Are there any restaurants/fast food place you always hear about that you would like to try one day?
The three I want to visit one day are: - Waffle House - Cracker Barrel - Whataburger
I know Waffle House is not great, but I would like to experience it once. 😂 We passed a couple when we were in Georgia one year.

I want to go to a family-style Italian restaurant. We had two wonderful locally owned near us but the pandemic killed the family style version. I would like to try a real authentic steakhouse - not a chain.

I want to go to a family-style Italian restaurant. We have quite a few out here where I am. There is also a national chain called Buca Di Beppo that is family style. By family style you mean each dish is one big plate that is shared by everyone right?

I would love to be a guest during a recording of a Hell's Kitchen episode ... see the chef's struggle and Gordon Ramsay give people a hard time ... yup, I'm weird. If I was to go to a serious restaurant, I would want it to be a place called The Lost Kitchen in Freedom, Maine ... their story is amazing and the food looks soooooo good! It is almost impossible to get a reservation ... You can watch the series based on the restaurant and it's owner Erin French on Discovery +

I have a lot of places!
P. F. Changs Cracker Barrel The Melting Pot Famous Dave's
Edelweiss - German Restaurant that has been in my city for about 55 years and have never been! The Old Spaghetti Factory - There was one 70 miles north of me, but never went. We recently got one, but looking at their menu, I may never go there. The prices are ridiculous for a plate of pasta!
I've never eaten at a Ruby Tuesday or TGI Fridays, but have never heard but mediorce reviews of them, so they really are not on my wish list.

I'd like to do an omakase tasting at a good sushi restaurant. Unequivocally an outrageous splurge (my BFF and I went there for our 50th birthdays), but The Shota in San Francisco was probably the best meal of my life.

He’s been in the audience twice at Hells kitchen episode and he said it’s freaking amazing. They don’t get charged for dinner. He said the food is absolutely delicious and watching what goes on in the kitchen is something to watch

Growing up in LA, we used to go The Old Spaghetti Factory in Hollywood. That was a treat and for a kid, it was fun because they had trolley cars inside the building that was part of the decor. I always wanted to get a table inside the trolley. I have heard that the building has since been torn down. I have also been to other locations several times as an adult. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it is not bad. All entrees include soup or salad, and ice cream. The one near me gets really busy on Sunday's. I've been to the Melting Pot for company functions. It is pretty good. Yeah, I find Ruby Tuesday and TGIFridays to be just ok. They are never on my list of places I want to go, but I'll eat there if people I am with want to go there.

Nando's.
When we went to London the first time, there was one between the Tube stop and our hotel, but when I looked at reviews they weren't great. However, I didn't consider that the reviews for American quick service food aren't great either. After we got home, then it seemed like every Brit including William & Harry were talking about enjoying Nando's. The 2nd time we went, we stayed in a different area and never ran across a convenient location at meal time. I know they have expanded to the US, but not where we live and it also didn't work out when we were in DC in May.

I might have to give it a 2nd thought to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. I don't mind paying a bit more for a treat. To me though, pasta is one the the cheapets foods around, so a plate of noodles that cost maybe a quater, a blob of sauce and possibly a meatball will cost me almost $25 makes me dizzy. lol That's too bad if they tore the building down. I hate when they tear up my nostalgia.
Yes, Famous Dave's is a BBQ place. The one we have here was in a nice stand alone building, but during the pandemic, they closed and moved to a much smaller place in a stip on a very busy thoroughfare. Son went there the other day and was not real impressed.

Well, I have promised myself we will eat at the French Laundry before my daughter graduates from college in California but that's not quite the same vibe. ETA: Jollybee. Every time we see it in NYC or Chicago we say we're going to do it but it never makes the final cut.

My list is super random and include Lou Malnatis and Wahlburgers - I fell in love with them on the TV show.

Their chicken is good! The side are only so-so, but the chicken is delicious. They only serve dark meat, which is my favorite so I don’t mind.

I really want to eat at Atlas Dining. The chef had travelled around the world and cooked at many different restaurants, before coming back to Melbourne and opening his own restaurant, at the grand old age of 22. Every three months he changes the menu to a different cuisine. He has just changed from Spanish to Greek, and prior to that it was Taiwanese. pjaye have you been there by any chance?

Y'all are funny with the Cracker Barrel on the wishlist. I truly think it CB has some of the worst food. The theme is cute-ish, although I don't like the conservative crowd it tends to attract, but I cannot stand their food. There is a place south of Houston called eculent that I want to experience. It's basically a multi-course tasting menu that is presented fabulously. "An eculent experience is composed of 25-35 courses depending upon season and availability of ingredients." ~ www.eculent.com/

Famous Dave's can be hit or miss, especially the ribs. Their fried chicken is surprisingly great! Brisket and chopped pork are better bets than the ribs.

I like that this thread is mostly about "regular" places. 😁

Waffle House is my secret love. I just love their waffles. I love their sticky tables. I love their total friendliness. I drag my kids there every time I’m in the South (we don’t have them here.) My kids are like, “Moooooom, that’s where you go after a night of partying, yuck!” I finally got to try the Popeye’s famous chicken sandwich last week. It was delicious.

PFChangs is good- elevated American Chinese food. Cracker Barrel- breakfast all the way, the hash brown casserole is the highlight. The Melting Pot- very expensive for you to cook your own food, BUT you are paying for the experience. We have been once. I might do it again someday. Famous Daves- hit or miss, especially the ribs. Brisket and Chopped pork are a little more predictable. They have amazing fried chicken though- relatively new to the menu, but really good!

What's with all the chain restaurants? I want to go somewhere overlooking the skyline of a major city where they do magical things with food and serve it on pretentious little plates garnished with edible flowers. I want to go to a family-style Italian restaurant. You mean Mom & Pop or pass the plates? We have so many Mom & Pops here in our smallish town that they probably outnumber other cuisines 2-1. That's because half of New Jersey has relocated here. Every one of them is awesome. Just like how you know a Chinese restaurant is good by how many Asians are eating there, the thicker the New Jersey accents, the better the food. The only chain Italian we like is Maggiano's. I truly think it CB has some of the worst food. The theme is cute-ish, although I don't like the conservative crowd it tends to attract, but I cannot stand their food. Me, neither. Southern cuisine with everything dipped in lard and flour and then deep fried. 🤮 Go on Sunday after church in a southern town. It's an anthropological case study and explains our political landscape perfectly. It also explains our national rates of obesity and heart disease.

I'd have to think about this one. We don't really go out to eat much, usually just when we're on vacation (which has been a good minute).
I worked at "the Barrel" for ~2 years through grad school; the Famous Dave's is definitely hit or miss; and we weren't terribly impressed by Jollibee.
