I read Dalton's interview with Jeff and he said he called the casting director and the psychologist to see what they missed. Dalton seemed surprised, based on his interviews with the cast before the season started.
I think 2 of those castaways were really lucky on that tribe as a result of the decision to quit.

Is it done on the west yet??? Because I have LOTS to say!! Like WTH would you go on survivor? ? Once you've seen the episode, go ahead with your thoughts! It's been over here for over an hour but you don't have to wait. I can't stand Emily. And OMG the girl who quit and wanted to go home so they basically voted her out. If I tried out for Survivor and she took MY place, I would be pissed! And Brandon. Oh my! The yellow team is basically screwed.

Is Emily the negative one? Can't stand her. They should have voted her out and told the quitter to suck it up.

I’d be mad too if I I was somebody that tried out for survivor and she got my spot. They obviously missed something with her and the other guy who I can’t remember his name. If he has acid reflux, that bad that it feels like a heart attack, why wouldn’t they give him medication?

I wonder if the nicotine withdrawal is what really did Hannah in. If that was the case, why didn't she get a prescription for a nicotine patch before she came on the show? I believe players are allowed to take prescription medications, so that could have helped take the edge off for her.
I also think she had made her mind up, and would have quit regardless of any vote, so if her tribe had voted Emily out, they would have been down to 4 players, including the dead weight of Brandon.
Speaking of Brandon, I know they said he had a panic attack on the ladder, but he seems to be in terrible physical shape. If you'd been applying to Survivor since you were 11 years old, wouldn't you have worked on getting in shape over the years? It's not like they make it a secret how physical the game is.

I thought the same thing about Brandon! And haven't we all ("we" meaning those of us who always watch "Survivor") been saying things like this forever? Like, "if you know you're applying to Survivor then learn to swim" or "start getting into shape immediately when the idea comes into your head". etc. It's like the people on "Amazing Race" who don't bother to learn to drive a car with standard transmission. Whiny people push my last buttons (comes from subbing in elementary school probably, haha) so the gal who quit -- Hannah? -- well good riddance. The negative one is also annoying but at least for now she's at least keeping up in challenges. Brandon is just a liability. Although, I'm kind of glad there's at least one weak team for now because the former player who is being given a second chance -- whose name I forget because I'm terrible at names -- already put a target on himself. So at least if his team is doing okay they might avoid tribal for awhile.

I was so irritated with that girl that went home... what a waste of time, money and energy on her. To bad they can't have a couple of backups for the first couple of episodes for this reason. Still early enough to swap someone out. Then Brandon.. seriously? Uggg..
Anyone watch Amazing Race? I have to admit I do love it a tiny bit more than Survivor.. I am loving most of the teams so far.

I agree with all of what you all said. As for the one who returned, Jeff is the one who put the target on his back by pointing out that he was returning. Should be an interesting season...

Yes, you're right, Jeff mentioned it first. But then I think he -- what the heck is the guy's name? lol -- continued expanding that target by being annoying. lol. He said "oh I don't want to be in charge" then proceeded to try to tell everyone what to do. And that's another thing to add to the list of "why don't these players do such-and-such?"... everyone knows that you don't try to boss everyone else around at the very beginning. That doesn't usually end well.

Why do the lawyers think so highly of themselves? I have never once put a lawyer on such a pedestal that I would think they were more game savvy.

Yea, I think there are 3 lawyers on the show, and 2 are hiding it, and the one isn't. Who cares?!! Like they are so much more sneaky or something? or better? IDK!

Emily gotta go. I felt she was a tad bit racist last night. Really, you are calling out the 2 black people.
I would be pissed if I didn't get on the show and Hannah did. Has she never watched the show? It sucks!
Yellow team is screwed.
I also agree about the lawyers. Who cares?

In past years when players quit, Jeff doesn't take kindly to it and has said "get out, or get lost" or something like that as he snuffed out their torch. Last night he didn't, probably because its a because some of these players are part of the participation trophies era, so have to handle them all with kiddie gloves - OVER IT! Casting needs to do a better job of screening these people. As soon as the girl said "i have dirt in my shoe"...I just knew it - she's out.
and yes, it isn't fair to the THOUSANDS of people that would have gladly taken her place, but no, they went for the whiney girl that can't handle dirt in her shoe (on an island, in the rain and mud).

Yes, Jeff has called out people in the past who have quit- and isn’t Hannah a psychologist? It made me stabby to think of all of the people who didn’t get make the show who wanted it and were prepared
I’ve been watching this show since the first season ( as have most of us, I think) and I do not think I have ever seen as many whiners as are on the yellow tribe. Their tribe name should be “Bebe”.

Uncle Bruce FUN-cle Bruce... lol even worse.. if you have to lable yourself fun... then you are not!! If I was the yellow team... i wouldve still voted out Emily... she is sooo not fun.. and i dont understand why she wouldn't band up with the strong and they could be a force... instead she made the choice to be against her team... in a game where Jeff says all the time... numbers mean everything... Then id let Hannah quit... 2 down.. then you know Brandon as weak and uncompetitive as he is would be up next... The last 3 could potentially be strong enough to make it to merge... It was definitely an interesting 1st episode...

Finally got a chance to watch the first episode last night. All I can say is ... WOW. On the yellow tribe ... What a bunch of WHINERS! I am not empathetic for them at all! (I kind of feel badly that I'm not). A previous poster called them "participation trophy era" This is so dang true! I'm glad the two whiniest ones were able to comfort each other. Emily gotta go. I felt she was a tad bit racist last night. Really, you are calling out the 2 black people. I didn't pick up racism on this. I just think she's super paranoid and super b*itchy! LOL I wasn't 100% paying attention but it seems to me that the two folks she thought were aligned already were the most normal folks on the tribe! At least to me they were. They didn't cry, have meltdowns or anxiety attacks. And they are physically strong too. I'm gonna rewatch today and pay closer attention to see if I missed something.

