This is so dumb, I know it is, but it has bugged the crap out of me all summer. LOL
This past winter, a young couple bought the house across the street from me. I haven't met them at all. I know zero about them.
This guy though. He needs a new hobby because I am pretty sure his hobby is washing his truck. The man washes his truck at least 3-4 times a week, sometimes more. I rarely even see it not in his driveway, so I am not sure why he needs to wash it so often. (He has a work van that he also drives). It's immaculate looking, all the time. I guess he wants to keep it that way. I've never seen it dirty or muddy or anything like that.
But so many nights, he is out in his driveway washing his truck. It's Friday, and this is the third time this week. It hasn't rained, I've rarely seen the truck not in his driveway. It can't be that dirty. LOL
Why do I care? I really don't except that he "blow dries" it with some really loud thing. It takes him at least 30 minutes to blow it dry every single time. He even gets in the bed of the truck and blow dries the inside of that.
And the dryer thing is so loud, which disturbs my peaceful porch sitting. Which is why I am venting. LOL
Sometimes, I think about walking over there with a plate of cookies or something so I can get to know them because I really want to know why this guy washes his car so often. And when he is finished blow drying it, he has this little thing that he sits on and wheels himself around hand wiping everything.
Okay, I am officially Mrs. Kravitz, huh? I really just want to know why this guy washes his clean truck every other day. LOL

We have a friend like that and offers to detail our car all the time. If we don’t keep it up to his standards he will judge us. We won’t let him near it.

If he is that weird/obsessed about washing his car I can almost guarantee that he has a multitude of other issues. Stay far away.😂🤣

Could be any reason >> why?: He has obsessive compulsive tendencies. The cars (including his work vehicle) are his *toys* and he needs to play with them every day. He is giving his Wife some alone time. He stays outside with his cars to avoid his Wife's "honey-do" list. He doesn't like to be idle. He doesn't have any hobbies other than the cars.
The noise would be frustrating and annoying to me (sensory issues). I can tolerate 30 minutes a day, as the neighborly thing to do....but more than that, I would politely say something.
Since he does such a great job washing his cars, I would be asking what he would charge to do mine. I bet he does a great job on detailing the inside of a car.

Is the blower thing green/black? Could be Ryobi brand, that has all kinds of cool attachments like lawn trimmer, saws, which includes a blower. How do I know? My DH has one. I have helped him blow dry our car with apparatus and I wear ear protection while using it. Maybe he just got it and wants to try it out? Does he use a power washer, too? Vehicle-washing products and tools are another level of something to do and spend money on. Reminds me of scrap-booking hobbies, but only louder. lol

Is he avoiding his wife? He may just be obsessed with the truck or he could be using the job of cleaning it to keep his mind and his hands busy.

I'm retired from our local 4 service utility. I'd be miffed at all the wasted water!

I’m thinking a little OCD. Can you wait till he’s done drying the truck till you go sit outside? Or maybe if you do take cookies over and meet them, maybe the time will come (soon) that you can ask him to finish up a little earlier in the evening, or something along those lines. So you can sit on the porch when you like. If he’s friendly, keep taking them baked goods. I wish he was my neighbor, because I’d ask him to wash my car, too. Is his truck dark colored? My old car is silver and didn’t need lots of washing. The new one is super-dark blue, almost black, and it ALWAYS looks dirty. The college kid next door washes it for me (and does a meticulous job of it) but two days later, it looks dusty and gross again.

It sounds like he is a bit obsessive about his truck or he is avoiding his wife. The noise would bother me. Several neighbors get their cars detailed often and they use a power washer with generator. Other neighbors have mobile dog groomers that use a generator. Then the other neighbor that power washes the frint if his house. I also have issues with noises but none of my neighbors are doing anything that out if the ordinary. One person washing his truck multiple times a week would bother me but know there wouldn’t be anything I could do about it. I understand noises bugging you. We often don’t use our hot tub because the neighbors children or friends children are screeching. I often move around the house to different rooms to avoid noise.

We're in stage 2 mandatory water restrictions. He'd only be doing it twice a week around here because that's all we're allowed. The noise would annoy the heck out of me.

My friend’s husband washes his truck several times a week. He doesn’t have OCD, he’s not avoiding his wife, he’s not weird. He’s just a normal guy who likes to keep his truck pristine.

I remember when ds bought his first car, that he had saved up all his money to buy. That thing was the cleanest car in the city - for the first 6 months. Then it kind of wore off

Is he avoiding his wife? . My next door neighbour washes his and his wife’s cars frequently (and sometimes her friends when they visit) and tells us it’s to get out of the house full of women - wife and twin DDs.

It has a pack thing that he wears on his back when he is using it. It kind of looks like a leaf blower, but smaller.

OMG. I would not like that at all! My street is pretty busy, and sometimes, just the constant stream of cars makes me not enjoy my porch. LOL I've already decided that when I move, I need a quiet street. Yeah, I'm old! LOL

He is causing thousands of tiny micro scratches to the finish every time he is using the dryer as it picks up dust and dirt in the air and hits his vehicle with them at high velocity. Might want to share this with him. Yes, I totally made this up but you can tell him you read it on the internet.
