Hey everyone! Anyone else getting close to sending your child off to college?
My oldest is moving in to Oklahoma State on Wednesday. He worked his last day today and will be home tomorrow working on getting everything ready to go. He’s so excited, but I can’t believe it’s here. I’m very excited to see what fun things he has in store for him. College was the best 4 years of mine and DH’s life. I am definitely going to be sad to lose my side kick. Out of my 2 boys my oldest is the one always up to go places and shop with me.
Anyone else about to send kids off?

My daughter moves in to college next weekend. We have piles of stuff all over my living room, nothing is organized yet, and I don’t know how we will fit it all in the mini van! I work tomorrow and Tuesday then have the rest of the week off to help her get ready. I am super excited for her, and scared, and sad…all the emotions.

We moved our oldest in last weekend. He's playing football and had to move in 2 weeks early. It was sad to loss those 2 weeks, but also nice to not have to move in at the same time as everyone else. It was also nice when it came time to say our goodbyes because the players were going from the parent meeting to the bowling alley for a team activity so we had to say our goodbyes quickly. Normally I might be mad at that, but I was going to cry either way so in the end I appreciated the short goodbye.
We're planning a trip back out to see him at some point. It's going to be hard not getting to watch all of the games in person, but he's 9 hours away (and some of the games are 12-13 hours away). Right now it feels like he's just had a busy week of sports, friend & work when in reality he is living his own life 9 hours away (it wasn't unusual to have days when we'd only see him for 30 minutes or so before we'd go to bed).
I wasn't sure I'd survive the packing--he put it off until the last minute!

Woot! Such a big step in growing up. Enjoy the process as much as you can. Lots of emotions for everyone. My youngest was my sidekick. It was really hard.

My ds leaves on Tuesday for his final year at Boise State. Can't say the leaving has gotten any easier. It is however awesome watching them start their launch.

My youngest is a rising junior. She attends school in our city but lives on campus because her schedule is so intense, it's just easier for her to be right there.
Me: Do you need help moving in this week?
Her: Love and light, mom, but you'll just be in the way.
Haha. Love to see that independence from my baby and not sorry to miss out on moving anything in this heat.

I am done with all that, but I know how exciting it all is, enjoy! The four years will fly by.

Right now it feels like he's just had a busy week of sports, friend & work when in reality he is living his own life 9 hours away Most kids here go to uni locally, and live with their parents while they're at uni. But I can relate to all the feelings, as my daughter bought her own home late last year. Like huskermom98 mentioned, at first it just seemed like she was either working late, or staying at her boyfriend's house, so I didn't feel her absence all that much. Luckily her house is only 7 kilometres from my house, so I still see her often. I don't know how I'd cope with her being 9 hours away! Hugs to all of you college mums!

She leaves on Thursday. We did the big Target trip last night after she got off work. She is supposed to pack the next few nights after work. Her last day of work is Tuesday so we will have all Wednesday to finish last minute shopping and packing. At least that’s the plan!

My oldest had his last day of work yesterday and he’s going camping with his friends for the rest of the week. He’ll start the long drive across the country next Monday. DH and I will fly out to help him move in to his new apartment on Thursday and all of his things are in storage. It’s definitely less stressful this year because he already has almost everything. Which reminds me that I need to get shower curtain rings here, they were impossible to find last year.
DD is going back 3 weeks early but she’s still here until the beginning of September. We left almost everything in storage for her too so no piles here for her either!

My second daughter is off to university in a few weeks. We decided to pack pretty light to start with — essentials pretty much — and after she’s settled in I’ll go up in mid-September and go shopping for other conveniences and comforts. Her little sisters were very excited to buy and give her a desk lamp! Lol. They were pretty sure a good desk lamp was important for school.

We moved our Freshman in last Wednesday, about 3 hours away! We kept the goodbye’s short and sweet and were honestly very tired. It was a long day. I’ve kept texting and calling to a minimum so as not to pressure her and just let her enjoy events happening before school starts. AND SHE CALLED ME LAST NIGHT….WOOOHOOOOO!!! I was so happy to hear from her!!! She’s doing great and doing her best to get involved and put herself out there to meet people. She’s an introvert, so I couldn’t ask for more. I’m thrilled for her but my heart has been so sad with not seeing her every day.

My youngest headed back to college this past weekend to start his senior year. I have no idea how those years flew by so fast. It honestly feels like yesterday when I was dropping our oldest off at college.

My oldest is moving out Sept 1 for college. (Her twin brother moved out last year). I will miss her singing around the house, her fresh baked bread, and her humour...what I wont miss is her messy room, and her 300 pairs of shoes always in the front entry LOL She is only going to be about an hour away so we will see her often, which helps. Then we will only have one left at the house, which is so weird.

Yep, my daughter is going back to Seattle University for her sophomore year...she's DRIVING from Chicago to Seattle which makes this mom a bit nervous!
I'm already crying every time I think about her leaving - it's been great having her home. Of course, she's in Hawaii right now (Honolulu not Maui) - when you go to school in Seattle you're going to meet friends who are from Hawaii and can give you a free place to stay! (She also goes to school with Eddie Vedder's daughter)

GF was telling me that she loves when her college friends come to visit! GF didn't get to go home for Thanksgiving last year and spent the week with her friends family and then GF was able to return the favor and her friend went to HI she got to stay with her.

This is a great plan! If you are close enough that you can go visit after the initial whoop-de-doo has settled down, and then get the fun stuff, that is the best! I have found that about half the stuff that is a 'must have' for dorms, ends up just being in the way. It's hard when they are freshmen and excited about things though. The one essential that my kids loved was an USB extension cord. This made it easy to plug in phones and whatever else needed charging and not be tied right close to the wall. I got 6' extensions and 6' long multi end cords (so they could charge more than one device at a time). I give those as gifts now too - hopefully it isn't an outdated thing now!

My oldest just graduated from college, but my younger 2 are still in - the middle kid will be a 4th year, but stayed during the summer (15 minutes from beach - tough life!) because he had summer research job and took classes. It’s good, since we pay his $1600 rent year-round!
My youngest was on school in North Carolina (we are in the Bay Area) - he just made last minute decision to come back here and transfer schools. Very excited to have him back in town…

We have 2 more weeks with them! Going on vacation with them next week and they're off to their junior and senior years. Man it flies!!! I am going out with my daughter as she's moving into an apartment and will need some more items. I miss them like crazy when they're gone, but they're having a great time!

My DD left 8/1 for grad school in the Midwest. Im going to miss her. She has orientation this week, starts next week.
It’s weirder than undergrad because I don’t know if she needs anything or what. I know she’s a grown adult I just hope she reaches out if she has a problem because I’m worrying about stuff already and it’s probably all fine. ( yes we both told her to let us know if there are issues, yes she is highly capable, but I still worry. )

My youngest will be a senior this year He has been living in a house so no moving him. I am excited for the school year because he plays in the marching band, and I love going to the games and watching. He will have to do an extra semester to complete his degree next year.

We leave 3 weeks from today to drive our one and only dd down to start her freshman year. We are in NJ and she’s going all the way to Georgia! She’s so excited, but I know I’m going to cry my eyes out all the way home.

You'll tear up when it is time to leave, but you will be ok and so will she.
