I don't think I've ever heard the story of how you ended up in Germany. You're originally from Australia correct? I assume it was for your dh's work? Germany is a gorgeous country although I've really only been to the Bavaria area. My german is pitiful though LOL In university I dated a german guy & his parents took us on holiday to Munich & Salzburg. But all the people they wanted to visit only spoke german and I spoke none. It's a hard language! I was still super grateful for the trip though Yes, we ended up here due to DH's work. He worked for the same company in Australia, and they downsized the Aussie business and his job was one that disappeared in the reorganization. One of the IT guys here in Germany decided it was crazy to lose him from the company, so asked him to come to Germany for a year, to buy time to figure out how to keep him. That was 2008, I joined him late 2009 and we're still here, probably until he retires in a few years. We are in Munich and it is just gorgeous here, as well as being a really easy place to live, even as a foreigner. I do speak decent German now, though I didn't when we arrived. These days, a fair proportion of Germans, especially under 50s, speak at least a bit of English and like to practice when they can with native speakers. We've been lucky to find a doctor and dentist - at least at first - who advertise as having a bilingual (or more - my gyn speaks 3!) practice. I had a physio at one stage who asked if we could do my sessions in English, as she wanted to improve hers.

sueg Thank you for the explanation! I didn't realize you had been there so long. The best part of being in Europe is how cheap it is to travel all over, and how gorgeous it is there. And German food is one of my favourites! My son works for a company here that is based out of Schorndorf and he got to go there last September for training, and Oktoberfest in Munich. He still talks about how much he loved it there That's how it is for us in Honduras - my spanish would be so much better if there weren't so many people that spoke english (well, and if I practiced more when I'm not there)
