Do you park away seasonal clothes and rotate what’s actually in your closet at any given time? Or do you keep everything there, always?
Also, how do you prefer to store things… are you a hanger or folder of pants, for example?
I’m cleaning and organizing my closet today, and also brainstorming the closet renovation that will be happening down the road. We have a small walk-in closet, so it needs to be well thought out to be truly functional.

I don't pack away clothes from my closet (just my dresser and primarily accessories, swim, and pyjamas get rotated)
I do rotate the clothes on my rods though. I have rods in an L shape and I keep the clothes I'm mainly wearing (so at the moment summer) on the short side and everything else on the longer side. Once I'm ready for warmer clothes - I'll switch the everyday ones over. Special occasion and less often worn (extra warm for when I'm out of state, my Girl Scout uniforms, dressier clothes) stay on the longer rod year-round.
Trousers? dressy ones are hung and jeans/casual are folded in my dresser
We also have a small walk-in closet - the left side has stacked storage (some cubes and some totes) and a short clothes rod (mine), the back wall has a rod with a shelf above (also mine) and the right side has double-stacked rods (DHs - he also has an armoire and dresser plus a decent size reach-in closet for clothes - I have a dresser)

I am a folder of jeans but hanger of pants. I’m a folder of pullover sweaters but a hanger of cardigans. I’m not sure why on either count but it works for me.
I arrange by item type, then subtype (like sleeve length), then color. So all my shirts will be together, then long-sleeved dressy shirts sorted by color, then long-sleeved casual shirts sorted by color, and so on.

I don’t pack away out of season clothes. Fortunately our closet is pretty big, so no need. I also hang pretty much everything, except sweaters of course.

I prefer to change out the clothes seasonally. The less I have visible in my closet at one time, the easier it is to actually use what I have for each season. We have a wardrobe wall (much prefer that to the small walk in we used to have), with drawers underneath the doors. Out of season clothing is folded away in the drawers. I do keep a few items that can work on the edges of a season hanging, they just hang off to one end.
As for pants, definitely hang them. Much easier to see exactly what I have, as well as easier to grab out of the closet. I hate dealing with stacks of clothes (any type) because it's just another spot I have to constantly maintain. I hang clothes together by item, then arrange light to dark in each category. I always go for easiest method when possible. One section of my wardrobe has built-in drawers. The only things I keep in them are acessories, sweaters, shorts and workout clothes.

I hang my out of season clothes in a guest room closet. It's a big closet, so there is still plenty of room for our guests to hang things.

Our walk in closet is huge. We have over 40 feet of hanging space. I also have my large dresser in there. I have most things on hangers and some baskets for items that are a bit more seasonal or don't hang well.

I’ve done it both ways, depending on the size of my closet. (Military wife, 18 moves in 33 years y’all.)
If it’s a big closet, I do like Linda does and I rotate from the main area to the less accessible area. For smaller closets, I’ll pack off season things up in bins.
We just bought a house and the closet is 12x12. I’m not even going to put a dresser in our bedroom, but have everything in the closet. I don’t think I’ll need to rotate anything—it’s a big closet!

I've never rotated in my life. I do need to weed out things I haven't worn in years, but all my things stay hanging in the closet/folded in my dresser all year long.

I have two clear storage bins that go on top of a set of shelves in my walk in closet. I pack away some out of season clothes in those bins - they also have my swimsuits that I use maybe once a year and never get pulled out unless traveling. Otherwise, everything is just rotated. One day in spring and one day in fall, I shift things around. I hate wire closet organizers. I have the old fashioned wood poles and I can pull hanging clothes out and slide other things down and have my current season handy in no time. This is also a time to remove things I am ready to give away or transition to gardening clothes. There are two racks - one over the other - for tops and pants. I have a shorter rack for dresses and anything else that needs a bit more space. DH's side is a similar setup except he doesn't have a long space.
I also swap shoes out once a year. Off season shoes are stored on shelves above the hanging space.
Most of my clothes are on hangers. I'd have more on hangers if I had the space. What isn't on hangers is folded on the shelves. Underware goes in bins on one of those shelves. I have no drawers at all in my closet. I do have a small chest of drawers in the bedroom for some specialty items that I seldom wear and a lot of my hand knitted things I've made. I keep those in clear plastic bags just to be sure no moths get to them. That hasn't happened in years but I'm still careful if it is something I took hours to make myself.
I'm not a believer on only one type of hanger. I've got padded hangers for nicer tops, wooden hangers for shirts and jackets and then some plastic ones for everything else.

I do not. I live in a place where the weather is pretty mild most of the year and so I could need more “winter and fall” types clothes in spring and even early summer like today. And conversely, sometimes fall keeps on being summer… I like all my options easily available (and honestly, that just seems like a lot of work I don’t want to do).

mild climate.. there are no real "seasons" to radically change how I dress.. so it is all crammed into a small space. an old home with minimal closet space

I don’t generally rotate clothes in and out, although I do hang current seasonal sleepwear and some other frequently worn items on hooks on the back of the closet door.
The walk-in closet has two wire shelves with hanging spaces, one above the other, wire drawers and shelves on the end wall, and one rod and two shelves above on the right side.
I use the shelves on either side (and the floor) for shoe boxes, with a some pace on one for folded jeans.. I hang tops on the higher bar on the left, starting with white, and working to black, in rainbow order. Sleeveless, if I have them, are generally first, then short sleeve and then long sleeve items. The bottom rack has cardigans, fleece jackets, fleece sweatshirts, warmer shirts, etc. The shelves and drawers have folded items, like leggings, sweats, school spirit wear from where I taught, hooded sweatshirts. The right side has pants that are hanging, the garment bag with a few dressier items, a couple dresses, belts, some really warm lounge wear. Where my hsuband's clothes used to be I put in a set of free-standing shelves for storing extra bathroom items, beauty supplies, health stuff, etc.
The dresser drawers in the bedroom hold socks and underwear, sleepwear and things used less often.

