My daughter will be in an apartment this year for college and the closest grocery store is Lidl. I have never been to one before. I you have shopped there, do you like it? Any recommendations of favorite foods you buy there? We are trying to make a grocery list and meal plans in advance so she is set for school as Sept is very busy for her.

I’ve only been to the ones in Europe, and they are very similar to Aldi. Not a huge selection, but very good prices.

I have shopped in Lidl in the UK and I assume they're similar. They're definitely no frills and as well as in the way they display things it also means less choice/variety quite often. I found you have to be prepared to buy things you won't like while you're sussing out what you'll buy again and what you won't. For example some crackers are just tasteless imo so I had a packet I wasn't going to eat but it felt wasteful throwing them away. Also I found I often couldn't get everything on my list (or not the specifics that I wanted) so that many a trip to another supermarket which irked me. My DD is a convert, I'm not

Lidl is a German discount store, like Aldi. They are big, 12,000 stores across Europe and the US. Over 900 here in the UK.
We only pick up bits and bobs there on a few occasions as I do the main shop at another supermarket but the bakery is close to the entrance and has nice Danish pastries.

I worked in a Lidl in the UK for nearly 3 years. The quality has improved hugely, but the range is not as extensive as other supermarkets. The prices are excellent. In the UK it is common for Lidls to share car parks with more luxury places like Waitrose. People buy their basics at Lidl then what they can't get there, they go next door and spend probably the same amount on the final half dozen items. It seems to work very well.
Tips: the bakery is very good, but go early for the freshest stuff and late for the bargains. The "middle of Lidl" aisles change twice a week on Wednesdays and weekends. Download the app and see what the food/alcohol theme of the week is: we have Greek, Spanish, Polish, Italian etc. They also have craft items; fat quarters, coloured drawing paper/card stock, markers, yarn, craft kits. Each week will have several themes for the non-food items as well, such as pets, back to school, gardening, DIY, tools, cars, babies, kids, cleaning, laundry, and of course the seasonal stuff. I suppose it's similar if not the same in the US.

I never did all of my shopping there just some things. Their bakery is great but it wouldn't be a main store ever for me.

Lidl is great for some things, similar to Aldi, but isn’t a huge grocery store like Safeway/Krogers/Publix/whatever you/she are used to.

She'll save a lot on things like produce, meat, dairy products, eggs, bread, paper towels/TP. They have a great selection of charcuterie-style meats and cheeses and specialty snack items if she wants to be fancy.
There aren't many name brand items (although the stores near me have been getting more recently), so it'll be an adventure for her to try the store brands and figure out which ones she likes. I can get a lot of my groceries purchased there and then finish the list at a regular grocery store.

maryland, my DD shops at the Lidl in CP all the time! She likes it a lot and finds the selection really good! She likes the ravioli a lot. I am not sure what else she gets there, but if your DD wants, have her text or message Becca thru IG!

Lidl is ok, it’s similar to an Aldi.
There isn’t a lidl near me but when I’m near one I stock up in their spray shower cleaner. It’s the only one that doesn’t give me a coughing fit when I use it so it’s the only shower cleaner I use. Spray - squeegee - rinse - done. Bathroom smells nice for hours.
Yes, it still has some sort of chemical in it but it’s the only thing that doesn’t send me into a coughing fit.

I've been to the one in Atlanta. The bakery was fantastic, first thing I thought of when I saw Lidl was the soft pretzels! the store itself was very similar to Aldi. One choice for lots of products, not a lot of frills etc. I love Aldi, but I still have to go to Hy Vee to get certain things (we're out of cocktail sauce at the moment. For the life of me I can't find it at Aldi and keep forgetting when I'm at Hy Vee).
If you're meal planning for the whole month then I'd recommend going to Sams or Costco and getting proteins in bulk. Then make your meal list from there. I always have Chicken and some pork in the freezer and I know others will freeze ground beef, I just don't care for it after it's been frozen. Or get her staples set up and that way she needs to only shop proteins and fresh once a week.
