Today as I approached my village I passed a van parked up in a lay by with the back doors opened. Hmm, better not be dumping rubbish but it was a chap about to release his racing pigeons. This is an activity that would be mostly associated with the North of England, not where I live, so, for me at least, it's unusual to see it.
Anyone else seen anything unusual lately?

I was driving by a business and saw a crow frantically flapping its wings but going nowhere. I knew I had to investigate. So I did a u-ey and drove to the area I saw the flapping. There was a slatted fence around a dumpster and a crow had gotten its head slid down between the slats and and was caught. He had nothing for his feet to push up and he was just hanging there and flapping. I had no gloves but got one of my shopping bags and scooped up under him pushing his head up until he reached the top of the fence and then he flew away. Didn't even stop to say "Thanks!". Racing pigeons would be cool to see! Mary K

Up close, those crow claws are HUGE!

I was at the store and waiting for the self checkout line (it was long) and a grown man, age 50-55 or so, was sitting on the ground leaning against his basket. A woman asked if he was okay and he said ‘just waiting’. Idk it was just unusual to see. Maybe he has an invisible disability just never saw it before.

While driving into work, I saw a large pickup truck do a multi-roll and land on its roof. Luckily, the people in the truck (man, woman and two kids) were okay. Turns out, the driver of the truck was cut off by one of two cars that were playing chase on the freeway. One driver ended up being arrested for vehicular assault. I see WAY too many people goofing around on the freeway these days, especially in heavy traffic. They drive like they are in a video game.

I was in the outdoor area of a restaurant, and there was a family sitting at a table with a cat on a leash.

DD and I were driving, about to pass a shopping plaza that has a Dunkin’ on the end, close to the road. It was raining, and we saw something in the road ahead so stopped. It was a duck, waddling across the road, to meet a CHICKEN that was on the side of the road right in front of Dunks. Maybe they had a coffee date? We just looked at each other like “did we just see that?” 🤣🤣🤣

Well this week alone, I saw a man passed out in the bike lane and another guy peeing on one of those scrolling advertisement screens near a bus stop.
For context, I am currently staying with my sister near the heart of downtown, so definitely very urban and a bit gritty. On top of that, I leave her house every morning around 3:15 AM to go to the gym, so I definitely am seeing people who are not usually out and about in the daytime

So my office is on the 2nd floor in downtown Denver. I have windows ceiling to floor so I have a view of the street. Daily I get a fair share of weirdness.. - homeless people doing whatever they do... we have the screamer that walks by daily.. he likes to just scream and yell out the F word. - a guy in an electric wheelchair daily flying by with the flag waving behind me.. not really 'that' weird. - our windows on the 1st floor have that covering over it so people can't see in, but they use it for a mirror.. So the guy below me with the street view gets to see all the people putting their makeup on, or adjusting themselves (boobs/pants/whatever).. it's pretty hilarious. - people line up for various concerts because there is a small concert venue next door.. usually something on the weird side. There are always very interesting looking people standing along side the building - then the tour groups that go by on the Segway's.. lol ... usually dad in Dockers, mom and kid following behind. That's all in a day..

keithurbanlovinpea ~ I live very close to the downtown in my city. Also way down the street is a homeless shelter. My condo is on the corner of a main road so access to the highway is only a few minutes away. I see many things from my 12th floor window ~ a homeless man arguing with a big industrial garbage can and most of the time the can loses. I then call the city about the mess and they send out someone to clean this up. There is also a *concert venue* across the street, down the road a bit. See some very interesting people wearing unusual clothing. Sometimes there is a flea market there and they sell some weird stuff. I can see the cops in their cars having conversations behind the variety store. They must think that no one can see them, but I do. There was a van that had colourful magnets all over the van, very colourful magnets like the souvenir type.

So I did a u-ey and drove to the area I saw the flapping. The unusual thing I've seen today is an American using the word "u-ey". I thought for sure that this was an Aussie slang term! (Except we say "I chucked a u-ey.")

In Saturday, I went to Ulta and held the door open for a teenage girl. She had a backpack on, and as she walked by me, I saw it was one of those clear pet holders. Inside was a pigeon. Today, I walked by a loud homeless guy holding a large rock, yelling loudly to no one. By the time I saw the rock, it was too late to turn back (I was already in rock throwing range). I just winced as I walked by and hoped he didn’t throw it. He didn’t! Yay.

On Saturday we watched the river we live on here in Juneau change shape as.we.watched. The view we've had for more than 9 years now is completely changed as has the river itself. We couldn't see a single house from our deck before, just river and trees. Now we can see five, two of which are overhanging the river and one that's likely to be if they can't address their bank very soon.
We helped our next door neighbors clear their patio and then their house in fear that it might go in. The house past them did go in. We're very, very fortunate that our bank held because of where we are on the river's bend.
Google Mendenhall River flood for some mind-boggling video. Thankfully there was no loss of life and most of the houses might be salvageable.
We all know, rationally, what moving water can do, but seeing it and the aftermath... still shaking a bit.

I had seen that video but had no idea a pea would be so close to it. How frightening for all concerned. The power of water is mind blowing. I'm glad everyone is okay but I know that it will take time to recover from the whole experience. Best wishes to your community.
