I'm doing October daily this month. As part of that, Jeremy and I are going to watch a scary movie every Sunday and Wednesday night. šš»
What's your favorite?

Itās an older one from 1980. āThe Changelingā with George C. Scott. I rarely meet anyone who has seen it, but itās a great movie.

I like the original "Halloween". I never liked Jamie Lee Curtis as she got older (I think her character on "NCIS" really turned me off of her) but in the original Halloween she was pretty much the first female lead in a horror movie who wasn't screaming and fainting. lol. I'm not a huge fan of horror movies because mostly they're too scary. haha I like science fiction better, even ones that are pretty scary like "Alien". It's probably because the horror ones just could be real -- I mean, maybe there are ghosts or people do get possessed or whatever. But we pretty much know, so far anyway, that the science fictions ones are just fiction.

I guess it depends on your interpretation of scary. I don't watch horror films like IT or anything supernatural but I like psychological thrillers like Sleeping with the Enemy and Gone Girl. One of my favorites is Joachim Phoenix as Joker and I am so looking forward to the sequel next year.

We saw Kwaidan in the late 60s which we liked. It's an anthology of 4 short stories. I think I'm going to try to find it to watch again.

I stopped watching scary movies decades ago when I decided real life is scary enough, LOL. One of the scariest movies I remember seeing was Pet Sematary. Really anything based on a Steven King book pretty much fits the description, theyāre all creepy.

I don't watch them, because I hate gory stuff. I liked Poltergeist. I like psychological thrillers, not horror films. I love Silence of the Lambs. Cuhreepy.

Off the top of my head, I always think of Nightmare on Elm Street. I like Halloween too. Others include Ring (the Japanese version), Carrie (the original), Beetlejuice, and Hocus Pocus. I love to watch scary/horror movies.

I was going to say the original "Halloween", but since that's been mentioned, I'll offer "The Others". There is tension in the atmosphere throughout the entire film.

I love a good horror movie. I prefer the ones that are creepy/spooky vs. everyone getting killed in the woods.
My fave is the Grudge. I likes both the American and the Japanese versions.

Another I like because of the general vibe is "It Follows".
An interesting tidbit is that they made contradictory choices in props that don't allow you to determine when it's taking place. It's creepy, not gory, and presents an interesting dilemma.

Buffalo Bill's house in Silence of the Lambs is in my husband's hometown (and it's now a B&B), and the exterior shots of the hospital were shot near my folks' house.

Holy shit, I watched that movie when I was babysitting and when the ball bounced down the stairs in the movie, I almost shit my pants bc one of the kid's toys also made a noise. The parents couldn't come back home fast enough.

When I was a teen, I loved the NIghtmare on Elm Street series and even the earlier Friday the 13th movies. I love horror movies with "lore" not just a body count. Eventually they just got too gross.
I liked the OG Scream which made fun of the horror movie genre, but also was a horror movie. I also think the original Poltergiest movie (the first 2 actually) were really scary. The Exorcist was creepy as well.

I love October and Halloween is one of my favorite Holidays but I am not a scary movie person. I can watch The Scream movies and the original Prom Night with Jamie Lee Curtis. I pretty much dislike the other scary movies.

I opened this thread to post this movie and was shocked to see it was the first one - like you said, not many have seen it and I have no idea why not. Holy shit, I watched that movie when I was babysitting and when the ball bounced down the stairs in the movie, I almost shit my pants bc one of the kid's toys also made a noise. The parents couldn't come back home fast enough. That frickin' ball. Four of us went to see the movie and the next day, one of them stuck a ball in another's locker - oh my gosh, the scream when she opened it and the ball bounced out

You are a brave lady! I am a great big chicken and cannot watch any scary movie, even if there is someone else in the house to watch it with me. Years and years ago when āWait Until Darkā was in the movie theater, I went with some friends. It was the first time I had been to any scary movie. I was terrified. After the movie was over, I was in the bathroom and overheard these two girls talking about seeing a girl in the theater that seemed terrified and ended up putting their coat over their head and clinging to the guy she was with. I came out of the stall and raised my hand, admitting that it was me.
To this day, I canāt watch anything scary and if a slightly suspenseful show is on and that anticipation music starts to play, I have to immediately mute it. The music makes it so much worse! I can sit through a short scary part if there is no sound and the rest of the movie is fairly tame. I know my inability to handle scary things started with my grandmaās murder. She was home alone when the intruder broke in. I am nearing the age she was when it happened and I have gone perhaps a bit overboard in mounting security cameras all around my house and keeping a panic button next to me during the night and when I take a shower.
So obviously I have no recommendations for you, but I hope you enjoy yourself! Iām curious though, do you not have nightmares after watching this type of show?

OT sorry but BFF piano teacher and I like the exorcist and I showed her a LV purse with a scene from the exorcist on it. The Exorcist is a classic, though.
Nightmare on Elm St. Scared me, too. Loved it.
If you meet someone who hasnāt seen Silence of the Lambs tell them to watch that. Suspense, gore, scary, everything you could ever want in a horror movie. I wish it could be new to me again I loved it and got so scared in it.

Lexica these movies don't tend to bother me. I don't know if it's being rationally I know they are fake? Or what. But I like a little scare every once in a while. What bothers me are the action films Jeremy watches with all the gunfire, police chases, explosions. The gunfire just gives me terrible anxiety. I feel like my nerves are just completely frayed if he watches those movies without his headset.

The Skeleton Key with Kate Hudson is quite good. Not gory, mildly spooky, moderate suspense, cool ending.