DH and I each have our own walk in closets. We had them designed with organizers when we built our home. I have plenty of hanging and shelving plus a built in dresser. So no need to rotate my clothes. I do prefer to hang tops and some tees. My sweaters, jeans/pants and sweatshirts are folded.

No, it all stays in the closet the same way all year. I don’t have secondary storage for it. Most of it is pretty modular anyway, so the tops get worn with heavy pants in the winter and lightweight pants in the summer. It all just stays where it is. I have a pretty simple wardrobe though - a few blouses, a handful of high quality tees, a few cardigans and jackets, some dresses and sweaters, pants and jeans, and my athleisure stuff. No real need to rotate any of it.
Work pants are hung, jeans are folded. I hang the tops I would wear to work and put casual ones in the dresser. In general, my wardrobe is organized by function - most workwear is hung up in the closet (a few things are in baskets on shelves in there), home/casual/exercise is in the dresser.

Yes I do rotate my clothes - once around November and once around April.
The like to hang up blouses, dresses and nice skirts. Sweater, tees, pants, jeans, work out clothes get folded on shelves or in drawers.

The only thing I put away for the summer is my winter pajamas. They go in a box under my bed and the warm weather pajamas go in a dresser drawer. This wouldn’t be necessary if I didn’t buy more pajamas than any one woman needs.
Jeans are folded in a dresser drawer, leggings have their own drawer, and pants are hung in the closet. Shorts have their own drawer as well.
Sweaters are folded in a stack in the closet. Warm weather and cold weather clothes are all visible in the closet, but they are grouped together by season. Nothing is packed away for the season.

The only thing I store is my holiday clothing. I have Christmas shirts, pajamas, etc. Same with Halloween, Easter and Valentines Day.
My closet is big enough that I can keep all my other clothes there.

Everything is in the closet, at all times.
The only thing in drawers are underwear and socks. Clothes and bra's are all on hangers.
I currently have a walk in closet. It's basically like an "L" with double tiered racks for hanging on the long part of the "L". The short part of the "L" has one higher rack to hang longer clothes. On the empty wall , I have a 1x5 vertical cube unit, a tall skinny plastic rolling cart with several drawers (tool box and "junk drawer" stuff) and a small "dresser" wood cart. Up above the hanging racks, is a shelf.
I don't rotate my clothes, because I wear sleeveless or short sleeved every day, and layer with a cardigan when the cooler-cold months arrive. Bottoms (jeans, leggings, capris, skirts, etc....) each have there own section.

This is exactly what I do with the exception of folding jeans. All pants go into the same area of my closet, hung up, because I will wear capris during the day and long pants if going somewhere at night. I don’t have all of my clothing unpacked yet but the winter things that I purchased when I moved here, minus the heavy jackets which are in the hall closet, have been move into the guest room. I haven’t taken the time to organize everything yet because I have other priorities, but this will be my final system.

I only rotated seasonally due to space. I currently have a large enough walk-in closet to accommodate all of it. I have summer tops on the top rack and winter tops on the bottom.
I use the closet as a dressing room, so bras and panties are in baskets on shelves.

I rotate clothes seasonally in my closet and drawers.
In our current home, we each have an oversized step-in closet. There are rods on each side of a center divider and they are set back into the closet so there are shelves down each side in front of them. Add in two large overhead shelves and there’s plenty of room for each of us to keep all our clothes in our respective closets. (The exception is formal wear and I keep that in a guest room closet.)
I keep tops & dresses on the left rod with current ones more to the center of the closet. Pants, skirts, skorts, and jackets go on the right rod with current to the center as well.
I use a large highboy for drawer space so I rotate out of season up to the higher, harder to reach drawers.
I also rotate footwear seasonally. I like to keep what I’m using in the most accessible location and move out-of-season to the back.

I keep all my clothes in my closet at all times...first, because I have a big closet and second because I don't have that many clothes. Ninety percent of my clothes are on hangers; the ones that aren't are mostly underclothes, pajamas, and things specifically for vacation (like swimsuits, dive skins, tshirts, sundresses).

We rotate. We have a small walk in closet as well, but also have closets in the 2 rooms downstairs. We each use one for out of season clothes.
Jeans are folded and put in my dresser. Dress pants are hung in the closet.
I plan on reorganizing in the fall and downsizing a lot.

I remember some summers when our kids were young where the winter clothes never really got packed away because summer was rainy and cold. Now we live in a spot where the temperatures are a good 10-20 degrees cooler than the mainland. I wear hoodies most of the summer.

No I never rotate. That seems like an awful lot of unnecessary work to me.
I have a decent sized walk in robe, but I would love more hanging space. If I had the room, I would hang everything, so I never had to fold again. I hang shirts, skirts, and dresses. I fold t-shirts/tank tops, jumpers (sweaters), PJs, jeans and leggings.

I rotate my closet twice a year—fall and late spring. I do have some things that stay in year round due to the weather but generally speaking I don’t want to see the clothes that are out of season when I’m getting dressed each day. I also don’t have enough storage in the dressers or closet for all of that.

I have never needed to rotate before, having had two double wardrobes and two sets of drawers to myself.
New house is much, much smaller (my bedroom is less than half the size of my previous one) and I can only fit in one double wardrobe and one chest of drawers. For that reason I bought a bed frame rather than a divan so there is space to store underneath. So, this time, first time ever, I will have to rotate fall/winter, spring/summer. Not looking forward to it.

I pack away out of season clothes. I use the Amazon vacuum storage bags and store it all under the bed. I keep out of season boots in rubbermaid totes at the top of my closet.
