Does your employer recognize you in any fashion for being a good employee?
I worked for local government/4 service public utility so our funds were very limited.
We had $100 and $50 "Star Awards" I could give to staff for a job well done on the spur of the moment. They could cash them in for various gift cards. We also were allowed approximately $20 per employee per year to do group things. My team usually picked going to lucnch together, and back then, we could get two lunches out of that money if I paid the taxes and tip out of pocket. I always tried to compliment and say thank you often.
My son started a new job mid April of this year for a small company, so one would figure they don't have huge bugets for this type of thing. However, in just the short amount of time he has been there, I have been amazed at the recognition he has received.
In August, they had a company picnic, so a 4 month employee. He received $50 cash for Rookie of the Year, with a plaque they hang in the building that says "shows exceptional talents, quick learning and enthusiasm for the job. Thought that was way cool.
He has received several Starbucks gift cards of different denominations.
He has received Chocolove candy bars numerous times.
He has received cookies from a Dutch bakery. He has received lunch a few times.
He has received a really good single chocolate caramel piece quite a few times. Kind of strange, but still it is in good faith. The supervisor will just walk up to them, hand them the piece of candy and tell them thank you.
He has received a camera bag.
He ran a store errand in his own car which probably used $5 in gas, and when he returned, they handed him $10 cash and a candy bar.
He has received 9 printouts of customer comments that are about him in particular from places like Google Reviews. Always with a hand written note saying Thank You or Nice Job.
Some are small tokens of recognition, but I'm astonished. I think some of their ploy is because they are a small company, kind of a family feel, but a way of attempting to find and retain good employees on a limited budget.
I hope you all are rewarded and feel valued and if not, maybe some of these employers need to take lessons from my son's employer.
I kow my staff bent over backwards working for me because they knew they were appreciated. Its the little things that count and when you feel valued, most will give way more than 100%.

We have cards that customers or co workers can write on to name an employee they appreciate and they put it in a jar. Sometimes that do drawings and stuff like that. They used to have a wheel to spin and win something small like 5 minutes added to your break or a free apple… etc
And they have this thing on their fb page where they spotlight a certain employee each week or so.
I remember the first year I worked for the company I was gifted a thanksgiving meal for 4 just for being recognized.

Teacher here. Parents appreciate us during holidays and teacher appreciation week. School administration and district office does nothing. I would be interested what other teachers experience.

I’m a teacher. I get zero from parents. When I first started out, I got stuff for every holiday. As time has gone on (26th year now) the parent/student gift thing has dwindled down to nada. I always make sure I send in a Christmas gift with my kids- my son is in elementary so the office staff, principal, teacher, classroom aides. My daughter is in middle school so I send one for each teacher. Sometimes I get my life together enough to do an end of year also. I get a birthday surprise from the district office- last year was a fidget cube, year before $5 Starbucks card. I get praise from my principal and secretary on the regular. We randomly get staff room treats from other teachers who bring them in just because. For teacher appreciation we got a little post-it box of different sized notes from the HS parent club (I think that’s who it was from) The union does Panera boxed lunches for all teachers twice a year. snyder I wonder if these things are given to keep people “happy” and not looking elsewhere. Almost like the whole everyone gets a trophy thing.

Honestly, the only recognition I want is a decent raise and the ability to do my job in a way and place that works for me. Those are baselines, obviously, but most people also need to receive regular acknowledgement and appreciation. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive or dramatic but it needs to be genuine. Being seen for their efforts makes a big difference to most people.

Being seen for their efforts makes a big difference to most people. It does, but when the baseline isn’t being met, some of those little “appreciations” feel like an insult. Like, we won’t pay you a living wage or any paid sick time, but here’s a chocolate and feel free to wear jeans on Friday. Yay.

Not in a long time really. When I worked for the government there was basically nothing except the once a year lunch for the whole staff (700 + people) which consisted of undercooked or overcooked burgers, chips and if lucky a soda (most of the time warm bottled water). My direct supervisor used to give me random Starbucks gift cards out of her own pocket. She was good to me.
Although during Covid we got paid pretty dang good. Lots of hazard pay. Bonus if you got the vaccine. But never had a raise in the whole time I was there. So there's that.
They used to take all the admin's out to lunch (50 or so of us) but that stopped when Covid happened and never started again.
Where I work now, which has been 10 months, there hasn't really been anything other than a quarterly meeting which they provide breakfast/lunch. My director and assistant director though are very supportive and always always saying I have learned this position very quick. (I say it takes a few years to learn it all.. there is so much).. they say I am way ahead of the game. It's a school so funds are pretty limited..

Yes!
We started receiving profit sharing bonuses a few years ago. The past two years I have also received an additional bonus because my boss put me in for them. Additionally, earlier this year I received a performance award which was accompanied by an ‘after tax’ bonus.
We have lunches several times a year. In August we had a catered bbq and an additional hour and a half for lunch. We have treats for different occasions such as ice cream, cookies, candy, etc.

