Went to visit her with a “bad cold” that turned out to be Covid. Now MIL has Covid, too. She’s 76. Why would you go through with a trip to visit an older relative with a “cold” after everything we’ve all been through? I am super irritated with the cousin. She could easily have canceled the trip. She didn’t even do a Covid test until MIL made her do one, and it popped positive immediately.

Inconsiderate is a nice way of putting it. I hope she has a mild case.

Anyone in 2023 who would allow someone visibly sick into their home is utterly stupid.

That is beyond inconsiderate. And your MIL should have put her out of the house the second she noticed the cousin was sick. Shame on her. We all got free Covid tests mailed to our home so there is no reason for her to have just ignored her symptoms. And there are still testing places everywhere. That cousin is self centered to expose an older person like this.
I realize it is too late now, but I would still have a conversation with MIL about not feeling guilty for turning people away from her door when they look or sound sick. Covid is still out there and she has every right to protect herself. Is this her first case of Covid? I hope it is a super mild one.

I agree—why would you visit someone if you were sick? I hope that your MIL has a mild case and recovers quickly.

No your MIL needs a backbone. And you need a filter and always have.

I hope MIL is back to full health very soon!
Covid is going around like wildfire in our school again.

Best part is the cousin exposed two planes full of people to her Covid, plus everyone she came across in the airport. So selfish. I can't even believe it.
MIL's neighbors have been dropping off food and she got a prescription for Paxlovid, so it's our hope she'll be on the mend soon. She's my kids' only remaining grandparent so we treasure her.
MIL lives next door her her brother and his wife, who happen to be out of town. As soon as she realized how sick her cousin was, she moved next door to the brother's house in the hopes of not catching anything. No such luck. Something else I didn't add earlier because I never on earth thought it would be relevant - the cousin co-owns this house with MIL. MIL lives there full time; cousin uses it as a vacation home and investment. But she is half owner. So MIL couldn't exactly just shut the door in her face.

That was very inconsiderate to everyone exposed. I hope your mother in law feels better soon!

I’m a troll because I said someone letting a visibly sick person in their home is stupid. If you’re worried about Covid and you let a sick person in your house, what the fuck do you expect to happen? For fucks sake it’s not like it’s February 2020! It’s 2023, we’ve been going at this for 3 years! I stand by everything I’ve said in this thread.

This same exact thing happened in February to my DH. He had an out of town snowmobile trip planned with friends and his friend’s girlfriend “had a cold” but went anyway. 🙄 Yeah, turned out to be Covid and my DH tested positive the day after he got home. Thankfully DD and I didn’t get it from him.
I’m so sorry your mom has to deal with that. Hope she has a mild case.

That is a load of assholianism. You don't visit people when sick and travel insurance is there foe this if she was going to lose money on the flight.
