What's your vacation style?
Same place every year?
A different place every time?
A mix of both?
If you love someplace (a place, city, country, theme park, specific destination), how often do you do a repeat visit?
If you've only been someplace once, where would you love have a repeat visit to?

I love visiting different places every year. So many things to see and do, so little money. 😅
I'd love to go back to Maine. We were in Bar Harbor last September and stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn. Beautiful place.

A mix. Over the course of our 25 year marriage we’ve been to Disney world 7(?) times, Gatlinburg far more than that and random other places sprinkled in. Growing up my family traveled far and wide every couple years (with a camper/motor home) where as dhs family spent all their vacations visiting family in TN. I think bc of that we view vacations differently….I’m more of the “rest when you’re dead” type, where as he prefers a relaxing vacation. I prefer sun & sand while he prefers mountains. It’s a challenge. At the moment we’re on an adults only Disney trip….I’m at the pool and he’s taking a short nap in the room. Bottom line….our motto for vacations is one word….balance (or compromise, I guess 😆)

We took seven vacations to the same place in 8 years, so we definitely are repeat visitors.

When DS was in school we'd go to Hawaii often and 5-6 days up in Yosemite each summer. A few days in Carmel several times a year.
Now that we're mostly retired our trips have all been to different countries in Europe. 14-19 days.
We go to Carmel when DH's old golf buddies go down to play golf.

every time i go someplace and fall in love, i pine to return.
then i second guess myself based on how many places i have not yet been.
it is an ongoing struggle - i haven't travelled a ton but i aspire to do it all!

Disney and family trips get repeated, but otherwise we try to do different things. My parents moved to Orlando area in 2005, so at least we get to combine WDW / Family, but we also try to visit Disneyland every few years. We have bucket lists to visit all the states and national parks. I'd do all the countries too, if I had my way and unlimited funds. However, for geopolitical reasons there will be several countries we won't travel to. So we can't do too much repeating, because there are so many places to go!
I have always had wanderlust, and get unsettled when we don't have trips planned. So pandemic was hard! Although, even then we road tripped to the in-laws, and as soon as we were vaxxed, I was on the plane again to my Dad's. This year I've been to my Dad's, Washington DC, and we're going to Paris in December. Next year, we already have plans to go to Japan (originally scheduled for Oct 2020), and Kauai.

For our weekend aways, we tend to go to the same two places most of the time. When we go for a week long trip, it's a different place each time. Preferably a place with nature and hikes and kayaking. No theme parks. No tourist traps.

what we actually do? or what I would prefer to do? because it's not the same.
What we actually do is every few years we take a road trip - typically to visit family. Sometimes we've been able to spread out the driving and stop along the way at various places of interest, other times we drive way too long for a day or two.
What I would like to do? I like to fly or take the train, I don't really care for road trips. I like to do stuff on vacation - hike, go to museum/historic places, go to the zoo or botanical gardens - but also to wander around a place, sit and have a drink in an urban park or cafe, wander around a historical or scenic area -I don't want every minute go-go-go or overplanned but I'm not a sit on the beach/by the pool and relax sort.
There are places we tend to go back to (typically because of family) but I also like discovering new places.
The bigger issue is that DH and I aren't very compatible vacationers -he doesn't like to fly and likes to have a car at our destintion. He likes to visit Navy ship museums, military history museums, battlefields etc... and very slowly read every single word on every single sign. I don't mind visiting them but an hour or so is plenty for me to see and read everything and a whole day there is mindnumbing.

A mix. We usually go somewhere new each year and repeat one location. For many years we did a flying trip every other year and a road trip on the alternate years. Then a lot of things came up that kept me from making a commitment to fly on a certain date, then the pandemic and we just haven't returned to flying. DH had surgery earlier in the year so we've only made one road trip and it was somewhere we had been. We were meeting up with family.
Every year, except 2020, we have gone to Hilton Head Island - that's our preferred beach. We haven't been this year yet - I'm waiting on it to cool down! Typically we only go once a year because it is far enough that we spend most of the day getting there and a day coming back. We have been as often as 3 times in one year.

