Hi everyone! As you may have seen from my other thread, I bought a brand new black Jeep Wrangler yesterday! Read that thread for all of the details but I will say here that it has been so hard just sitting here and not going out driving! Driving alone is boring so I have to wait until my friends and family are available Here is my Jeep: Me, trying to get into it, is pretty funny because I am so short ... 5'1" ... I have to pull myself up by the "holy shit handles". I'm having running boards installed this week will make things so much easier! I do miss my BMW in a big way but I'll survive. My plans today are to drive around and get familiar with the bells and whistles! My girlfriend is coming over tonight for dinner and Netflix and a car ride! I have a pasta based skillet meal from M&M that I can whip up Happy happy birthday lucyg !!! What are your plans today everyone? What is on your menu tonight? I hope you have a great Saturday!

New cars are so much fun! Congrats! This morning, jeremysgirl and I came within an intersection of finally meeting! I saw her car, though! We were running late or I would have gone aisle to aisle in the store she was in, yelling her name. 😂😂

Had I known littlemama was in town I would have insisted on a meet up. I woke up early today and was the first person in the door at the indoor farmers market when it opened this morning. It is usually super busy on the weekends so it was great to be there first. I got enough groceries for this week so we are good there. Now I'm painting more floorboards. The guys are working like crazy to get this job done today. I'm doubtful they will do it. But they sure are trying. When I'm done painting, I plan to shower and then bake them cookies for all their hard work. I'm making the ultimate peanut butter cookies. Peanut butter with Reese's pieces. Then I will just spend the rest of my day putzing around the house doing crafts. leannec I like your new car! Fun! lucyg happy birthday. I read the thread this morning and it sounds like your DD is there to help you celebrate. I'm glad. Hopefully your DGS comes over too. Jeremy wants steak fajita nachos for dinner. So that's what we are having.

leannec - woohoo for a new car! We have ordered our next car - DH gets a company provided lease car, replaced every 3 years or so - but it won't be here until January as BMW builds them to order, right here in Munich. We are having a quiet weekend, after both having busy weeks. This morning was grocery shopping and then we watched the Sweden v Australia 3rd place playoff game for the Women's World Cup. Sadly not the result we hoped for, but a great show by our Matildas! This weekend is also the start of the German Football League (Bundesliga) season, so last night I watched our first game and today we have had the 'conference' feed on TV - it switches between the 5 games being played, and shows all goals from all games. It's what we normally have playing on weekends when Munich doesn't play on Saturday afternoon. I have also been doing a bit more research for the trip we are planning with DS. At this stage, he arrives Monday evening, and Tuesday lunch time all three of us will set off for Budapest. On Sunday, we will drive to either Bratislava or Vienna, have lunch, then DH will leave us and we will spend 3 days in Vienna and 3 days in Prague, before returning to Munich. Mt biggest priority right now is finding an apartment/AirBnB in each city that will work for us. Dinner tonight is fish and chips. Normally, this would be a Friday dinner, but DH wasn't home to eat last night and will probably be out with a work group next Friday, and we were able to get nice fish at the supermarket this morning.

Happy Birthday lucyg ! Glad your sisters and family will be celebrating you! Nice looking car, leannec ! Have fun with all the bells and whistles! They helped me get over trading in my 2004 Honda Pilot. I ended up making Jalapeno Popper Chicken last night so I'll do a roast with carrots, potatoes and onions.

lucyg: Happy day to you! leannec: Love your new Jeep! Well yesterday was a fall weather day and today summer is back. Mother Nature seems a bit confused lately. I did a bit of grocery shopping this morning and have no other plans for the day. Might be a sitting on the deck reading kinda day. Supper will be grilled steak. Also going to grill some veggies left over from a veggie platter from yesterday - broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and I’ll add some sweet potato.