I'm late to this thread and wow what a first episode.
When they were still on the boat and Jeff was talking about Bruce I was very happy he was getting a second chance since he was evacuated out within 24 hours of the last season. Then Emily opens her mouth and just goes on and on. I even yelled at my TV, "Shut the F up!" What the heck is wrong with that girl? Has she never seen any of the past seasons? What a way to antagonize everyone in the entire game right off the bat!
Then we get to the first challenge and my heart really went out to Brandon when he struggled so much on the ladder. They said he was such a super fan he'd been applying to Survivor since he was 11. How is that even possible? Children aren't eligible to apply, are they? Maybe they meant in a symbolic way? I read he'd had a panic attack and I can certainly sympathize with that but again, if you are that much of a fan I'm sure he's watched every season, and if he's done that then why the heck wouldn't you do your very best to get in shape before you got there? It's like we say every season-don't come on Survivor not knowing how to swim. Don't come on the Amazing Race not knowing how to drive stick shift. If you do you are shooting yourself in the foot.
Then we get to Hannah. OMG! Whine, whine and then whine some more. My socks are wet and I'm miserable. I'm hungry. I want to sleep in a shelter but no one has built one yet. I'm addicted to nicotine, and I've spent years trying to break the habit but haven't been able to do so yet, so I decided to come on Survivor anyway. Whine and whine and whine.
The two black people (I'm sorry I don't know everyone's names yet) on the yellow tribe who did the sweat and savvy challenge were tough and worked very hard. I like them. I thought they did a great job. Then they come back to their tribe and Emily starts her suspicious talk about how they must have lied and have gotten an advantage. What the heck? Is she racist? Well so far she's called out 3 people and they happen to be all of the black players. It's either a coincidence or she's racist. Time will tell. I can't stand her at all. I very, very much dislike her and can't wait until she's voted out. What kind of game play is it to cause so much animosity in your own small tribe so early on? I was really, really hoping she'd be voted out on the first tribal especially when the yellow tribe lost the first immunity challenge.
But wait, weak Hannah decides to quit on day 3! I agree with what Styxgirl said "participation trophy era". It's all about your will power. Hannah didn't have any. Jeff has said it many times. Most of the game is mental. When you decide to check out that's it. Shane smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day and quit cold turkey the day before insertion. He stayed and made it pretty far. I'm pissed at her that she took away the place from so many people that want so badly to play Survivor.
Can't wait until the next episode.

Those two particular players have more in common than just skin color that could make the Emily be suspicious that they are somehow aligned already. They are the only two that actually volunteered for the Sweat vs. Savvy Challenge. This separated them from the rest of the tribe for hours. Then again, I haven't rewatched, I wasn't there and I don't know this Emily gal personally. LOL :-)

I think Emily redeemed herself on the tribe. She is still in the #4 position but she made big strides to do better. And I don't think she was racist. Brandon clearly was the obvious choice to vote out and he was. He was supposed to be the puzzle master and he did terrible at both puzzles in this episode.
I'm starting to have my favorites on the tribes but don't know many of the names.
That poor girl who fell on the balance beam, that looked pretty painful but she helped her team win.

I think everyone is still getting their footing as far as who's who in the tribes, and they are focusing a lot on the yellow tribe (LuLu?) because they are such a train wreck it's hard not to. LOL I'm glad that Brandon is gone. He did tell a little more of his story which clarified his comments about being a superfan since he was 11, etc.
I'm not sure I really like Bruce. He doesn't seem like much of a team player. I know that is part of the big picture but in the beginning you sort of have to be to see where everyone fits in to the whole strategy. I guess we'll see.

This is silly, but I actually took notes on my phone while I was watching. LOLOL! That way, I wouldn't forget to discuss things here with my Pea Buddies!
First thing was that the yellow team was complaining that they didn't have flint and fire is life on the island. BUT, didn't they get to bring fire back with their torches from tribal? At least they used to ...
Second was when Sabiyah and Emily were having their discussion about the first tribal council ... I loved how Sabiyah told Emily "I can't help how I feel, like you can't help how you say things" OMG! This was awesome!
I was glad that the tribe gave her feedback on her game play AND that she took it to heart to help her game.
Poor Brandon ... I was surprised he went on the boat by himself to the challenge. It was funny how he spilled all the beans about his tribe and Bruce gave up nothing. And the kid in the middle from Reba caught on to both of these things.
It was cute how his tribe surprised him when he came back to camp.
It was cracking me up at the little gal on Bruce's team that can see right through him and his Fun Uncle Bruce antics. She said he's UNCLE but acts like DAD. LOL So far, I like her!
Lordy, I feel bad for the yellow tribe. They are a mess. I do think they will be stronger for getting rid on Brandon. I love his enthusiasm for being there and being even being excited for the torch snuff. SO unlike the first gal that basically gave up!
That tribe really has no secrets from each other. They just put it ALL out there. Everyone knows where everyone stands and what their game play and plans are. No blindsides coming from this tribe. LOL!
I really liked Sabiyah finding the immunity idol. That was COOL in the tree and you chop the vine to get it down! And what a neat twist that you have to MELT the wax to get the idol. AND it worked out the tribe has NO fire. Hahaa!

Elise definitely helped herself out this week. She gave a good explanation for her previous actions. The team needs to work together if they hope to survive. Brandon had to go. There is no place for a water boy on the team.
