I heard rumors about a new mask mandate coming in September, but I haven't seen anything verifiable. Has anyone else heard this?

Well they are saying the virus is spreading now. I can see places wanting people to wear masks. People will complain. It will probably be the same ones that complained before.

I read advised to wear mask.
The way our nation went off the rails over mandatory masks, I don't think mandatory will return.

I think it is just recommended. Not mandated. I will be wearing my mask in my classroom.

Texas will not mandate and they've passed a law preventing municipalities from making laws/requirements more strict than what the state does, so that prevents Houston/Dallas/Austin/SA from mandating. Don't even get me started on that.
Private entities are, of course, still free to do as they like.
I do not plan to wear a mask in school at this time but will re-evaluate as needed. We were told in pre-service that we can't ask students to wear masks, even if they are coughing up a lung in class.
ETA: I will be getting a booster when I'm due.

.
I know that numbers here (NYC) are going up, and the stats are being reported on the news. I don't think a mandate will ever work again, but I definitely think people are aware and mask usage is increasing. School starts in two weeks and I think that will have a big impact on Covid rates, as it has in the past (at least here).

Haven't heard anything about another mask mandate, although I have been hearing that COVID cases are on the rise. I am high-risk, so I would consider going back to wearing one if numbers continue to rise.

I've had a few kids out sick lately, not super sick from what I have heard.
I do NOT plan to wear a mask at school while teaching. I may re-evaluate depending.
I also am not getting any booster shots.
We shall see how it all plays out.

Mom of a primary immunodeficiency child, a medically fragile child, and myself with medical needs (like born with a CHD).
I really hope we do not have any mandatory face mask rules again.
For sure it super important at the start.
But with advances in medications, treatments, and the vaccines that work at reducing hospitalization, I feel it should be up to each person to decide.
Now in medical settings, I do think it is wise to request people wear masks. That is the only place we currently mask - ER, hospital, doctors offices. People are sick and germs are aplenty.
We are currently not masking, even dd. But we will reasses when fall comes and dd has said she would mask up in November through mid Jan when it will really peak.
No idea if we will have ds mask at school. Dh does when around students. But when just with a teacher, has it off.

Cases are rising everywhere. I do not think we will ever see another mask mandate in this country, even if it helps save lives. Compliance would be non-existent in red states.

I saw on tv that Covid is the number three cause of death right now. I'll get another booster, but would hate to go back to masks. I teach reading to struggling young readers and a mask really makes is challenging.

I'd say somewhere between 10-15% of people around here wear masks in public on a typical day. I don't think we'll have another general mask mandate - and think it would be pointless to try - but I do expect the voluntary masking contingent will increase as we go into the fall and winter months. At least on the west coast.

I haven’t heard anything about that but I did see a guy wearing one yesterday, walking on the sidewalk outside, by himself in the 100° heat. 🤪 🥵 Even I think that was a little over the top TBH.
I plan to get a booster when the new one is released I think sometime in September along with a flu shot. In the meantime, if cases keep going up here I probably would start to wear one again when I’m in more crowded settings.

I doubt there will be any mandates for this new uptick in cases. People won’t stand for it. I stopped wearing a mask for most things since summer started. Even our doctor’s offices don’t require one. I would wear one if I went somewhere crowded. I went to Comic Con this past summer and wore a mask. Also wore one on the trolley because they were packed full. I still see people here wearing mask at the store and stuff.

I haven't seen anything about reintroducing mask mandates here, but have seen suggestions that it might be a good idea to do so voluntarily, with the uptick in cases. I just have a gut feel that there are more people wearing masks than there were at the start of summer, but it might be I am noticing it because of the news reports on the new variant.

I haven't heard anything but did see a new variant and uptick in cases. I would wear a mask if it gets bad again, even if they don't mandate it. When I travel I still wear one. I haven't heard when the new booster will be available, but I will get that one when it is ready.

Due to having zero immune system and unable to get COVID vaccines/boosters, I haven't stopped wearing a mask. I hate it, especially in this heat/humidity. I have seen mention of mandates in the Boston Globe but it was in passing, the articles have been various local health professionals (we trip over them here) giving opinions on the rise we're seeing in cases here as kids go back to school after Labor Day.

It’s fear mongering.
People in masks may be recovering from Covid or medically fragile. There is a new variant, EG5, which is supposed to be more transmissible but no worse than previous versions.

We definitely have more cases but they don't seem to be very sick overall. Nothing at all like in the beginning and the start of Delta.

I don't believe we will ever see federal or even state mandated masking. I have seen a few businesses/clinics mandate masks recently.
At my dad's care facility, one positive case is considered an outbreak and they then mandate masking of visitors. I think they may also have residents mask in public areas. I have no problem with that.

I had covid a month ago and still have a stupid cough. I'm in Texas, and like others have said, we won't see a mask mandate here.
I did wear a mask after my first five days and will get the new booster shot whenever it is ready but at least I'll enjoy immunity for a few months!

at least I'll enjoy immunity for a few months! They've said that with these last several variants, they are (unfortunately) not really seeing that to be the case. I'm sure it's boosted a tiny bit, but don't count on any significant bump.

I'm sure it's boosted a tiny bit, but don't count on any significant bump. Luckily, my BFF who I was staying with on vacation when I got it, didn't get it though she had had it a couple of months before me so there is at least a little bit of immunity I would hope but I'm ready for a new booster!
