I have a pretty low water bill just NW of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's about $42 per month.
In Minnesota, license tabs for vehicles are based on car value. So my old SUV is about $60, but my newer SUV is about $350 per year.
We have roughly 8% sales tax on everything but food and clothing, so that adds to our fun!

I live in Orange County and pay for water and trash every other or every 3 months. I’m actually not even sure. I don’t know my rates but my bill is about $120 each billIng cycle. I do not waste water but I don’t conserve either. I also do not water my lawn. I do water my plants & flowers though. My biggest beef is the trash. I use my blue recycle can and green can for grass clipping but they also expect us to sort food waste into the green can. Then they raised our trash rate significantly! That’s BS and I don’t do it. I’m not putting food waste, that cannot be bagged, into the bottom of a green plastic can in 100° weather. That’s a maggot and rodents wet dream! I'm also in OC. We use biodegradable bags with no issues. Have been doing it since it started. We have a small container on the counter and take it out every 2-3 days. My monthly water bill is under 100. Last month was 62. We have a single family home built in the 70s with a decent but not huge yard for the area. Our city has said no bags, not even the biodegradable. If we could use them, I would gladly separate my food waste.

My pet peeve is car registration…shouldn’t cost close to $1000 annually to register a car. I've never paid close to $1000 for my car registration in California even when I had a fully loaded BMW. My current bill is sitting right here, for a 2017 Nissan Rogue it's $297.

Property taxes are have stayed steady for quite a few years and have come down over the years after a rise . $1950/year.Canadian dollars ours are 2+ times that a month (if one were to divide it out over the year) I live in a 45 year old 1300 sq ft home (plus basement, no garage) in a tiny village in northern Alberta. The value of my home would be in the low $200,000. If my home was on a quarter of land the taxes would be half that. If it was on an acerage it would more than the $1950. Vehicle registration is $93 a year for all passenger vehicles, regardless of make or year. We have 3 ton trucks and they cost $632 a year and I thought that was high.

My bill is quarterly and it's about $200. Our rates went up b/c we have to pay for the new water filtration plant. Our town water is trash so I also spent the money to have a water purifying system in.

My water bill is combined with sewage, garbage and recycling. I get trash pick up twice a week (which I don't need) and recycling/lawn waste once a week.
My bill averages around $70 per month except when it shoots up to close to $100 during the summer.
I'm in DFW.

Omg. Some of the prices posted here are startling. $1,000 for auto registration?! $500 or $279?! You mean you pay those prices just to renew your registration? $330 bi-monthly for water (to increase to $600+)?! How do regular working folks sustain these prices?
I’m in IL. I pay $151/year for auto registration renewal, and that’s after a hefty increase by the state. My bi-monthly bill for water, garbage, and water-sewer tax is $50 total. In the warmer months when the sprinkler systems in the front and back yards are on, it increases to $75. I own rental properties and the tenants pay for their own utilities—none, to my knowledge, pay more than $150/month for ALL utilities (gas, electricity, water).

California is an expensive place to live. It is what it is. Our wages are typically higher but yeah it is hard for a lot of people. But people still choose to move here.

My water bill has been consistently $30-$40 a month since I moved in. Most months being right around $30 with the unexplained exception of last November where the water company said I used more than 3x the water I usually use. I had no guests and it went right back down so it is not a leak that I am unaware of. So generally $ 360-$400/year at my usage rate. It’s weird as heck because I had my water heater replaced in spring which meant draining the old & filling the new. 🤷♀️
Sewer & garbage collection & recycling & bulk pick up are included in my property taxes which are approx $12,000/year. But like I said it does include the above services that many municipalities do not include or charge a separate fee for.
My car registration is about $50
Sales tax is 6.625% but no taxes on unprepared food or clothes under a certain amount.

I am in a Dallas suburb. I shredded my bill already so I can't tell you the rates but we run about $40-50 per month except in the summer when we are watering the lawn. I looked at my bank account and the month of July was $65 and June was $46. On rare occasions we have paid over $100. I am sure it will be over $100 when it arrives for the past month. --Only 2 in our household, but we have a large lawn and a vegetable garden. ETA:
The fee includes twice weekly garbage PU and recycle PU once per week. Once per month is "bulk PU" which is for things such as furniture, washing machine etc.
We can put the garbage out in a bag or in a container.

I would love water rates as low as most people here. My bill for water and sewer averages $150 to $200 per MONTH. My car registration renewed in August and was $386 for the year. It is an 11 year old minivan. I do remember the first few years I owned it, the registration was over $500.

I'm in Alabama and on septic system. Our water bill runs $35 monthly, just house usage, sprinkler system uses lake water. Our power levelized billing is $330 per month all electric except for gas stove and logs. We are hoping the power goes down as we installed windows last year. I understand why people retire out of California!

I’m not sure I understand the math to compare, but our current bill is $263 for 3515 CF this month. This is about $9 a day, and an increase of 96% over June because the rain stopped and the sprinkler system was activated. In Colorado for comparison. Definitely adjusting usage, and the yard out back has been reduced 2/3. I’m a renter right now but I’d be losing all the lawn out front if it was my house.

I live in the County and am on septic, so no sewer.
We also have our own water district. We have a minimum of $38/month for water, plus $2/month for street lights. That $38 is for I think 4,000 gallons. Then they start to add based on usage in 1,000 gallon increments. But it's pennies per gallon.
My bill is around $48-50 in the summer with some minimal watering of certain items in my yard. When outdoor watering isn't a thing, it's usually less than $44.

Mine is $33-38 each month for water, sewage, and trash pickup.
I'm in shock at what some of you pay.

We have our own well and pay for salt ($30/month). We are also on septic, so we don't have a water/sewer bill. I pay $31 per quarter for trash and recycling pick up.

For those of you on a septic system, you don’t have a bill but how often do you have to empty it and how much does that cost?

I've been here for five years and have not had to have the septic pumped yet, it was done just prior to the house being sold. My mom has been in her house 24 years with a septic and had it pumped once when she moved in. I think the general recommendation is to have them pumped every 3-5 years and it runs about $600. I have several friends and family members with septic systems and it seems to be that if you take care of the system and don't put stuff down your pipes that you shouldn't the pumping schedule is rarely necessary.

For those of you on a septic system, you don’t have a bill but how often do you have to empty it and how much does that cost? We are on septic and well and have been here for 10 years. We have never had to empty our septic. We do have to have a yearly inspection and that comes to about $300 a year, depending on what needs to be replaced ie air filter, etc. It has never been more than that but it has been less.
I just paid our gas bill and it was $60; in the winter it is around $250 each month - I am in Ontario so of course I am using more to heat the house in those months. Our hydro bill was $195 this month which is absolutely ridiculous - last month was $50 and we rarely go over $200 even in the winter. No idea why it was so much and they were no help when I called to ask why.
