I'm seeing a few more masks early in the morning but if I shop later in the day they are rare. One thing that really gets me though is someone is wearing one but their nose is out I;m thinking why bother - I have seen this so often. It isn't mandated so they aren't protesting so I don't get it. I am in a red area so there are not many at this point wearing them maybe 5% but that is earlier in the day in a uncrowded store less in crowded stores - I may see a couple people in Costco with a mask. I'm in southern California.
I don't see a mandate coming back - I would hope during flu season in medical offices but I don't see it coming back in regular businesses and schools.
I keep hearing that the more recent versions you can catch it again rather soon so I wouldn't assume immunity for long - more than a few weeks or a month.
I have heard some say they were rather sick but not hospitalized with the recent strains but then some that it is mild so again it is the luck of the draw and then there is the risk of long covid. Repeated infections take a toll on the organs of the body.

I do see a few people masking here and there when I am running errands. A local hospital/health organization (Kaiser Permanente) is requiring masks again for everyone in their facilities as Covid is increasing here. I follow a cruise message board and people are still getting Covid on and coming off cruises. I figured with school starting up again there will be an uptick in cases.

I was at the medical offices where my pharmacy is located last night. They had a mandatory mask rule throughout the pandemic and for quite a few months after. I think they only stopped requiring it about two or three months ago. I did notice that they still had a mask dispenser when you walked through the front doors. I don’t mind wearing one if it is required and suspect that the medical center will go back to requiring it if it gets bad again.

I am in Seattle, where we had relatively robust mask mandates back in the day, and have not heard a peep about requiring masks. My university doesn't even track cases now.

Here an article from today... just a few... there seem to be more.. The recent upturn in COVID-19 cases in some regions has spurred a handful of entities around the country to reinstate mask mandates, reigniting the debate over what place masking requirements have in an era of living with the coronavirus. Earlier this week, Hollywood movie studio Lionsgate asked its employees to wear masks on certain floors of its facilities in Santa Monica, Calif., in response to a few staff members testing positive for COVID-19. Kaiser Permanente began to require staff, patients and visitors to wear masks at its facility in Santa Rosa, Calif., this week in response to a spike in cases. Upstate Medical University in New York announced a similar decision last week for two of its hospitals. Schools including Rutgers University in New Jersey and Morris Brown College in Georgia have issued mask mandates for their respective campuses, with the Atlanta-based school reinstating masks as a two-week precautionary measure. thehill.com/policy/healthcare/4167625-mask-mandates-reemerge-amid-upturn-in-covid-19-cases/

I haven’t heard anything about that but I did see a guy wearing one yesterday, walking on the sidewalk outside, by himself in the 100° heat. 🤪 🥵 Even I think that was a little over the top TBH. I plan to get a booster when the new one is released I think sometime in September along with a flu shot. In the meantime, if cases keep going up here I probably would start to wear one again when I’m in more crowded settings. I tried to get a booster last week (not my first) and was told the only people being boostered right now are elderly or those in high risk categories. They said that is subject to change in the upcoming month as cases increase....so, stay tuned.

We won't see a Federal or even State Mandate like before. It's fear mongering by the extreme right for election season.
I wear a mask in certain places still: Costco, Dr's Offices, sometimes grocery stores depending on how many people are around and always in the airport/flying.

There will never be another mask mandate. People won't comply. In the past few months, I have worn a mask less recently, now only wearing one when I'm in a crowd of people or when traveling. Mask wearing is almost non-existent where I am. And on my last flight, it was only me and my family wearing a mask.

I haven't heard anything about masks, but I have heard of a few different schools reimplementing some of their COVID precautions as this school year starts.

At my dad's care facility, one positive case is considered an outbreak and they then mandate masking of visitors. I think they may also have residents mask in public areas. I have no problem with that. Where DH works they have about 35% of the residents testing positive right now. After the first case the staff and all visitors have to mask; N95s required for staff and most visitors have chosen these as well, but they’re not required to. They have had one resident get pretty sick this time around, which hasn’t happened the last 3 rounds. The first time it went through they lost about a third of their residents, but no serious cases in any iteration since. I truly feel like those that were super susceptible lost their lives the first time they got it. Someone mentioned how this is more contagious, but not more serious. Has that been confirmed? Last I saw we knew it was more contagious but they didn’t yet know about the severity. DH is the only staff that never stopped wearing his, and also the only one who works directly with the residents that has never gotten it. Even most of the office staff have tested positive at one point, due to the lack of a good filtration system I imagine. So at least we know they work! Anyway, we had just gotten the okay from both of our doctors to stop masking in any instance a week or two ago (mine took so long because I was trying to find a new rheumatologist). So, this is about par for the course for us.

And the latest recommendation I saw was that those at high risk get a booster when it becomes available, but that others should wait for it to be timed better to the indoor winter months when it’s expected to really increase.

