I had not heard this but.... No indication where. If you need some things now, try to get it tomorrow. Walgreens walkout: Your pharmacy might be closed next weekBy Nicole Goodkind, CNN Updated 3:41 PM EDT, Sat October 7, 2023 New York CNN — Employees at two of the largest drugstore chains in the United States say harsh working conditions make it difficult to safely fill prescriptions, which could put the health of their customers at risk. Now, they’re demanding change by staging a series of walkouts across the country. Pharmacy employees at some Walgreens stores, including pharmacists, technicians and support staff, are planning a walkout between October 9-11, an organizer, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution from the chain, confirmed to CNN. Some employees plan to walk out for just one day, while others expect to shutter their pharmacies for www.cnn.com/2023/10/06/business/walgreens-pharmacists-walkouts-protest-working-conditions/index.htmlall three days.

Fudge. DH & I are supposed to get our flu and CV on Monday... hah. Our local CVS had a pharmacy walk out right when the latest CV shots came out. Corporations need to start taking care of their people, FFS.

I used to be a pharmacy tech and would sometimes have to call our local Walgreens pharmacy for different reasons. We used to avoid it if at all possible. They were dreadfully understaffed and a lot of the time it would be just a pharmacist trying to run the busy pharmacy on his own. I’m not surprised in the least bit that they are striking based on what I’ve seen.

Their auto system is trying to refill two Rx 90 day Rx that were filled in August. I left a message at my DR office to tell them NOT to refill anything until I contact them.

I can attest to understaffing at Walgreens. After I couldn't get an COVD/flu shot appointment at CVS where I normally go, I made an appointment at Walgreens. Whereas CVS lets you enter you insurance and other information when you make the appointment online, Walgreens didn't ask for that info online. Instead the technician who checked you in (who also had to cover the drive thru) needed to spend about 10 minutes typing in the computer for each patient. I waited almost an hour. When I asked why they were taking others who arrived after me he said that they were having trouble getting through to Medicare for approval. I finally left. When I came back the following day, the poor technician was the only one there and had to cover the checkin, drive thru plus the regular prescription line. I guess I was lucky to get my shots because our local news said that there have been problems with Covid vaccine availability due to problems with the transition to private pharmacies now handling the distribution rather than the US government. Many people are getting turned away when they arrive for their appointment because there is no vaccine.

I’m not surprised. The Walgreens pharmacy near us is horribly understaffed. The techs are often crabby as a result, and understandably so. It seems like the same pharmacist is always on duty every time we go there no matter what time of day or night, and she’s always swamped. It has to be bad.

Ours had signs up everywhere last week that they were closing early (6 rather than 10) due to staffing. I’m having the worst time with them having my medications. To make it worse, they don’t fill the medication when they do get more until you happen to call or drop by to see if it is in, and their stores are no longer connected so they can’t check stock in surrounding stores. I’m changing pharmacies as a result. I can’t just take a month break every other month, which seems perfectly acceptable to them. They need a complete overhaul.

That is good to know. I am supposed to get my flu shot & Covid booster on Monday afternoon. I’m glad that I planned that around something else that has to be done that day since I am a 25 minute drive from Walgreens.

The CVS around here have been going through walkouts as well. Understaffed, over-worked and concerned about the people they serve, they feel like they have no choice.
