Kirkland.. haven't changed in 20 years. Charmin and those nice extra soft ones are bad for my toilet.. energy saving water kind. Plus I think they are way too expensive. Kirkland is good, but not cheap see through TP. So far us it's the perfect one for toilets and bottom areas.

librarylady I’m old enough to remember when TP used to come in pretty pastel colors! Then doctors and environmentalists decided that wasn’t such a good idea (for many valid reasons). Fun story: During that Era, sisters and I went to Europe. I took along some TP as I had read the TP might be rough. We were staying in one place 3 days. I took their TP off the roller and put on Aurora with color and a decorative border. When we came back from our day of tourism, 90% of the roll had been removed. That maid took some home.

We use Cloud Paper bamboo toilet paper (mail order). Also a pandemic decision that we’ve kept up because we like it.

Charmin in the red pkg is what we like.
We used to use Northern and then it got super "linty". Same with Sams and Kirkland brands.
When we decided to change, we bought small pkgs of Charmin Red, Charmin Blue, and Cottonelle and compared.

I used to be a Charmin snob but several years ago I switched to Sam's Members Mark Ultra Premium. Great stuff, and now I am a Sam's snob.

I took it as someone was always having to unplug a toilet (because it was plugged up from using the charmin or northern) Yes, that is what I meant. The paper would plug the toilet, so someone was always having to unplug it. I’ve never heard anyone say “plug” a toilet. I have only heard “clog.” You clog a toilet (it won’t flush) and someone has to unclog (get it to flush) it with a plunger.

Charmin! I never saw the joy in squeezing it, but I sorta miss Mr. Whipple.

Charmin! I never saw the joy in squeezing it, but I sorta miss Mr. Whipple. Lordy, how I HATE, HATE, HATE those commercials! (I guess I should say hated as I don't think the commercials run are around any more).
I also hate the ones with a bear and the Charmin. HATE it!

Cottonelle, the kind with the ridge lines in it. I don’t have to use near as much as I do with some other brands. And can I just say I HATE🤬🤬🤬 the rolls that are less wide than they have always been? The first time I bought a big package like that I was so angry that I almost returned it. You don’t notice the width unless you have something to compare it to. Now that I know they are doing that, I watch carefully and refuse to buy it.

I quit eating beef, I recycle everything that my trash company accepts, I buy bulk to cut down on packaging. I’m going to be looking into other products that I can order to stop all the glass and plastic that I get.

I’ve used Seventh Generation TP for probably 5-6 years. I prefer it to the overly soft and fluffy ones.

I had forgotten about pastel toilet paper!! When I was little I asked my mom to buy it a couple of times, but she never would. She would only buy white.

Scott 1 ply user here as well - have been on a well/septic system for the past 20 years and that is all that we have ever used. Same. The last thing I need is toilet plumbing issues, again. The Scott 1 ply does not bother me at all. When I have guests, I will put out the *good* tp. 😊

We used to use Pyrex years ago then they started downsizing the rolls. We have been using Kirkland and they downsized the roll from 425 sheets to 380 sheets per roll and claim they made them softer.

We use Cashmere here - it is soft and doesn't bother our septic tank. My biggest beef with toilet paper (and paper towels) is trying to do the math to decide if 24 big rolls is a better deal than 18 mega rolls or 12 ginormous rolls. And from the number of people standing in the tp aisle with confused looks on their faces, I am definitely not the only one dealing with this dilemma.

I use Angel Soft. Charmin kept plugging up the toilet lines. I wonder if the word is a regional thing. I've never heard of it referred to as plugging. We always said "clogged" and we had to "plunge" the toilet.

I choose Kirkland/Sam’s. We used Kirkland for years then switched to Sam’s. I like it as it’s less linty. We inherited a lot of Tp and some cottenel and really like it but buying Sam’s brand is easier.

My dad was a TP hoarder and would only use MD tissue back in the day. (I don't even think they make it now).
We would have a rainbow of colors stacked up between the toilets and the wall because I'm sure he bought it every time he went to the store.
I'm single and usually just buy an 8-pack of the blue Charmin for both of my bathrooms and it lasts me a while.

I once made me a spreadsheet calculating the costs. I usually buy TP from Walmart and on their site, they usally have the cost per unit in their product descriptions.

we use charmin in the red packet, and it seems fine. When I was a kid growing up, my parents used Scott? Scotch? It was pretty thing and rough, but they had a septic tank and was told to use that... At one time some of the TP would not break up and the use in septic tanks was not recommended for those brands. Most mfg. changed so that is no longer true. How to test and know if your TP will be safe in a septic system: Put about 5 squares in a quart jar. Put in about a cup of water. Shake well. If the TP breaks up--good to go. If the TP does not break apart, it will probably clog up your system. --Back in the day, Charmin had a tiny bit of lotion in the paper to make it softer and smoother. I have no idea if that is still true. We’re a Charmin Strong family exclusively and we also have a septic system. The only time we have issues is when someone really overdoes it with the TP. I know for a fact that the stuff readily breaks down because once when DD was little she had an AFR* in the tub when she was taking a bath. In my horror, I grabbed a wad of TP from the roll and tried in vain to scoop the poop out of the tub with it and it literally disintegrated in my hand within seconds. 😳😬😱 I had to resort to scooping it out with a plastic cup that she would play with to get it out, and then I threw that cup straight in the trash!
*If you are ever at a water park and you hear over the intercom that there has been an AFR, know that they are referring to Accidental Fecal Release and that’s why they’re closing the pool or slide! The bigger issue with clogs is from people flushing wet wipes. Those don’t disintegrate easily. Even though some brands SAY they are flushable, they really are not. People who flush them are only asking for trouble at some point down the line. ETA: We tried one pack of the Kirkland TP and it was SO linty. I mean, literal chunks of lint would fall out of the pack when you went to put a new roll on the holder. Even DH complained about it so when that pack was gone we never bought it again. Normally I like the Kirkland branded private label stuff so I was really surprised that we hated it so much. I don’t like Charmin Soft for the same reason. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kirkland is actually Charmin Soft.
