I've been summoned twice and both times not picked for jury duty (married to a law enforcement officer... attorneys seem to not want me on a jury!). I went several years without being summoned. Last month I was summoned for Federal Court jury duty. The instructions said to call the night before, after 5pm. I dutifully called four days in a row and my "number" wasn't included so I didn't have to appear. I completely forgot to call the last night and didn't remember about it until mid-afternoon the next day. I'm still looking over my shoulder to see if I'm going to be scooped up!!!

I remember reading about that case in the news. It would have been an interesting trial, but I don't think it's one I would want ingrained in my mind. Glad you got excused!

Glad he pleaded guilty. Glad you got released. That would have been terrible to sit through.

I got called one time about 30 years ago. I have a hearing impairment so I kept asking them to repeat the questions and the judge got pissed. Explained my issue and he said you need to go get a hearing test and have it filed with the juror department or whatever it’s called cause you shouldn’t be here! I was so embarrassed. Did what he said and have never been called again!!!! And I would love to be a juror!!!

Glad he pleaded guilty. Glad you got released. That would have been terrible to sit through. Could you tell me where you read that he pled guilty? I cannot Find that info. I assume they let us go because either tha trial has been delayed or that this expected to last longer than the two weeks they told us would begin on October 4. Now that I am free to Google him, I see There has been a similar charge in Oregon and that investigators think there have been many more kidnappings and sexual assaults by him over the past 10 years.

currently on Jury duty this month - haven't had to go in yet I diid not escape unscathed - got called in September 28th. Was in the first jury pool and the second person released for cause. They read the witness list and asked if anyone knew anyone from the list. There were 6 police officers/detectives listed and I personally knew 3 of them because of my husbands employment (he is retired now) at the Police Dept. Once I gave them that information they released me. The defense attorney asked me if I would tend to believe a police officer over a defendant. I said I would. So of course he asked that I be released. The state prosecutor denied and ask me if given instructions to be fair and impartial and listen to all of the facts would I be able to do so. I said I would. So she denied my release. The defense attorney then asked me another question. If I was a defendant would I want someone like me with an extensive history affiliated with the police department on my jury? I said I would not. So he again asked that I be released. The state prosecutor did not object. She gave me a smile when she pronounced my last name correctly (the defense attorney did not pronounce it correctly) so I knew she was aware that my daughter worked just down the hall for the states attorneys office - in the juvenile abuse & neglect division. So although I was interested in being selected (since they assured us it would be just a 1 day trial) for the experience of serving I was sent home.....well back to work that is.

Oh sorry, it was super late. I mis-read the link you posted. He pled NOT guilty.

I've been called twice. Once I didn't even have to appear. The other, I had just graduated from law school and was studying for the bar. The judge refused to release me on those grounds. I sat for a full week, trying to study while the attorneys in this murder trial were conducting voir dire. I was finally called up late on a Friday. Of course, after learning my background, the defendant's attorney dismissed me. Who in their right mind wants a know-it-all law grad influencing the jury? I was never so glad to leave a building in my life.

I don't mind the being summoned. A day of doing my duty is fine. It is that out of 300+ people that show up, I have been called back (25 people each time). I feel like people think a teacher will be a good person on a trial. What isn't okay is being out of your classroom for more than a day unless it is really necessary. So in addition to being out of my room, I have to go into school to plan for the day/week whatever. This involves 2+ hours of planning when you teach elementary and have no repeat classes. Then when you go back, you find that your kids haven't learned half of what you would have taught them. I know there isn't a way around this. Lots of people have very good reasons for not being picked for a jury. It is just kind of stressful knowing a big trial is coming up and you have been called around the jury selection time.