A mix. Our home from home, family favourite, multi generational trip, quick week away (or even a long weekend on our own sometimes) over the last 30+ years is an area of the Algarve, Portugal. We know it very well, we’re comfortable the instant we’re there etc. etc
Mixed in with that are city breaks (Milan, Venice etc) and some bigger trips to Canada, Singapore, Malta, St Vincent/Grenadines.
There’s a lot of appeal to both. Seeing other countries broadens our horizons and is always wonderful and exciting and trips to somewhere very familiar and reliable are also very appealing 😊

We go to my parents' home as our "family vacation". My kids all have very different ideas of fun; I hate to plan a Big Trip that costs a lot and has at least one person complaining the whole time...
I love to travel abroad and stay put long enough to have a sense of the place.
DH and I like to do a short getaway once a year; we both like a hotel/condo that has a lovely balcony from which to sip coffee or wine and look at the ocean. When we find the perfect place, we'll return to it year after year.

Somewhere different every trip. There's too much to see in the world to waste time on repeat visits! I prefer trips to places that have things to do such as museums and historical sights. Good walkability is a plus. Most trips are flying. Now ff it is a road trip in the US, DH will drive and pick me up at the airport of our destination.

I use to go to different places each time but now that my kids are so far away, I often end up visiting them and calling it a vacation. They live in fantastic places where mountains, ocean, rivers, ski hills are in abundance so there is plenty to do outside, which is my preference for a vacation. I am not big on museums and galleries, although when I lived in London, I visited the National Gallery at least monthly.
I like doing road trips and just winging it which works great in some places but not so much in others, such as the northern parts of our provinces. Europe was great for my style of travel - drive until it was time to eat or sleep and just plug in restaurant or hotel in the Tom-Tom and take what came up.
Dh isn't quite as free-wheeling - he prefers to have things all planned out before we head out the door. He loves river cruises and I must admit, they are growing on me - it is nice to unpack once and yet still see different places everyday.
Our next vacation is a train trip through Switzerland - apparently there is a decent on-off train ticket. We had this trip planned in 2020 so I am just waiting for dh to decide when to go - he has been leery about flying but I have flown a few times now with no trouble so I think he will be good for next year.

I like to visit some place new every time EXCEPT we used to go camping on our anniversary every year at Devil's Lake WI and later, Assateague Island MD. Now we have taken to visiting Florida every year for our January bdays, though we choose a different part each time.

We do various assorted things - we've gone back to some places we like, but also like going to new places. The only hard and fast rule is vacation is VACATION. For everyone. It's not "mom does everything she does at home but closer to the beach."

We do a lot of repeat trips when we are doing a 3-5 day vacation. We fly to Cozumel or Belize one or two times per year. We also like to go to NYC once or twice a year. The rest of the time, we try to visit someplace new, or if it's not a new destination, to stay in a different area from the time before.

It's not "mom does everything she does at home but closer to the beach." and that would be why we don't go camping or to the beach on 'vacation'

We go to the same beach house every year, because it's cheap or free (through work). It's also close - a 1 hour 45 min drive from home.
Due to the fact that we sent our kids to a private school, we never had the money to travel overseas. DSO and I have only gone overseas twice. Vietnam in 2017, and Thailand / Singapore just this month. Even though I would love to go back to Hoi An / central Vietnam again, we want to do the north and south as well. I would much prefer to go to a new place every year.
I have one friend who goes to Bali every year. I have another friend who goes to Bali FOUR TIMES every year. The same thing, over and over and over and over..... I do not understand that at all.

a mix.. we went to maui last year and are repeating staying in the same place this year. in nov. we have a condo at a ski resort.. and we like spending time there winter and summer. but then we don't repeat much. we take cruises.. we are going to papua new guinea this winter..and then to mexico to see full eclipse of the sun, to dc to visit a kid, and then the whole family to new zealand for my daughter's graduation from college.
I want to go to europe more.. we haven't really seen that much of it.. visit relatives, see the sights..

