So, I clicked on this article because of the title, ready to roll my eyes, well because you know, Florida. But reading through it, more than half the article deals with talking to other doctors and their recommendations along with the CDC recommendations. www.yahoo.com/news/covid-booster-warning-florida-surgeon-155352238.htmlDr. Marc Siegel, a professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Fox News medical contributor, pointed out that vaccines "have been given to trillions around the world and in the vast majority of cases, they are safe."
He told Fox News Digital, "Physicians with knowledge of vaccines should be involved in deciding the risk/benefit for their patients and offering advice, but it is ultimately up to the individual."
"For younger, healthier patients with intact immune systems and a foundation of immune memory against SARS-CoV-2 from prior vaccines and infection, I may choose to not recommend an additional booster at this time, but vilifying it is a dangerous move that undermines patient choice and the vaccine as one of my most important tools," he went on.
High-risk groups — including the elderly, along with those who have obesity, diabetes, chronic heart disease, lung disease and cancer — should be prioritized in receiving vaccines, the doctor said.
This is the CDC recommendation: The CDC website also states that "most people ages six years and older who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised and have received 1 dose of a bivalent mRNA vaccine do not need any further vaccine doses at this time."It added, "People ages 65 years and older who received 1 dose of a bivalent vaccine have the option to receive 1 additional dose at least 4 months after the first bivalent dose."My own doctor has told me that I do not need to get the new booster that is coming out soon. Will you be getting the new booster? I am leaning towards no right now. My doctor said I don't need it and the CDC says I don't need it. I will be getting the flu shot though. |

For now, my doctor has advised against it unless it becomes a requirement for travel to somewhere I want/need to go. My iron and hemoglobin tanked just before Christmas for no reason that the doctors have been able to find (I do have one last scope left, the one where you swallow the camera and it can see the parts of the bowel/intestine that an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy can't see). The timing coincided with when I got my flu and covid shots, and I did have covid in the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2021, and as my GP pointed out, "they" don't really know all that much about covid in the grand scheme of things ... so she thinks I should hold off on the booster ... but she also says that I should try not to get covid, too ... easy, right?!  |

Absolutely. I’m still struggling with long Covid effects from multiple rounds of Covid. I’d like to have more protection.

100% yes.
I am a cancer survivor. I am 60. I teach elementary school where we’ve already had multiple cases of COVID this school year.
Honestly? It is a no-brainer for me. I’ve already had my flu and RSV vaccines this year.

Yes, absolutely.
We are both obese (though less so!) and have diabetes, DH has cirrhosis, and I take meds that lower my immunity. Plus, he works in a nursing home (that just went through its 4th or 5th iteration of COVID. This time only half the residents tested positive) and we socialize closely with people who are medically fragile.

Nope. I got the first booster and then “coincidently” had the heaviest period I’d ever had in my life and it lasted 21 days (I went to urgent care as I was faint from blood loss). I was part of a study for that in relation to COVID booster and vaccine so I’m going to pass. I also had some other symptoms that I can’t pin on the vaccine/booster but I do wonder. I don’t generally get non required vaccines but I felt it was the right thing for me and society to do it and get the first booster at the time but I’m out for now (even though my work will pay me $1000 for getting boosted up to the CDC, Rec which would be one more for me I think). I’ve never had Covid (that I know, but I’ve also never been sick since before covid).

I have a pre-op appointment on Tuesday and need to remember to ask. I am 61, a cancer survivor and have a grade schooler in my household. I’m thinking I probably should. I’m having surgery in October and really don’t want to get sick afterward.

I am undecided. I will talk my my friend who is a GP and see what she says. I just had a booster in June, so I don't need another one for quite a while, anyway.

Yes. I had COVID about a month ago and it wasn’t fun. So I’m all for any vaccines. I figure I’ll get it and my flu shot together.

At this point no. I’m not in a high risk group. I rarely get flu shots and at this point consider COVID vaccines in the same category as flu vaccines. If the virus changes or the risk factors in my household change then I’ll reconsider.

Yes, I sub in an elementary school, have 2 teens, my FIL & SIL are immunocompromised and we are planning an overseas trip (14 hr flight) with and to see family this December.

We are both obese (though less so!) Congratulations! I probably will, because I mildly meet some qualifications, have kids in 2 different schools who often bring illnesses home, and have DD working as an EMS intern. I will also force DD to get the booster for that reason as well as having asthma. I'll let DH and DS decide for themselves. |

Yes. My Dr. recommends it. I work in an elementary school and I have 3 grandchildren, 2 of whom are in preschool. I’m also going to get the RSV shot.

No. I was a huge advocate for the shot and the boosters and was one of the first to get it…BUT…I had the worst muscle pain of my life in my legs, weakness etc. Had to see a neurologist and he advised no more boosters. So for myself, a huge no. For others, absolutely! Especially the elderly and those with health issues.
Edited: I have never had Covid

I’m going to get the new one because it’s been a year since I last had a booster. I’m hoping this one will work on the newer strains that seem to be prevalent right now. I’ll take whatever advantages available so even if I do get it I hopefully won’t get it that bad.

It sounds like I won't need a booster. I am just getting over Covid and it wasn't fun. Hopefully I at least have some new immunity to come out of being sick.

Yes - I work in a school where it's already blowing around, and the teachers who've had it this time say it's bad. Also, my DH is "elderly" (though it seems funny to call him that!) and I'm planning a trip in November that I don't want to miss.

Now, I haven’t read anything in a few weeks so it’s possible there’s something new out right now. The other recommendation I’ve seen is that the immunocompromised get it now, otherwise wait until closer to winter to get it so you have stronger immunity while it’s expected to be most prevalent. |