I heard it would be available sometime in September which would be when I would be due for a booster anyway. DH just got a booster a couple weeks ago but it was the most recent “new” one that DD and I got last year right after it was released in September. I remember it specifically because it took six weeks to get DD in for a school physical and the new vaccine was available the next freaking day so we had to make another separate appointment with the lab two days later to get it. So annoying!

I work in a pediatric hospital. My friends in the adult world are seeing increased admissions from Covid but people are not nearly as sick as in the past. Mostly its supportive care ie oxygen, IV fluids etc.
In my facility, there has not been any talk about going back to Covid precautions. We were wearing masks and goggles whenever we were public or patient facing. Basically, the only ones that didn't have to wear protective equipment were office workers in their cubicles.

We definitely have more cases but they don't seem to be very sick overall. Nothing at all like in the beginning and the start of Delta. Thanks for sharing that. I know someone who just came down with it and had a helluva time battling it. I was starting to get nervous. I asked at the pharmacy about a booster the other day and they told me no boosters unless you're over 65. So I guess the shot I had last September is it.

I find it so sad and so telling that so many are against masking. I feel for all the “essential workers” who will be required to go to work and get coughed on and yelled at by people who think mask mandates infringe their rights. Grocery stores may not be crowded when I am in them, but the poor check out girl is getting exposed over and over all day every day and without a mandate, people will not care. I see it as similar to no shirt no shoes no service. Your flip flops don’t protect anyone but you from i jury and the store from liability but we all wear them. Your shirt protects no one at all but we all put it on without any complaint. It suddenly being asked not to put a cashiers life at risk is some major infringement. We have a vocal sector screaming about all lives are sacred and should have the right to my body but the guy at Costco doesn’t matter and we can’t wear a mask for 20 minutes to protect him. Selfish.

I find it ironic that coming up in flu season that local Kaiser medical offices just removed the plexiglass. It wasn’t all over but it was still up in the checkin area until July and now it’s gone. Masks weren’t required and I wonder when they will be back.
People are already posting nastiness about people that are wearing a mask. They say it’s been proved that they don’t help and totally are back to making fun of people. Calling them idiots and encouraging people to laugh at them. Such Christian kindness. I know it’s only a minority but it still rubs me wrong that they go out of their way to be nasty. It doesn’t hurt them that someone is wearing one but they take such offense. If Covid and flu gets bad snd I feel I want to wear one I may go back to just curbside again as I don’t want some freak yelling at me. Yes they went as a group snd we’re doing that at stores 😡

I'm sure some places may get a new mask mandate but obviously there won't be a national requirement. Who would impose it and who would enforce it? Flying into Denver earlier this week, I saw one other couple wearing masks the entire time I was in the airport. My family members will wear masks on planes forever and in very crowded indoor situations until Covid isn't a concern anymore.
ETA: I had Covid for the first time in July and it was a very mild case. However, I am still having significant brain fog.

Wear a mask if you choose, we do not need to accept their shared germs. I care enough not to share mine with you and/or them.
Remember which group had a higher percentage of serious hospitalizations and deaths during the height of Covid and since.

I don’t wear a mask unless required to do so by the places I go. That said, if someone is masked, it’s not hurting me, I don’t care. I will stand a little farther from them for their comfort/benefit. I assume they may be sick and not wanting to share (thank you) or are battling something that has decrease their immune system or care for someone who has the same.
My parents mask all the time. When they grocery shop, when they fly, when in crowded places. They have seen what Covid has done to their friends and don’t want it. They are boosted to the max. They don’t socialize with “unvaccinated people” (their words)- but they do see my husband and me and our kids and don’t mask around us. My last booster was in March 2022. My husband only had the 2 dose. Neither of my kids are vaccinated. All 4 of us had Covid over the course. Myself and my dd were Christmas 2021, dh and DS were July 2022. They know all of this It’s all so very confusing to me as to what is acceptable to them. But, it’s their lives and their choice.

My son has it going around his work and says everyone there just feels like cold symptoms. I am masking at school. We are just too close to eachother and I don't want to be one of the reasons it spreads around and I don't want to miss work.

From Australia - there has been a sharp increase in cases throughout the country and while I have not heard any talk of mandates etc I have certainly seen a lot more masks being worn when out and about in the community.
medical centres, hospitals can still request they be worn but I think now it is just a personal choice. I do wear a mask shopping as you just never know…

I’m so tired of anti maskers. I was just told that immune compromised didn’t even exist 4 years ago 🤦♀️. Yes people with cancer or autoimmune diseases are a brand new thing. I’m not even going to respond to them but they really think that no one should be allowed to wear a mask snd if they see someone wearing one they will point out that scientifically they are harmful and laugh at them. I am so not looking forward to flu season. Our hospital is already full and it’s not from flu or Covid cases.