Honestly, it just depends. I love the water, so a beach or a lake is where I want to go.
I'd go back to Puerto Rico in a second

We were really only repeat visitors when we had a vacation house in Maine. I didn’t like being tied to the same place every year. Oh I guess we repeat visit in Colombia now, but that’s because DH’s company does business there. I go with him once a year or so and we make it a working vacation.
For style, we like to have a mix of planned excursions and free days to explore. Now we always have to plan around DH’s schedule because when you own your own business, there is never a day off. We’re en route to Australia right now and he’s busy figuring out what time his Teams meetings will be Australia time. Mostly like 3 am, it seems, so I’m not sure how that’s going to affect our fun. We will see! Fortunately I’m comfortable with going out and doing stuff on my own as well.
No matter where we go, we stay away from all inclusives, cruises, etc. Really prefer a local experience.

We are road trippers for sure. I remember once, when my (undiagnosed) bipolar issues were really coming into play we went to a concert with friends locally (*NSYNC) and had an absolute blast. He looked at me and told me to pick anywhere else on the tour and we’d go see them again, because I hadn’t smiled like that in a long time. I chose Florida because we could attend 2 concerts, and I asked about flying but he wanted to drive because we could talk and listen to music together and we always had such a fun time traveling to see our families.
Since then we almost always drive and our vacations typically are planned based on a running/biking/triathlon event and we base a lot of those decisions on where we want to go. They’re normally shorter trips. Other trips are based on concerts, theater, and sporting events we want to attend. We like great restaurants (from fine dining and mom and pop places), decent to nice hotels, museums and tours. Once the race is chosen we start researching what else is going on in the area and where to eat! Planners for sure, but have learned to leave time to relax.
At least once a year we meet up with a lot of his family and go camping. I guess they could be considered vacations, but definitely not very relaxing a lot of the time! And we travel to see family a lot, we usually stay with his parents.
If we could afford to we’d love to travel more extensively and do a combination of flying and long road trips. Everywhere. We definitely like to go back to favorite spots, there is so much we don’t get to do on our first visit, new places pop up, and we like to revisit favorites.
eta: Sun is bad, we prefer cooler climates, even honeymooned on Tahoe to go skiing. Unfortunately, not a lot of his race events are in the winter.

In fairness, That's one of those DH will go by himself or with his dad (also a veteran and interested in the museum) I'll stay home. The only hard and fast rule is vacation is VACATION. For everyone. It's not "mom does everything she does at home but closer to the beach." Bingo. This is my one hard and fast rule for travel and one of the reasons I don't want to just "get a condo" when we plan something. As a kid it was hours in the car to visit family for 2-3 days then home. A couple of trips to the southwest, which was my parents favorite area of the country. We had a long stretch of time when dad had medical bills that meant every spare penny went to the hospital. DH grew up as an air force brat, so they lived all over Europe and the US moving every 3-4 years. So while they didn't "vacation" often they did see more of the world than I ever will. His parents are repeat area beach vacationers. They love to return to the same beach, as well as cruise to warm destinations where they sit on the beach. I'm more of a lets go explore type of vacationer, I'm not a good traveler so If I'm going to subject myself to a flight or hours in the car I want to SEE where we are.

We are repeaters, with somewhere else on occasion. But we didn't travel much until ten years ago (NO money). We have done Hilton Head a bunch, Disney World four times, Mexico (all inclusive) twice and Las Vegas (many times). Italy once.
We're probably done with Disney now (or at least for a while) and twice to the all inclusive was one too many times for us. We LOVE Las Vegas and will be back, same with Hilton Head (just less often now). We hope to go back to Italy and other places overseas.

In an ideal world where I have lots of money , I would love to take a short vacation or long weekend to one or two of the same places every year + take an international vacation every other year. When the kids were adults and had their own partners and/or children, I'd love to do family vacations regularly. In my actual world, my fiance & I have a couple of "our" cities within a few hours' drive where we spend a long weekend every so often. My parents have paid for the kids & me (and now my fiance) to go to FL on Fall Break a couple times. We took the kids on vacation last summer and are planning on traveling out next summer to where my fiance went every summer with his family. He & I are going on a mini-moon this fall after our wedding and anticipate traveling internationally for our official honeymoon late next year. I prefer vacations (especially international and/or more expensive ones) where we do and learn vs. relax. I don't have to plan every minute of every day but I generally do lots of research ahead of time and have an idea of some restaurants where we'd want to eat and some place to go or something to do every day of the trip. My bucket list is very, very, very long, and I've only been in the position to afford vacations the last couple years so I have a lot of catching up to do!
