I've picked up cross stitching this year after a long time of not doing it. I needed something to occupy my mind and hands for long stretches of time earlier this year and cross stitching was the one thing (out of all of my creative interests) that was so compact and portable. It was like stress relief/therapy/meditation all rolled into one activity and I'm hooked on that idea.
Do you cross stitch, do other needlework or some activity that has that affect on you?

I picked up knitting in law school expressly for this purpose, and I too have gotten into/back into cross-stitching. It's really helpful for my well-being, and cross-stitching is inexpensive and portable.

Free motion quilting is my go-to. But sometimes knitting or hand embroidery.

Watercolor. I inherited a ton of supplies and I go out in my makeshift studio and splash around, no phone, no devices, music from an old IPod so I don't need to stream.
I also play flute. You can't concentrate on problems when you're playing on music. It's one of the only activities that engages both the emotional and processing centers of the brain at the same time and the physicality of controlling your breathing is very relaxing as well.

Crochet can be very calming for me. I gifted a few dozen dishcloths to people the Christmas I was deep in grief.
I also really like quilt binding, but rest of it not so much lol.

I used to do cross-stitch, but not enjoying it the last few years. However, I have recently discovered Diamond Painting, and have found that working on a canvas is very calming and zen-like for me.

Anything that uses my hands sort of acts like meditation for me, especially when I get into the flow. It could be painting, drawing, quilting, etc. I found this color by sticker book at B&N. I thought it was cute, but sort of silly for an adult. But once I started doing it, it sucked me in. I think diamond painting would do the same for me, but I have been avoiding getting hooked on that. I do crochet/knit but it is not as soothing for me because I am concentrating so much on what I am doing, always counting, etc.

I like to crochet afghans. Long rows of cluster kinds of stitches are so rhythmic and relaxing. I don't really know how to watercolour but I like to just play, watching colour bloom and spread on wet paper is relaxing. I don't do it very often, I should start doing it more regularly.

I can just imagine how wonderful and relaxing playing the flute would be. It really is. I start playing moody, minor key pieces and end up ripping through fast, upbeat music and it's a blast. It's how I got through a tough childhood. Still works.

Crochet or knitting. I do very simple patterns that do not require thinking or counting.

I like and do several types of needlework, but it is anything but meditative for me. It’s too fiddly for that. What helps me get into a meditative state is repetitive body movement such as walking and weight training.

I enjoy it. I also really like quilt binding, but rest of it not so much lol. I love to piece quilts but detest binding, we should find someone who does longarming and join forces lol.

I embroider, cross stitch and crochet. I like the way it makes my brain feel and I really enjoy making things. I have a hard time not keeping my hands busy so it works for me.

Paint, sew, scrapbook, cook (gourmet, basic, heritage recipes from 200-300 years ago, Cajun from where we h grew up), pastry baking—the fancy stuff, cake-cookie-and cupcake decorating—once professionally, now just for the helluvit, herb gardening, canning stuff if the recipes look good, training, playing games with the dog—he’s 70 pounds of pure muscle and boundless energy and training and working with him for 2-4 hours one to two days a week in more advanced skills is a blast. And I forgot-sometimes I just like to watch hallmark moves and chop veggies (onions, bell peppers, green onions, etc.) for future use in meals to make it quicker when cooking.
sometimes I just sit and read while the dog or a cat lay next to me and read a boo, play a game on the iPad or make lists for everything in my notebook which after it gets written in the book may or may get read or not Peter paid attention!

I love to knit. Sometimes it is complex and anything but meditative, but a plain simple sock, just knit stitches, round and round, is very calming. I also like those adult coluring books, especially the 'mandala' style ones.

Well, I have a bit of art/craft ADD. I do SO much but love it all. I do what brings me joy at the moment--cross stitch, sewing, crochet, mixed media art, journaling, etc.

I picked up crochet. On an impulse, I bought an Annie's Kit Club series - their Crochet Block Afghan. 30 blocks, each one a different stitch, with a video tutorial (for both right and left handed crochet) to show you the way. Each month 3 blocks came (yarn, pattern, you provide the hook) and once you had all 30 done the finishing instructions were kit 11. It did add up to be more than I'd spend on yarn to do on my own, but this was really great to help with learning the shorthand stitch codes and how to do them all.
I've now moved on to a Hooked on Sunshine pattern, but bought the companion video to go with it so I can be sure I'm doing it right.
Super relaxing!

I cross stitch to keep my hands busy while watching TV at night. This summer though I have found myself reading instead. Once the few shows I watch are back this fall I'm sure I will go back to stitching some at night. When I worked a later shift I would always get up and make sure I had time before heading to work to stitch. I found it just helped me be more relaxed at work. Even now, if my project is sitting out I will take a few stitches in the morning before heading to work.

My main relaxing hobbies are needlepoint, sewing & quilting (piecing the tops mostly). I also start each day off with a mix of puzzles while I have my coffee.
