I’ve taken over the mowing this year and I like to do it early before it gets hot. What time do you feel is an acceptable time to start on a weekday? Weekend? Just trying to get an idea of how most people feel. Thanks for any feedback!

Weekday - maybe 8? Weekend - 11? Just kidding but don't wake me up!

If my neighbors were to mow at 8 on a weekday I wouldn’t think much of it cause most people are gone off to school or work. (I work from home). I think I’d wait until 9 on a weekend.

I wish it was 9 on weekends here. I swear it is 730am, we are lucky if they wait until 8.

One thing to consider, if you want to mow early in the morning. The grass may be wet with dew. Here, if you mow too early, the still wet grass makes a big clumpy mess. Not sure if that applies to where you are. Just wanted to put that out there. 😊

I live in the country, so sometimes I am going by 6 or 6:30 am, but the grass needs to be dry. Humidity usually keeps me off it until later.
My new mower doesn't have headlights, so I have to quit when it gets dark, but I mow late sometimes too. Just depends on the conditions.
Activity starts in my neighborhood when the sun comes up. Feed tractors are usually rolling by 5:30 am. Trucks that go to hog farms run all hours of the day.

City code here says quiet hours are 10pm-7am. However, in winter if someone needs to snow blow a lot start around 5-6am.
We usually wait so the dew has time to evaporate.

This is how it is here as well. And when it snows the plows are out earlier than 7am as well, and while the neighbors have never woken me with a snow blower, the plows wake me all of the time. Beyond all of this, though, the sound of lawn mowers doesn't really bother me, nor wake me up. But leaf-blowers, oh my gosh, they are most loathed of all yard tools, LOL! I hate them even in the middle of the day when I'm already wide awake.

I think where I live it's 7am whether it's a weekday or weekend. As someone said, no rules for snow blowing/plowing, people do it early so they can get out for work.

Pretty sure my neighbor thinks the appropriate time is whenever I'd like some quiet time to read on my back deck.

For me personally, I'd say 7am during the week, 8am on the weekends.
Some cities/towns have an noise ordinance that says no lawnmowers or leaf blower before 8am.

City code here says quiet hours are 10pm-7am. That got me curious, so I looked up our county code (we're not within the city limits). The only times specified (between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.) applied to commercial/business operations only. And interestingly enough, here's what it said about lawnmowers: "(c)The following noises shall be exempt from the prohibitions of paragraph (a), even when they cause a disturbance: (1)Lawn mowers, agricultural equipment and vehicles which comply with the muffler requirements of the state highway department." In general though, you rarely hear lawnmowers, weed eaters, or blowers in my neighborhood before about 7-8 am. Many of our neighbors use lawn services and they tend to start as early as they can. We rarely cut our own before 8 am but we do get out there early in the summer to avoid the heat.

I wait until 10 otherwise the grass is too wet.
Powerwashing is all day until it gets dark from April to September. I am about to rent one of the stupid things and powerwash for 24 hours straight so my neighbors realize how annoying they are.
ETA: I looked it up and noise is allowed 7am-10 pm here.

This annual discussion always has me wondering 1. Who sleeps in all morning and would be woken up? 2. Wouldn't you just be happy your neighbors are cutting their grass/maintaining their yards?
We live in the country and can cut our grass whenever we want without the fear of disturbing anyone. We aren't sleep in type of people even with older kids so we tend to start the day early. I totally understand people wanting to get yard work done before the day gets too hot.

During the summer, on the weekdays I start as early as 7am and on the weekends I start at 8am-ish.

The city ordinance here is 7 AM any day of the week. I'm in the same city. While we occasionally hear a crew as early as 7 am, most don't get going until 8 am. My own crew usually shows up about 11 am.

No earlier than 7am. It can be 100°+ at 8am or 9am in my area of southern CA in August so people mow early. Doesn't bother me weekday or weekend.

I totally understand people wanting to get yard work done before the day gets too hot. Well there are people that might work crazy hours and are sleeping. My husband is a sleeper so he is always sleeping in. He would rather do mowing in the evening. Maybe some people just have different schedules. Now except for my husband, the sleeper.. like those who are working odd hours I see that mowing the grass at 7:00am might be bothersome. We all don't live on the same schedule. Personally I never mowed before 9am. Usually I like the evening times. I think 9am is a good starting time.

Whatever time your town noise ordinances say you can.
My town 7am M-Sat 9am Sunday & National holidays
Or get a quiet electric mower and mow anytime. It’s the noise that’s the issue.

I would say 7:00 but I'm not really going to complain about anyone mowing at anytime; it gets so hot here in Mississippi if someone needs to get out earlier before the heat ramps up, I don't blame them. It's more common though to see people in my neighborhood mowing in the late afternoon or early evening right before the sun sets.

I totally understand people wanting to get yard work done before the day gets too hot. Grew up in the country so really anytime. Live in more city(ish) surrounding now and I would say 7 to 8 seems like a reasonable time…but also many do wait for the grass to dry some from the dew so many do start a bit later. I tend to wake up early (but don’t really get going for awhile) but as a 2nd shifter, I can easily see people sleeping in until 8 or 9. I am not done my shift until midnight or later and then before I wind down and am able to get to sleep it can often be 1 or 2, and that includes Friday nights. ETA- I live in a Townhouse style condo. Truthfully I would love to vacuum (or other chores) when I am done work at 1 or 2 but hold off until morning. I will, however, do laundry when ever. I know that has been a topic hashed out many times also. I try to be respectful of everyone around me but we aren’t all on the same schedule and IMO it is just something that people have to deal with as part of living in society.

The city ordinance here is 7 AM any day of the week. Same here. Our gardener doesn’t start until about 9. He may start coming earlier when it gets warmer. Construction crews are usually banging away by 7 AM. And the trash truck rolls down our street at 7 AM. We must be the first neighborhood on his route. ETA - Our gardener is pretty respectful of the time. He does a lot of homes in my neighborhood, so he is here several days a week. On Sundays he does the extra work for his clients outside of regular lawn care. But anyways, sometimes when I leave for work, I’ll see him sitting in his truck by our main gate waiting for an appropriate time to start.

Does your town have a noise ordinance? Mine does.
But I’d say:
Weekday: 7 or 8am Saturday: 10am Sunday: none
