We had two cats, but one passed away in December. The one cat left, Posey, has been a ball of anxiety since. We’ve had a lot of commotion in the house this spring with getting our house ready to sell (workers, realtor, etc). In January she started crying in the middle of the night, all night, every night. We we took her to the vet to confirm it was nothing physical, and just her grieving her sister. The vet prescribed Gabapentin to help her at night. We started by giving her half a pill in the evening and half a pill in the morning. After about 2 months the Gabapentin didn’t seem to be working anymore so we went back to vet where they increased her dosage to a full pill, twice daily. Here we are a couple months later and again I don’t feel like the medication is working for her. We still have a lot of commotion in the house (realtor, inspections, appraiser, etc.) and soon we will be moving out of state with her. She doesn’t like change at all so the move will be hard for her. We have a call in to the vet to see about other options, but thought I’d ask the peas for ideas. She does not like feliway spray and actively runs away from areas/things with that smell. She’s hiding under the couch as I type this.

Poor kitty!
I've had my cats on Gaba from time to time (most recently for an arthritic cat), but man it zonked them out in a big way. I would ask your cat's vet about Fluoxetine. Basically kitty Prozac. I've had 2 cats who used it for anxiety and it was a godsend both times. Good luck!

We have used the Feliway plug-in for our anxious cats.
We also have one of our cats on a half of a Prozac pill daily to keep him from being such an asshole.

We don’t intend on bringing more animals into the house as we want to travel more extensively in the future.

I know that I often recommend acupuncture for humans, but it's amazing for animals. One needle placed in the right place can take away kitty's anxiety and restore calm to your nights. Many vets are starting to incorporate it into their practices. You might want to ask your vet about it.

No advice, but just wanted to commiserate. We had one cat that had anxiety so bad she ate her own hair. It was mostly caused by bullying from another of our cats. After my mom's cat died we decided the best option would be for her to take ours. The anxiety has lessened by being an "only child" but she still struggles some and they've had her on the kitty Prozac which helps a little (she stopped eating her hair, but still will cry for no reason at all hours and the vet has no solutions).

My Milo has been on Fluoxetine a few times. He was always a bundle of nerves. You move your foot and he'd jump high, you don't move and he'd get scared and run away. I don't know if it was the medication or age that cuted him of his jumpiness but he's so good now. Still has a fear of olastic bags though.
2 years ago in May, we put down our older Bella cat. Milo started licking me, a lot, especially at night. He also started meowing at night. He'd sit by the bed and meow until I lifted him up, only to do it again soon. He'd barely move all day. The following spring he finally got a bit of pep in his step. He's finally stopped meowing by the bed. He barely licks me anymore.

I also used Feliway for a nervous cat and found it really helped. Might be worth giving that a go.

We used a combo of feliway and kitty Prozac. It really helped with our cat who kept peeing outside her box.
