Sheesh. My area of Northern Virginia is under an "enhanced" weather warning. Never heard that one before but they're predicting a "severe wind event". Along with DC, farther west in Virginia, and parts of Maryland. Wow, we just had a severe wind event, i.e., a huge storm, that caused people to be without power for days, many trees came down, and we're still cleaning up after that. And when it comes right down to it we don't really have a lot of bad weather events here, not like other parts of the country. How do you all who live in tornado areas deal with it during tornado season? I'd worry every time the sky got dark.

Not to mention there's a flash flood watch for the entire area too. While we didn't lose power (except for a few minutes' blip) in last week's storm with the severe wind event, there were a LOT of branches down. Hope it turns out to be minor this time, monklady123 and that you don't lose power. In my 20s I briefly lived in Kansas and there were tornado watches practically every day when I first moved there in early June - I hated it so much! Definitely wanted to "go home" LOL - never have I identified so much with a common Kansas tourist-y t-shirt: "Dear Auntie Em, Hate you. Hate Kansas. Took the dog. Love, Dorothy"

When are we expecting this weather? We got alerts today but it was a wind warning for boats, said that wind gust could capsize boats. I've not seen that one before on a widescale alert. Looks like tomorrow night is going to wild. I've got meds for me and the dogs ready to go. Yuck.

Ugh. I was just outside to take my trash out and I could hear chainsaws and tree companies from several locations just around me. We're not done cleaning up from that last storm! Please no more for awhile.

we have a tornado warning thru 9pm tonight.... Is it a warning or a watch? Warning for 6ish hours seems... long? At least to me in my experience? Either way, everyone stay safe.

we have a tornado warning thru 9pm tonight.... We've got a tornado watch until 9 pm tonight. Which is worse-warning or watch? I guess I could Google it. Man, I am tired of all of these storms. It seems like every night we have a thunderstorm. They tend to trigger my migraines with the atmospheric pressure changes. This past week I've been pretty lucky.. Last one I had was July 25th. I probably just jinxed it now by saying that. In the storm last week we had a branch come down from the neighbor's tree and crack a window pane in my bedroom. Could have been a lot worse. I think it's because of climate change. PS A tornado watch is issued when the conditions indicate an increased risk for severe weather that is capable of producing a tornado. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. A warning means you should take shelter immediately. It seems incredibly stupid that I didn't know the difference, but tornados are a rare thing here in MD. as are earthquakes. Again, I blame climate change.

I always had a hard time remembering which is worse, a watch or a warning. Then I told myself that if I was walking through a deserted town during the zombie apocalypse I would tell myself "watch out for zombies".... But then if I heard noises or saw them I'd say "warning! There they are!" lol. That's helped me keep it straight.

A warning means they have assembled and you have a taco to eat.

I had to drive thru it. My mother, who lives in Rockville MD, had a doctor’s appointment in Baltimore this afternoon. We didn’t get out of the appointment until 4:15 and hit the storm while driving her home. It was awful. My sister, who is visiting from Israel, had never seen anything like it. It took twice as long to get mom home and then for us to return to NoVA.

Our daughter is in Falls Church and they Canceled all the late afternoon appointments and went home from work early today. She said that government workers were also being sent home early. She works in Maryland, so I’m not sure if that’s Virginia or Maryland but she got to come home early today. her apartment complex told them to clear their balconies of anything on them because they’re expecting 80 mile an hour winds. yikes. Stay safe, everyone

I was in Arlington over the weekend and the cemetary had been closed for storm repair. DS is stationed at Ft. Myer (at the cemetary) and they were told to go back to barradcks at 3 pm. He said the storms were intense.

From what I remember watching the 3/31 tornado coverage in Little Rock: Watch-- conditions could produce tornado Warning--- indictions (like radar indicator) that a tornado has formed Emergency -- confirmed tornado on the ground.
