I'll have to save this thread. I still have the can opener I went to college with in 1988 and it still works perfectly. I live in fear of the day if breaks. LOL As you should! I used the same one for years and years and now I'm in a every 6-months cycle, and I don't like any of them!

Another vote for OXO one! I had the Pampered Chef one and HATED it, I gave it away.

I've only used manual can openers. I don't even know how to use an electric one. Sorry you are having problems. This is me too. Back in the day when DH and I got our first house, we got an electric can opener at a garage sale. We used it for years before it pooped out. I decided I didn't like it out on the counter taking up space so we didn't ever buy a new one. Just used manual ones. I have two ... One is the Pampered Chef one that basically unseals the can without a sharp edge. The other is a grocery store one that is ALL METAL - That's the important part. The gears in it need to be metal, not plastic.

I love, love, love my Kuhn Rikon one. And I’ve used a lot—even the pampered chef one and this one is SO good.
