Two women - maybe in their mid 30s? A little older?
"What time does boarding start?"
"I don't know. But we don't have to worry about it. They'll page us overhead before they leave."
I almost died.

Newbies or extremely entitled travelers. These are the passengers everyone glares at as they board the plane at the last second! With luck, they will be bumped because they aren't at the gate and their seats are given away. This is NOT the week to try stunts like that!

I will say at SJC, they are constantly calling paging people for final boarding, so they will probably get away with it. But still - the nerve.

I kind of don’t understand how not-busy this airport is considering San Jose has ~2 million people but it is sleepy. I guess there are just so many airports in the Bay Area to choose from?

Ha! Give us an update if you see them standing at their gate as their plane pulls away.

Ha! Give us an update if you see them standing at their gate as their plane pulls away. Lol I didn’t see them again and I’m on my plane now. No exaggeration, I heard at least 30 people get paged for final boarding while I was here. It’s crazy. I just don’t hear that at any other airport.

San Jose is still over an hour away from SF. I guess people find it easier to just fly into SFO. Oakland airport has lots of cheaper airlines flying there. It is also only about 30 minutes from SF and you can take the Bart. San Jose airport is not convenient if you are going north to the SF area. Have a safe flight home!

But given how relatively few people are here, there are a lot of pages compared to other airports IME

I once literally ran through the entire Charlotte airport to make a connection when my first flight was delayed and we barely had 10 minutes.
The pilot even made a comment on the intercom about the running prowess we displayed lol…then declared they’d be holding the flight until the bags caught up lol. (We weren’t the only ones delayed).
I can’t imagine just casually expecting a page for boarding, I’m constantly trying to be early and checking and rechecking the gates!

From the gate across the concourse at Charlotte Douglas airport we once watched a man, wife, and infant have a total meltdown when denied boarding due to being late. They had been paged at least twice because I heard it and I saw the wife and baby in a restroom on that same concourse earlier. Both parents were screaming which even made the baby start crying. It was a real scene. But, really, how much do you expect others to do for you when you’re not being responsible yourself?

I thought this was going to end with "It doesn't matter because it will be delayed or cancelled."

These are the people, now adults, whose mothers always raised the roof on behalf of their darlings. Just my theory.

I guess there are just so many airports in the Bay Area to choose from? im not sure about San Jose - but any time I go out of Oakland lately it is extremely busy. SFO seems moderate, not too bad. I feel like a lot of people are flying jet suite too.

When did we become a society with so many whiners? As I often tell my DH, "We are Rome," meaning in its fall.

I’ve heard people paged because they need to check their passports or give a seat assignment, but never for late boarding. Although, I suppose I’m already on the plane when they might do that.

And then there's me who was at the airport 4 hours before her first flight was *supposed* to leave on Thursday... 😐 One time we were really early for a flight, I don’t remember why. But, our bags never made the flight and came on a later flight. I guess we were so early they had put our bags to the side and forgot about them! Lol! I know a few airlines won’t let you check in your bags too early. Leaving Japan once, we couldn’t check our bags in because it was too early. We had to put them in storage (thankfully Japan is good on having lots of lockers and storage areas) while we wandered around and shopped at the airport for awhile.

Thank you for that! Haha, you're kind! I was anxious about traffic and getting through security. One time we were really early for a flight, I don’t remember why. But, our bags never made the flight and came on a later flight. I guess we were so early they had put our bags to the side and forgot about them! Lol! I don't check bags unless I'm forced to. My flight was supposed to leave at 6:05 on Thursday night... it finally took off around 9 on Friday morning. What a pain.

The thought of *anyone* being paged for anything at the Atlanta airport is laughable! Much less because their flight was boarding or they were late. ATL is my 'home' airport, I wish it wasn't because it's so freakin big and busy!

I don’t understand why people can’t pay attention to instructions and board when it’s their turn. Every once in a great while you might miss your boarding group due to a close connection or some other unavoidable circumstance, but for the most part people should be boarding when their group is called.
No one enjoys the boarding process, but it goes so much more smoothly when everyone does what they are supposed to do.
I’ll never forget a Southwest flight out of Oklahoma City years’ ago. My kids were small and it was very early in the morning. My kids wanted something to eat so we got in a long line at Sonic. There was a family behind us with two older teens. Southwest announced it would begin boarding our flight in ten minutes. The line was moving slowly, so I told the kids we would have to get out of line and go to our gate. The family with the older teens stayed in line.
My family boarded the flight when it was our turn. When the plane was just about full and only a few scattered seats were left, the family with the two older teens arrived carrying their frito chilli pies. (It was 6:40 am). The wife started screaming that they were a family and couldn’t be separated, even though the kids were at least 15 years old. Everyone ended up playing musical chairs before we were able to take off so that the family who boarded late could sit together.

I thought of a new term that I just heard, "snowplow mom". She paved the way for her kid and now Princess Poofycakes never had to cross a hurdle or learn a life skill. In this case, she became an entitled jerk.
