Do you write a check, put cash in a card, gift card, venmo etc?
I haven't been to a wedding in a few years now and don't have a checkbook. I have one check I have in my wallet for whatever emergency I would need a check for. What that is I don't know lol. The last time I needed one to pay our taxes I went to the bank to get one. And I'll do it again I guess if needed. But then I thought, maybe young couples would prefer it to be sent electronically or gift cards?
What do you do in these situations?

That’s a great question.
Most of the people I know getting married these days tend to have something set up to give a monetary gift via a link. For example, friends in their fifties got married and on their page, had a link to “gift” them money to upgrade their boat, as they like to use it when they entertain friends and family.
A lot of the younger couples have a honeymoon fund they are asking for gifts to apply towards.
When we participate in said group gifts, I just print off the fancy little confirmation on nice paper and include it in a card (like one would do a gc, check or cash.)
I would never gift cash because there have been too many “missing” gifts over the years that I’ve heard about. Be it ones that were maybe taken, but also ones that were never gifted in the first place, much like the “lost in the mail” type.

I give a gift card (one I’ve bought online). I have some bias though as I sell gift cards online. :-)

Two years ago we gifted DGS and wife by Venmo. But you’re probably not asking about family. So, yes, I would check their gift registry for a method to gift them.

I used to give cash but went back to checks. Unfortunately a family had many wedding cards missing at their reception

If I was going to the wedding I would give cash. There is usually some sort of box or receptacle for people to leave cards in. If I was sending the card in the mail I would use a check. I have never used an electronic pay system and I would probably not use a gift card, although I have sent gifts cards for other occasions. But for a wedding cash would be my first choice.

I do whatever their website tells me to do haha. Typically, it's venmo.

I give a check. There have been a few times when the only way I knew they got the gift was the endorsement on the back when they cashed it. Thank you notes seem to be a rarity lately.

This is what I do as well. I had been choosing a gift from the registry, sending it directly to the recipient. I don't have to have a Thank You but I would like to know the gift was received.

I will add that I haven’t been to a wedding of someone who I am not close to or close family to in a long time so that may be a reflection of my choice of cash or check if being mailed. I would know if they didn’t get my gift or card even without the written thank you. But if there was a link for electronic payment I would definitely do that…if I thought to look for it. Hahaha.

Lately I've been ordering a gift off the couple's registry and sending it straight to the address they have listed, etc. If I'm giving money I typically give cash.

I put cash in a card. There's usually a box, basket, birdcage, etc... on a gift table that holds the cards.

I like to shop for them off of their registry. If it is a close family member, I will also give money. Venmo or cash.

I got married last fall. We did not do a link on our registry for a honeymoon fund or anything like that. I’d say our monetary gifts were about 70% check, 30% cash.

I give cash, because then the newlyweds can use it immediately if they want to.

I admit I am old school and will be writing a check for the upcoming wedding I will be attending. The couple does have some sore of honeymoon registry for cash on their website though.

I would send a Visa gift card with a receipt.

I write a check, so I can see it cashed. I have also heard stories of cards going missing at receptions, so I wouldn't give cash for that reason. Someone on Reddit described gift cards as "Like cash, but worse because you can only spend it at this one store!"

We give a check. That way we know they’ve cashed and can be expecting our thank you note! LOL ;-)

If they have some type of secure payment setup, then I’m happy to use that. At least I can tell they received the money. I have found that the younger generations do not send any type of acknowledgment, so direct payment works best.
