Lexica these movies don't tend to bother me. I don't know if it's being rationally I know they are fake? Or what. But I like a little scare every once in a while. What bothers me are the action films Jeremy watches with all the gunfire, police chases, explosions. The gunfire just gives me terrible anxiety. I feel like my nerves are just completely frayed if he watches those movies without his headset. That is interesting. I am not a big fan of violent movies either but they don’t give me nightmares like the scary ones do. Have you had any personal experience in your life with gunfire or explosions or witnessed a real police chase? I guess my preference in movies would be documentaries. Something real that I can learn from. I am pretty boring.

Years and years ago when “Wait Until Dark” was in the movie theater, OMG! I saw Wait until Dark in the movie theater too! They turned off all the lights in the place for the last part. Scared the crap out of me!!

Has anyone seen the movie Monkey Shines? It was a late 80’s movie. A man becomes a quadriplegic and he gets a monkey to assist him. Well, the monkey can read his thoughts and the monkey carries out the evil thoughts the man has.

Dawn of the Dead, not the original with shambling stupid zombies but the one with the nurse and the mall and the fast zombies. I watch it every year. I don't find scary movies particularly scary but that one makes my heart race, especially as it starts as a mystery virus in the hospital. 😳
The Skeleton Key is great because you go along "that wouldn't get me, I don't believe in that" and by the end you're like THEY GOT ME! 🤣 Also, a Haitian coworker just put a spell on someone and we're all like DON'T BELIEVE AND IT WON'T WORK. I learned that from that movie. People are a trip.

I like The Woman in Black, I felt genuinely scared watching it and that doesn't happen often.

I can't say it's my "favorite", but DH loves scary movies and they are on my TV frequently. The Devil's Advocate with Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino and Charlize Theron scared the crap out of me...
The Stand (Stephen King) is more of a miniseries (I'm thinking of the one from the 90s) but is also really good.

Se7en with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman is great too.

I've seen it several times but The Shining was on a few days ago and somehow was even creepier than usual.

The Birds scared me. I was probably 3 when I watched the movie and that night I dreamed I was in the hallway getting pecked in the eyes like the man in the movie. I like horror movies now.

The original “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” with Jim Hutton.
Those creepy little punkin’ head creatures haunted my dreams!

Se7en is probably my favourite, followed closely by Silence of the Lambs. The Ring scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it.

It’s an older one from 1980. “The Changeling” with George C. Scott. I rarely meet anyone who has seen it, but it’s a great movie. We watched this one tonight. Good movie. Creepy but not gory. I give it a solid 4 stars.

I’m not easy to scare with a movie, but Funny Games is one that freaked me right out. I never saw the English version; the original German? Austrian? one was disturbing enough for me! 😯

Tommyknockers The Shining Carrie Fire starter (Pretty much any Stephen king but the gunslinger sucked as a movie)
American Psycho Psycho Saw (any and all) Thirteen Ghosts (original and remake)

I'm not a fan of gore, so I steer clear of those. I do like the "Jeepers Creepers" movies. Not overly bloody but palpably suspenseful. And fun, in a dark humor kind of way.

I am not a huge fan of slasher films. I prefer a good old posession movie or supernatural horror.
My faves are:
The Conjuring Deliver Us From Evil The Exorcist Omen The Ring Amityville Horror

I found both of these extremely unsettling, they really got under my skin but I don't think I'd watch either again. There's one scene in Hereditary that sometimes comes back to me late at night and gives me the wiggins.

Cujo, Pet Semetary, the Shining. Those are all good! Poltergeist (the original) used to be a favorite of mine. I also really like all the Friday the 13th movies, as bad as they are, lol.

I'm not a horror movie person but I'll occasionally watch Halloween if it's on. I tend to get nightmares. I don't know if anyone has watched From (I think S1 was on Epic and S2 was on MGM), that's a horror series. I haven't watched S2 yet but S1 gave me nightmares if I watched it at night so after the first 2 episodes I made sure I watched the rest during the day One of my friends said S2 was excellent so I can't wait to see it.

The original Children of the Corn.. They had to hire the most creepist kids in the universe for that movie. Some of it is kinda corny due to the age... but still creepy.
No one on earth could pay me any amount of money to watch The Exorcist.. I turned that on when I was a kid and it was the head turning scene. I thought I was gonna die right there and then. ugggg

Another that's creepy but not gory and has an unexpected ending is A Dark Song from 2016. That one stayed on my mind a while.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. It’s a found footage type film which isn’t typically my favorite, but it was genuinely creepy. It’s in Korean so you’ll have to read it, but it’s worth it!

I saw that movie when I was in middle school and I was horrified at the idea of being pecked to death by birds. 😂

I looked up a bunch of top 10 lists and most of the time that's at #1. So I figured I ought to see it.
