My mother bought me little houses/ jewelry boxes (some open to reveal a hiding place) that I put under the Christmas tree (maybe in 1995) from OTC. I just love them and have never found something similar. I remember finding unique things from OTC, but now it's just bulk stuff. I wish for the old days, when there weren't so many things to choose from. I like that I have this special moment that I put out these houses and remember my mom. There's so much stuff out there, that I want to give these memories to my kiddos, something special. I am such a penny pincher, that I hate spending money on crap, but what if I missed out on spending something on a unique present that kiddos will treasure? Anyone just feel overwhelmed with the commercialization of everything?

That's one of the reason's I love Etsy. Lots of junk and plenty of the same stuff but with a little searching there is unique stuff to be found.

I grew up a couple of miles away from the store in Omaha. I loved going in and wandering the aisles for hours. Some of the pictured didn't do the items justice. I haven't been back since 2001.

950nancy - I remember the store too. Whenever I go back, I always stop at Nobbies, but over the years it isn't as exciting as it used to be.
