Y'all have been great with suggestions of where to shop recently (clothing wise) for this or that (weight loss), and I appreciate it. I've discovered a few new shops that I really like.
I am now shopping for a light-mid weight trench coat. I can find casual rain jackets just fine, but I spent hours shopping online yesterday trying to find something with no luck. I want it to wear with nicer pants and such when going out. If you have shops to recommend, I'm all ears. I'd add the list of places I've looked, but it would be too long. Just imagine I've looked at all the usual suspects!
MY CRITERIA:
* Not wool. I'd like a lighter weight coat that I can layer underneath if necessary. * Ideally in a petite size. * NOT black, NOT camel, and not a garish bright color. Greens, purples, autumnal colors would be ideal. * Trench style that hits ABOVE the knees. * Does NOT need to be waterproof, but water resistant please. * Not a lot of "stuff" on it. I am small and lots of buttons, flaps, etc. overwhelm me. I want understated and classic.
If you've got any suggestions I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I thought I had finally hit it late last night with JCrew (they do petite coats) but not so much.

What about a men’s coat? They seem to have less flaps and stuff. You’ll have to get it tailored I’m guessing but you might with a woman’s style too.

A men's style definitely won't come even close to working for me but thanks for that thought! I like the coat you linked, but on a man summer, no denim for a trench for me. It's too casual and not classic enough for what I have in mind. I'd be curious what outerwear style you'd recommend, you really hit it for me with shops on my previous clothing post! linda, I tried Lands End, thank you. It's between them and Eddie Bauer for a more casual raincoat, but unfortunately I didn't see what I'm looking for at their site. They've got several wool options, but I'm trying to stay away from a heavier coat.

Oh, I missed that one, it might be a go provided I can get the fit right, thank you. Hadn't thought of London Fog, I'll go peek at their site too.

I’m petite also and for outerwear I like pea coats (though I know you said you don’t want wool) and as mentioned above I also like quilted barn jackets. I like coats that tie at waist too. Have you looked at Burberry?

Try QVC. Great prices. Great styles. Great prices. And they often have Petite, Regular and Tall sizes. And of course plus sizes too.

Have you looked at Burberry? Ha, my first time on the Burberry site. $2k-$3k is a bit dear for me. But, my birthday is coming up if you need some ideas ETA: when I think quilted barn coats, I think older lady - which at 62 describes me, so I don't particularly want to advertise it. Are there updated styles that are more modern feeling?

J Crew has a gorgeous green trench in petite sizing I know, thank you! I saw it last night. It's a bit on the bright side in the pics (none in stock locally to see in person) but I just broke down and bought 2 sizes (will return the other) in hopes that I like it. There were only a couple left in my size, so I felt the pressure to make a decision quickly. I hate the gold buttons though so I'll need to have them replaced with something that blends into the coat better. I am also eyeing a London Fog in a muted green. I'm hoping that something works for me. That said, I'm still on the hunt for something that makes me say "this is it" and forget about the others!

Are there updated styles that are more modern feeling? Oh oof didn’t know they were quite so expensive! Sorry - I just think of them as the classic brand - and something I’d own for a long time. I just don’t love trench coats for whatever reason…

ETA I just saw that Gap, of all places, has a nice looking trench in olive green, also in petite sizing.

What about this one? I love the Loden and Berry colors. www.eddiebauer.com/p/20612574/women's-port-townsend-trench-coat?sp=1&color=Black&size=&sizeType=Regular (I dont know why the link isn't all the color blue, but clicking the blue part takes you to the coat) Criteria: YES - Not wool. I'd like a lighter weight coat that I can layer underneath if necessary. YES - Ideally in a petite size. YES - NOT black, NOT camel, and not a garish bright color. Greens, purples, autumnal colors would be ideal. YES - Trench style that hits ABOVE the knees. I think? Does NOT need to be waterproof, but water resistant please. YES - Not a lot of "stuff" on it. I am small and lots of buttons, flaps, etc. overwhelm me. I want understated and classic.

The issue with this coat (while hitting all the criteria) is that EB totally co-opted the word Trench. That is not a classic trench coat. It also is a bit casual for what I’m looking for. I appreciate The effort tho!

I appreciate The effort tho! I agree…that’s a rain jacket, not a trench coat. The LLBean ones are casual like that too. Here’s an Amazon option with a lot of color choices, but still not petite, although the reviews seem to reflect it runs toward petite sizing. www.amazon.com/CREATMO-US-Trench-Relaxed-Fit-Water-Resistant/dp/B0946ZN7DS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1D6T9ID7GVEOA&keywords=Trench%2Bcoat%2Bpetite%2Bwater%2Bresistant&qid=1694627230&s=apparel&sprefix=trench%2Bcoat%2Bpetite%2Bwater%2Bresistant%2B%2Cfashion-womens-clothing%2C125&sr=1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1&psc=1All the petite ones I’ve found are the more casual raincoat style. What’s up with that, internet clothing retailers?

Am I the only one who now wants a trench coat ? And, I have never dreamt of owning one. But those London Fog ones are so dreamy. Not sure if you have made a decision yet, MichyM, but that would be my choice.

[/b][/quote] Wow, that price and the autumn red wine color are speaking to me…. It could work, thank you 😃 And yes, I’m finding that sometimes petite sizing is best for me (I ‘m 5’3” and a bit). However…it’s like when I was heading into petite-plus sizes, once a person hits “special” sizing, options become much more limited. Pissed me off when I was larger, and pissing me off now too.
