We moved into a home built in 1980 and previous owners had 1 dog, 2 cats. The new odors when moving into a new home takes a while to equalize. Any suggestions for getting rid of pet odor? I cleaned the carpets in the upper bedroom floors. The main floor has hard woods and LVP, but I find I still smell on the main floor whiffs of dog. I put out boxes of baking soda and read that charcoal could help. What sucks is that our home is located on a flight pattern for pilot school near Buckley, so after a while can't handle the noise of propellers and need to close windows.

Other that removing the carpet and pads, then deorderizing (Microban) the floor and painting it with Kilz, you probably will never get the pet odor out of the home. Jsut when you think it might be gone, humidity kicks up that deep pentrated smell. The wood floors may need sanded and redone.

We used Bona (they do have a pet variety) to clean the hardwood floors and we did remove every bit of carpet everywhere. In a bathroom where the cats litter boxes were, we did pull up the old (non-wood) flooring and underlayment & replace them both.
But we were able to leave our windows open basically all day, every day, which I'm sure helped.

Our neighbors in our previous neighborhood did this to the new people who bought their home......look in the air/heating vents. They, the former owners stuck dryer sheets in all the vents. That would be to get rid of the smell of pot throughout the house.
Anyhow, put small dishes of coffee ground around the house. You could also put small cups of white vinegar around the house. Both will absorb the smell......I know this as it helps A LOT with skunk smell.

When my FIL was having urine accidents, bowls of coffee grounds in the bathroom eliminated all smells in his bathroom. Charcoal briquets will do the job too.

Look into renting an ozone machine. A million years ago we used them in the apartments I worked for.

Maybe look in to having the ducts cleaned??? We scrubbed our house top to bottom, had the carpet steam cleaned and some of it replaced and our house still had a funky smell from the previous owners. We had the ducts cleaned and the smell went away.

When we were getting MIL’s condo ready to sell we replaced all the carpet and carpet padding, painted all the walls and ceilings with Kilz, got rid of all the fabric window treatments and then ran an air purifier 24/7 for a month. Got rid of most of the cigarette and cat box smells.

I use an ozone machine to get rid of the wet dog smell in the Rv , it works wonder but you have to follow the instructions carefully to use them safely. You can get one at Amazon for less then $100 .

Just curious did you know you were buying a house near an airfield? I just know out in Reunion area people complain about the airplane noise but yet DIA is in their backyard. I love the sounds of the planes. We are close to the airport but we don't get much traffic.

Along with shampooing the carpet and such, we had to wipe down the walls really well to get my DH to stop sneezing (they had a cat)

I love the sounds of the planes. We are close to the airport but we don't get much traffic. Not exactly. Here is the information about what is happening: If you're concerned about the increased flight activity over the neighborhood Safe Skies Colorado is holding a community Q&A session this Tuesday, July 11, at 6:30p at the Koelbel Library in the Forum Theatre, if you're interested in attending. Safe Skies Colorado is a new non-profit that was formed by area residents. Their mission is to provide Centennial Airport (not Buckley like I stated in OP) area residents with a realistic and rational avenue to amend the increased flight school activity over our communities.
A propeller plane flies over about every 15 minutes and continues through the evening, sometimes until midnight. The flight path for the school was changed last summer and they fly much lower.
