This popped up in a discussion and none of us really knew the correct answer, and google wasn't helping. If a president serves his two terms, or chooses to only serve one and not run again, does the vice president automatically get the nomination for the next election?

No the vice president would have to declare his candidacy and go through the primary process just like anybody else.

If Biden chose not to run, Harris would not automatically get the nomination; and, I would guess, in that instance, wouldn’t. I don’t think that the Democratic Party would choose her for the Presidential candidate.
