Up until a month ago I had no trouble with hip pain.
Then I noticed that if I sat for longer than a few minutes and then stood up, my hip would be very painful to walk until I walked a few steps and then after that it was fine to keep walking. Then, if I sat down for a while and got up, again with the pain for a few steps.
I at first thought I had pulled a muscle or some other injury but it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Does anyone have ideas, thoughts?
Thanks so much,
Mary

It could be a hip impingement. Try icing it and maybe try Voltran (over the counter).
I've had 4 hip surgeries due to an incident 14 yrs ago. Lots of soft tissue injuries!

I have had this same pain - in both hips. I received a cortisone shot in the left hip in October. It worked wonderfully. My right hip started acting up a few months ago so I got a shot in the right hip last week. Also working wonderfully. I am able to enjoy my daily walks, do simple yoga and get up and down from chairs pain free.
I am 58 and deal with arthritis in my joints. Have had both knees replaced because of it. My hip x-rays show arthritis but not bone on bone so sticking with the shots and stretches/walking to avoid hip replacements already.

Could be tight hips. Look up hip mobility exercises on YouTube.

That is most likely an area of impingement. For me, that pain was a result of my hip flexor being shredded. I eventually had a hip arthroscopy on that hip but the MRI didn't show the extent of the damage so the surgeon wasn't able to do everything he wanted to. I was put in a hip brace and non weight bearing for 6 weeks. 2 years later I finally did the hip replacement (which was my only option). No arthritis. I had a cartilage defect that caused the pain.
This most likely isn't bursitis. Bursitis pain will continue. If the pain eases with walking, it is an impingement.
