.

I mean what time could he start working that would be acceptable to you? I'm guessing it was your neighbor's day off and he had projects to do and 8am really isn't that early.

I am sleeping during most days so it doesn't really matter to me. Earlier is actually better because I am probably still awake at 8 vs 10.
But no one really cares about how night shift workers sleep, and that's understandable. Lawnmowers really don't bother me. The only things that disturb my sleep are loud noises that stop and start suddenly, like a chain saw or leaf blower.
Also I'll say right now if you own a hound and he's allowed to bellow unchecked, or a yappy little fuck who runs the yard all day barking at leaves, I hate you.

Neither do I, although he is retired and can work in his garden any day. We aren't and can't. But as I said, our situation is our problem, not anybody else's. I was just trying to explain in answer to your question of "Who sleeps in all morning and would be woken up?" that not everybody is an early bird.

I was explaining to you the types of people who "sleeps in all morning and would be woken up". You seemed to imply that it's an unusual situation that people sleep late. It's not and just being aware that people do things differently from you goes a long way.

I imagine a good pair of earplugs or white noise machine will make life easier for them. As I said above in my thread I am fine with between 7 and 8, and wouldn’t even complain to someone if it was earlier. But I would suggest the same if I am making a bit too much noise between 9pm and Midnight. 😉😆. And I only mentioned the 2nd shift because you specifically asked who sleeps all morning. Truthfully, noise doesn’t really bother me but wearing earplugs and not being able to be aware of what is going on around me is much worse. When we are at our camp I would prefer if people mowed earlier rather than during the day/afternoon when we are all outside. Just goes to show you are never going to please everyone. Live and let live. 😆

I'd say it's whenever your county code says you can. Probably someone already said that but I'm feeling lazy and didn't read through the entire thread.

I live in the country, so sometimes I am going by 6 or 6:30 am, but the grass needs to be dry. Humidity usually keeps me off it until later. My new mower doesn't have headlights, so I have to quit when it gets dark, but I mow late sometimes too. Just depends on the conditions. Activity starts in my neighborhood when the sun comes up. Feed tractors are usually rolling by 5:30 am. Trucks that go to hog farms run all hours of the day. My favorite time to mow is late afternoon or early evening before the sun goes down. Can you tell that I am not a morning person? 😁

The city ordinance here is 7 AM any day of the week. Same. I'm in Texas and it gets blazing hot so as much as I don't like to wake up to the sound of the lawnmower I understand wanting to get an early start!

7AM any day here. The other day our neighbor was using his leaf blower at 6:30AM, which didn't bother us as we are up earlier. I think he had a bit of jet lag as they had just got back from 2 weeks in Scotland.

One thing to consider, if you want to mow early in the morning. The grass may be wet with dew. Here, if you mow too early, the still wet grass makes a big clumpy mess. Not sure if that applies to where you are. Just wanted to put that out there. 😊 That's how it is where I live too, so I can't really mow until after 11 when the grass is dry.

The HOA gardeners start around 7 on weekdays and I think we can start at 8 but we wait until 9. I admit I am thrilled when the gardeners don’t start at 7 but in the summer months I can’t complain as it gets too hot since they have more places to work on.

Our EPA laws state that you can use lawnmowers or other grass-cutting devices: Weekdays: Between 7am and 8pm Weekends: Between 9am and 8pm Personally, I would add an hour onto those times. DSO on the other hand..... he's usually up and about by 5am or 6am on the weekends. The number of times I've had to stop him from going out to mow the lawn before 9am, is ridiculous. He's already been up for 4-5 hours by that time, and doesn't seem to comprehend (or give a shit! ) that other people may still be asleep.
