Sub imploded, no survivors.
I didn't see a thread for this so wanted to start one.
I will post the article in the next post.
There are 5 people aboard - 1 driver and 4 passengers.
They pay between $250,000-300,000+ to get a tour of the wreckage.
I have seen air supply between 96 and 130 hours, so bot sure which is accurate.

A submersible with five people aboard has gone missing while on a tour of the wreckage of the Titanic off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, according to officials.
The Coast Guard said the 21-foot submersible went underwater Sunday morning, and lost contact about 1 hour and 45 minutes later.
The Coast Guard was notified Sunday afternoon that the vessel belonging to the deep sea exploring company OceanGate was overdue, and crews immediately launched search and rescue operations, Rear Adm. John Mauger, U.S. Coast Guard 1st District commander, said at a news conference Monday.
The vessel was designed to have 96 hours of oxygen available, he said.
The search is taking place in remote waters about 13,000 feet deep, Mauger said.
"It is a challenge to conduct a search in that remote area, but we are deploying all available assets to make sure that we can locate the craft and rescue the people on board," Mauger said.
OceanGate confirmed Monday that it lost contact with a submersible.
"We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely. Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families," OceanGate said in a statement. "We are working toward the safe return of the crewmembers."
OceanGate's website says it offers paying customers the opportunity to explore the wreckage of the Titanic.
One of the passengers was Hamish Harding, who worked for the sales company Action Aviation, a colleague told ABC News.
"This is on the site of a wreckage, the wreckage of the Titanic, and so there's a lot of debris on the bottom, and locating an object on the bottom will be difficult," Mauger told Fox News on Monday.
"We have lives that are potentially at risk," he said.
On April 14, 1912, the Titanic hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage from England to New York. Over 2,200 passengers and crew were on board, and more than 1,500 people died when the ship sank.
The ship wreckage was found in 1985, almost 12,500 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean

I heard about that but didn't delve deep into the story. You can put air tags on your luggage I would think they would have some sort of location device on board. Hope they find them.

I heard about that but didn't delve deep into the story. You can put air tags on your luggage I would think they would have some sort of location device on board. Hope they find them. An article I read -from someone who seemed to know what they were talking about - implied that it was likely something catastrophic. I pray that if they are gone it was quick and they didn't have time to know what was happening.

I'm following this story and the more I read the more horrified I am
A BBC article contains this quote
The BBC's US partner CBS sent one of its reporters on a voyage with the same company last year to see the wreck of the Titanic.
David Pogue, who went on board, reported that he read a waiver that described the submersible as an "experimental" vessel, "that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death".
OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush then gave him a tour of the submersible, where he revealed the vessel only has one button and is run using a video game controller.
If they are below water, ugh I can't imagine.

Former Rear Admiral Chris Parry claims a reliable source has reached out to say they'd warned OceanGate that Titan had structural issues 5 weeks ago. The company's in the red and still paying off Titan so hopefully, they didn't ignore structural issues for monetary reasons but yeah.

It sounds like there is very little chance of a successful rescue.
One source said the submersible is bolted shut from the outside. It cannot be unbolted from the inside. Therefore, even if they made it to the surface of the ocean, those aboard the submersible could not open the submersibleās hatch. They would have to be spotted and and the hatch would have to be unbolted by rescuers before the oxygen supply was depleted.

They've been in there 48hrs so far and have 50hrs of oxygen left...I'm not claustrophobic, but there's no way you'd get me into this:

My absolute worst nightmare! My DH was asking if I had heard about it when I got home from work yesterday and I said no. The news happened to start the story of it at that point showing the submersible. I had to leave the room.
Short story: We watched The Abyss years ago in the theater when it came out. At one point there is a scene that just does me in. After that scene, DH looked over at me and told me to breathe and to let go of my shirt. I had the front of my tshirt clenched in my fist and didn't realize I had stopped breathing. Just about any scene involving a long haul without breathing bothers me but then you add a small enclosed area and I'm done.
My YDS is in the Navy and I have told him under no circumstances is he to go volunteer for sub duty. He said I didn't have to worry as he was not the mental sort to do that.
As I was coming to work this morning, I was listening to a news report and I just fear the worst. I do hope that if they are gone, it was quick and they didn't suffer. IF alive, I pray they are found but I don't hold out much hope for that.

I'm claustrophobic - my parents couldn't even get me on the submarine ride at disneyland when I was a kid. I truly hope it was a quick, catastrophic failure - just waiting for the air to run out - oh hell no.

Unfortunate situation, I worry that they have been lost this is what i fear too. it's a vast, deep area where they are. it's a needle-in-a-haystack situation but i really really hope luck is on their side.

Makes me feel just reading about this. I didnāt like the Nemo ride at Disneyland and to be in this little sub ugghhh. Just hope that they did not suffer if it is the worst outcome.

My dad was a 30-year Navy vet, 27 years in the submarine service. There is no way he would ever have gotten on that thing. Just because you have the money to do something like that doesn't mean you should. The Titanic is a gravesite, visiting it is folly. JMHO. I hope they are found but I fear they will not be.

I am of the thought that just because you can (meaning you have the money to do so as well as the free time) doesn't mean you should.
It just shows again that affluent persons willy nilly throw money around without really assessing the situation and if it is right to do so.
It is rather maddening.
Yes it is their money but come on...
A lot of these people aren't the smartest around.

Nothing about that submersible seemed safe and I literally cannot believe people paid money to climb into it.
If there were crew members of any kind on board who needed the job and felt like they had to take the risk, truly, I feel for them. For those who signed up to take a trip two miles down in a vehicle that only opens from the outside and seems to have had all kinds of issues, I just don't understand, and I think I have seen every Titanic movie and doc and have read every Titanic book.

I have seen a few reports that they may be stuck in the wreckage of the Titanic. They were almost done with the 2 hour descent when the last ping occurred (1 hour and 45 min in).

Who am I kidding? I'd be worried about everything - I would never, ever go on that thing. I hate the feeling of being closed in and "trapped" - I don't even like when they lock you into a roller coaster seat. I couldn't do that trip in a million years.

I haven't read through this thread, and I'm trying not to follow the news reports in too much detail because honestly this is stuff from my worst nightmares! I mean, never in a million years would I ever ever EVER do something like this, so it would *have* to be in my nightmares. omg. Just thinking about it makes me and My father was on a submarine during WWII and that's bad enough, but at least they could walk around and had emergency equipment and training, etc., etc. If they aren't already dead from something catastrophic can you imagine the terror? wow.

I saw this story yesterday and was shocked. I thought the titantic was hallowed ground and there were restrictions? I saw it is Hamish (Scottish), 2 Pakastinis (CEO and teenage son), a French expert on the content (I guess Titanic) and the CEO of OceanGate who is the pilot I think. So are there windows on that thing? The only one I see is on the back where the bathroom is šµāš«

Also I saw that communication/navigation are done thru text - which is thru Muskās starlink and only available when they are on surface! WTF? So Iād they have surfaced and that line is down they canāt get out bc they are bolted in. Sounds awful.

There is no way to āinflateā something at that level to raise the sub.

There was a doctor stating this afternoon that if the passengers started to panic they would end up using more oxygen. Last I heard what they have should last until Thursday morning.
So scaryā¦ā¦.
