Dammit.
Since the system update for ‘security’ this week my phone battery is so shitty. It was fine last week, there was an update Sunday or Monday night and now my battery is crap. F u apple ( no I’m not getting an android I hate my work phone with a passion so no thx )
If Apple was sued and lost for updates screwing with battery life on purpose then Why TF won’t they stop doing it? I swear, these companies ought to get automatic double consequences if they continue doing what they were sued for.
It’s not like any of us are going to really benefit from the class action unless we work for the law firm that dud it that who really actually benefits. But I really would like them to stop the sneaky crap.

Ugh. That happened to me a few years ago with my old phone. What iPhone model do you have?

I’ve read that battery life can tank at first after an update - and then once everything has settled in with the update, it improves. I’ve seen that happen on my phones before.

Sometimes when there is a major iOS update, it does affect the battery for a short time because there are a lot of internal changes going on. I check to see if any apps are using an excess amount of battery power. I also power off my phone. I find it usually corrects itself within a couple of days. But, I haven't had this happen in awhile to my phone. My phone hasn't updated to 16.6.1 yet. I am using a model 12 phone.

Sometimes shutting the phone of for a good 10 minutes or so and then back on will fix the battery issue.

Go into your settings and look at the battery. It will tell you what is using it.
Check what is on all the time through your settings.

There’s a lot of stuff going on in the background to finish the installation, etc. and it can tank battery life temporarily. It’s also possible for some third party apps to have some incompatibilities with an update and cause memory leaks, etc that can drain battery life. That’s relatively unlikely with a security update, though, and much more likely with a major new iOS release.

I’m still rocking my 7 that has somehow forgotten how to be a phone and how to FaceTime. Calls are dead air on both ends of it even goes thru without a call failed message. FaceTime fails every single time. Sound works on videos and such. It’s weird. Anyway, I’m cheap and don’t want to pay more than $200 for my phone so everyone needs to trade in their 13’s and 14’s so I can get a cheap refurbished one soon. No way am I paying for the new 15 no matter how pretty it is. Thanks! 😂

Interesting to read this. My DS is visiting us and was complaining yesterday that, since he arrived in Europe, his battery life has tanked. He arrived on the weekend, just after my phone did the update automatically, so I wonder if his did too, and that is the problem..

OK, so I didn't realize how many apps I had that were running in the background to refresh! I just turned off 10-15 of them.
To check yours... Settings General Background App Refresh
You to may be amazed and disgusted as to how many are turned on. A lot of mine I haven't used. I really need to delete some of them.

My kid has a 12 mini that she’s had for a little over a year and her battery is constantly going dead, likely because she has all these apps running in the background. She doesn’t think that the constant notifications from Discord, etc. have anything to do with that but I completely disagree. She says, “I have all of them silenced, they can’t make my battery go dead!” Um YEAH they can, just because they’re silent doesn’t mean they’re not happening. Every time she gets a notification her screen turns on for a minute or so, and that happens pretty much all.day.long. And half the night probably too, because she has friends in different time zones.

But damn that new pink 15 is calling my name! I love the colors, but I have to have a good case on mine, and then it just kind of defeats the color of the phone. I tried a clear case, but it yellowed pretty fast. I have the Max Pro 12 - and it has always had a battery issue. My "Battery Health" is at 84% now - and has been at that for a long time. I feel like it was at that when it was almost brand new yet. But I can not get through the day without charging a few times. Mine was at 100% when I got up this morning at 6. It's 10:30 am, and it's down to 64%. I haven't used it a ton today. Did a little snapchatting, called DH to ask about fence, so it was a short call. A couple text with my kids and a couple pictures of a serial number, so I could have that on had. OK, so I didn't realize how many apps I had that were running in the background to refresh! I just turned off 10-15 of them. I swipe closed my apps several times a day. I generally never leave them open at all. But I for sure swipe out of everything 2 or 3 times a day. I have most of my notifications completely off. Only Text and Snapchat will light up my screen. Nothing else - not Facebook or Insta either. I think the battery life on the 12 is garbage. I have the newest update downloaded but not installed yet. Could it be any worse? LOL

LOL I have a 12 Pro Max and have not had the issues you have had. When the phone was brand new, that battery was amazing. I would go all day without hitting the red bar on the battery life. 3 years later, the battery health is now down to 84%. On an average day, it doesn’t hit the red bar until about 8PM. I have lots of apps open in the background. I get lots of notifications, especially from my outdoor video cameras. I live on a main Street through my community, so during the day there are always cars and people passing by my house. I have IG notifications turned on. I am on the internet with my phone, checking out here (like right now) and NextDoor, along with the news. I take pictures and video. I edit the videos on the phone. All that, and I can still go most of the day without recharging. What will drain my battery fast is playing games. I save the games for when I go to bed and have my phone plugged in. Lol!

Many more. Settings>Background App Refresh>all the apps that are refreshing and you may not know it.

Settings>Background App Refresh>all the apps that are refreshing and you may not know it. I have that completely turned off. I thought I did too. It lists all of your apps. Then if they are on background refresh. It was just very interesting as I didn't realize some were automatically refreshing.
