I know from a past post here about drinking that many peas are teetotalers. Now I am not what I have ever thought of as a heavy drinker. Certainly not in comparison to the rest of my family. I also often go long stretches without drinking at all due to being unstable with my mental illness. But when I go out to eat or make a particularly good meal, I love to have just the right glass of wine with it.
However, my p-doc and I have finally had enough of my instability and she has decided that it is time for me to try lithium. We are doing a gradual movement onto lithium and away from the three current meds I am on. But she advised me that if I get to a therapeutic level of it, then alcohol is damn near completely off limits. Like say one drink a month. Special occasion kind of thing.
I am already the odd man out amongst my family as I rarely drink to begin with and they can't seem to have a single night go by without alcohol. Plus, Chloe is an alcoholic who now has 6 months of sobriety so I haven't been drinking around her either in a move to be supportive.
I thought it might actually be nice though if I had some mocktail recipes to try so the two of us could have a sort of special drink when everyone else is drinking and partying.
Do you drink anything special on special occasions that is not alcohol?

Thank you finsup! I looked at all of them and I didn't see a bad one in the bunch. So many ideas to try.

my go to is an n/a mojito. But we don't really drink cocktails at home, so I don't have a recipe.

I personally love a sangria mixer with a good ginger ale.

I don't drink, but a virgin daquiri or virgin pina colada sounds tasty.

I used to work in the wine industry and became quite knowledgeable. However, I came to the conclusion that if my medication was to work properly, I would need to stop drinking. It is a bit tough, but since Chloe can't drink, join her! I like cranberry gingerale (I buy a lot at Christmas to have all year) with cran-raspberry. I freeze raspberries and add them to this drink. It's rosy pink & so tasty!

My go-to when I don’t want to drink is bitters and soda. It’s not sweet, next to no calories, it’s refreshing, and a no brainer to make.

Simply Raspberry Lemonade (can do the light version if you like), soda water and lots of fresh lime juice. It's delicious!

We use the Bartesian cocktail machine, which has an option for a mocktail, light, regular or heavy. My kids love their virgin amaretto sours and various margaritas. Most of the time we don’t even have the alcohol jars in, and if I decide I want an actual cocktail I just add a shot of whatever alcohol once it’s done.

Nothing so fancy as a mocktail but when I want something refreshing but don't want alcohol, I like those Sparkling Ice flavored no cal bubbly waters you can get at the store or Walmart or wherever. Black Cherry is my favorite but they have lots of varieties. I like to take them to the pool.
I don't like seltzer at all.

I have had like one night of drinks in the past few months because I can't get my symptoms under control. And I paid for it with a rousing round of depression the next day. It's hard when you have a mood disorder, isn't it?

I haven't been drinking them lately because I have had to replace a lot of my water with Powerade due to a sodium deficiency. So I feel like I'm already getting a bunch of flavored drink. But on occasion these would be nice.

I don't drink alcohol at all, so I love a good mocktail when I want to feel a bit fancy!
I love fruity and citrusy mocktails. One of my favourites is one made with lychee syrup, kaffir lime juice, and passionfruit, from our favourite restaurant. They cost $12, so I usually limit myself to one. But one night they had a $150 per head all you can eat and drink event, and I reckon I drank $150 worth of those mocktails!
Tropical punch mocktail - passionfruit, mint, lemongrass, orange, sparkling water
Watermelon 'nojitos' - watermelon, lime juice, soda water, fresh mint, caster sugar
Passionfruit & watermelon 'Margarita' - passionfruit pulp, watermelon. lime juice, orange juice, sparkling water
I went to a very fancy restaurant a couple of months ago, for a friend's 60th birthday. I asked them to make me a mocktail, and they made me something with a non alcoholic amaretto. I never would have chosen it, but it was delicious! DSO didn't like it, it tasted like marzipan which he doesn't like.

It’s not a mock tail, but I love to drink sparkly kombucha.

I had a bunch of fresh lavender and made a lemonade lavender mocktail - it was so fun. Let me see if I can find the recipe. It was basically boiling some lavender and then adding that to your lemonade - can add sparkling water for spritz and a sprig of lavender for decoration.

My kids to this day will choose Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider over alcohol when given the choice. My son is a big beer person too.

I've been enjoying tonic water and a pump of sugar free syrup over ice. (Currently, it's blueberry lavendar Skinny Syrup.)

For summer I would pick a virgin Pina Colada or a virgin lava flow. We had virgin lava flows the last time we were in Hawaii and they were fantastic! If you want something more wine like you could get sparkling juice such as Izze which is low calorie, no fake sugar and it comes in several flavors. I like to mix it with a similar flavor of flavored unsweetened sparkling water so it’s less sweet. www.melskitchencafe.com/lava-flow-drink-non-alcoholic/