Happy Birthday lucyg . May your year be filled w/healing, joy and fun. I hope that you're planning to celebrate for quite a while, because you deserve all the love. leannec , congratulations on your new jeep. Have fun w/it. FYI-dh has a truck and I'm a shortie. So, I sometimes have to get a running start. LOL. It works. Speaking of dh, he's still down for the count. I have bronchitis and I'm the healthy one. How scary is that? hehe. My only job today will consist of opening the door(fully masked) for the pizza delivery guy who will be asked to set the pizza on the porch ledge rather than face the cootie zone. Dh wanted pizza yesterday, but then decided to wait until today. DH and I both want to get back to enjoying his sabbatical.
karenlou, I hope you get some good rest today and that your next 3 nights of work are not punishing, but lighter instead.

Nice looking car, leannec ! Have fun with all the bells and whistles! They helped me get over trading in my 2004 Honda Pilot. Well, it's six of one half dozen of the other! The BMW did have a lot of cool options! The BMW had leather seats and sensors to tell you when you were getting to close to things .... I can install leather seats into the Jeep later though. The Jeep has a back up camera and a remote starter! The starter is a game changer for me! When I am parking outside at work (I am a teacher) it is sometimes 30 below zero Celsius ... to be able to start my car before I go out to it will be amazing! My main focus when buying a new vehicle was to stay away from "OLD LADY CARS!" I believe that, at 56, I am not an old lady and should be driving something cool! No one at the dealership tried to talk me into something else ... they were great! Ex thought I should buy a Toyota ... ummmmm, no.

leannec said: I believe that, at 56, I am not an old lady and should be driving something cool! In the book Midlife Bites by Jen Mann she says the Jeep Wrangler is officially the car of the female midlife crisis. I know a lot of women in their 40s and 50s who drive Jeeps. If you haven't read that book, you should because it's super funny. Especially if you are going through menopause. I laughed out loud at many points of the book.

We have found animal scat on our back fence. I'm wondering what wild animal is traversing the fence at night. I've seen a fox run across it at twilight so it could be a fox. I hope it's not a mountain lion hunting prey.

I think that the fact that: 1) I am now many years post break up and divorce and ex and I have a great relationship now 2) My dd's are grown and independent and do not live with me but we are still very close 3) I have an active adult social life that is on my terms and makes me happy 4) I watch out for my aging mother all the time because I am an only child 5) I spend a lot of time alone because that is how I recharge from all of the peopleing I do at my teaching job I am not in any kind of mid life crisis. This is the car I have wanted since I was 17 years old and now I have it!

leannec When I was in college, one of my roommates, bought a jeep and we all went four wheel driving. It was bright red until all the mud hit it and then it was completely brown. Was a lot of fun that day.

Thanks you all for the birthday wishes! If you didn’t know, I turned 70 today, an age I never really thought I’d live till (have not entirely taken great care of myself over the years and this is my second bout of cancer). So I’m a little hyped up. So tonight my entire extended family and some friends are having dinner at our favorite ice cream place in Oakland. I bought a huge chocolate layer cake from a favorite bakery, which I do every year and then cut it into slices and pack it up for people to take home. (Always some left for me, too, of course). So we have dessert at the ice cream place and then chocolate cake for breakfast. (Note, it was supposed to be tropical drinks and appetizers in the lounge at Trader Vic’s, but none of us were organized enough to get the room booked in time. It’s okay, this way the kids could come, too.) Tomorrow the womenfolk are driving over to Marin county for afternoon tea/more carbs/sugar. Monday we sleep. Like hibernating bears. Have a great Sunday, everyone! mwaah!

lucyg Happy Birthday! Sounds like a fun day. Welcome to the Jeep club leannec. I LOVE my Jeep. I have a Rubicon. Color is Hella Yella. DH and I just got back from a ride. We had the top back and we’re soaking up the evening. We took it off roading this summer. I was white knuckled the entire time. I kept reminding DH to not slide into any trees as it is my every day ride. Today was a lot busier than I thought it would be. We made a quick run down to Indy. Came back for a DGS soccer game. Brought some of the grandkids home with us so I haven’t gotten much done. Dinner was pizza.

lucyg, 70 is just a beginning. Sounds like you've having some birthday fun, not to mention some birthday treats, too. Enjoy it all. jeremysgirl, I'll have to check out that book. It sounds fun. So, dh finally got checked and he has walking pneumonia. I only have bronchitis, so I'm the healthy adult in the house. I would say that the next few days are booked. We'll be coughing and laughing at eachother in btwn naps.