Before we were bought out by a soulless Fortune 500 company, I received profit sharing and performance bonuses. We never had lunches catered or received swag.
After buyout, no profit sharing, no bonus, but lots of lunches and swag.
To me, there is no comparison. Give me profit sharing and bonuses, keep your pizza.

I think we have all seen enough facebook posts from teachers listing all the things they DON'T want to receive to be leery of giving any gifts to teachers. I always did small gift cards when ds was in elementary, but even those, Ive seen criticism of on facebook. 🤷🏼♀️

The tangible, financial recognition that the work you do benefits the larger team’s and company’s performance. But also the smaller, more personal and regular acknowledgements of you as a human, not just a cog in the machine. Wher genuine *appreciation* comes in and should be tailored to what you, as an individual, like. Things that show your manager sees and knows you and how you contribute- and not just productivity-wise, but holistically - to your team.

Big hospital - very rarely. Usually we have a week dedicated to us, and we’ll get little gifts and food, but nothing else the rest of the year. The hospital usually gives everyone a ham for Christmas.
I used to work at a small, doctor-owned surgical center and we received gifts and food all the time. We were very spoiled 😊.
Lol, no profit sharing or bonuses to speak of in our hospital world. It’s all kept by the bigwigs.

Not currently employed, but when I was...nope. In fact, they weren't allowed to give me the highest rating on performance reviews one year because I'd received it for the 2 previous years and it was tied to our (pitiful) salary increases. HR said that the highest increase had to go to someone else that year, so they couldn't even give me the highest review, even though the boss said I deserved it. (And yes, I confirmed that it was a real "thing" with an HR friend, so it wasn't just someone trying to let me down gently!)
It's been almost 18 years since I worked there and it still irritates me!

My kid’s school (well, the PTA organizes it) does Thankful Thursdays once a month all year long, where various people sign up to bring in treats, muffins, bagels, fruit etc. I always sign up right away for the whole year to bring cookies.

We do “Love” points which come with personal recognition with specific feedback which are pretty good. My boss also gives feedback in our regular 1:1s. We also have “employee appreciation” week where they do free lunches, company jackets and other swag. And our yearly bonus (5 figures) of which half is tied to your performance.

Our company does a lot for employee recognition, both individually and as a group. We have both Company-wide events along with department events. Our group always goes to a nice restaurant for our holiday luncheon. And since the boss lets us go home after lunch, we can drink. No drinking allowed if you go back to work. Company-wide, we get food on our annual bonus day in March. My immediate boss will give us stuff after she gets back from a long vacation overseas. And she also gives us candy during the holiday season. And employees get recognition at staff meetings.
When someone retires, they are allotted so much money to have a good-bye party. Some workers opt for a company-wide party, with drinks and small deserts in a big conference room. Others, will take just their immediate coworkers, and maybe a spouse, to lunch at a restaurant. They are also given a plaque for for their service with the company. I know that I will pick the smaller restaurant option instead of standing up front and greeting tons of people. Lol!

Yes. We just had a two-day in-person session in which we got some nice swag. Plus we get annual bonuses. We typically get a nice Amazon gift card for Christmas. And earlier this year, I received a $150 gift card for reposting the most company info on Twitter and LinkedIn. Which I only did because I thought it was mandatory, but hey...got me some money. I have won some other random gift cards here and there along the way.

I work for Finance at a University, so it is limited. My supervisor and Director both give out annual holiday gifts (out of their own pocket I am sure) and our CFO tends to give us some University branded type of gift each year. For meetings with the CFO there has been frozen yogurt or other treats handed out. I see other non-finance departments really taking care of their employees but finance is always trying to improve the bottom line.
However, I work for an awesome team, and I appreciate THEM.

I thought your title meant would your employer recognise you if they passed you in the corridor. Current job yes. Previous job, even with only about 25-30 employees in my branch, the management kept changing and I'm sure many of us were only recognised as employees by our uniforms...
But your actual meaning?
Our management is lovely. We all got bacon butties for working weekend vaccination shifts. We have been bought ice creams in exceptionally hot weather. Doughnuts have been left out in the kitchen by the management for anyone on shift. Pizza during out-of-hours evening meetings. And they arrange events like Christmas and summer parties for us, and once we each got a small bonus. But personal gifts? No.

We really are appreciated by our parents during holidays and teacher appreciation weeks. I will say that it is with food. We also have a parent who bakes large, fresh chocolate chip cookies each month for the staff and smelling them walking down the hallway always gives me a smile. We did have incentives for coming back last year, but it wasn't for being a good employee. More for being a warm body committing to another year. It was $ though. Our admin in building is often very complimentary, but $ wise, they do not have the finds to buy for 40-60 people (for a non-profit). I don't expect anything in the form of $ from admin though.

Side story: I volunteered for ____. The Person who was in charge wanted to show their appreciation with a lunch for the volunteers. So, she asked us all to bring a dish for a lunch. --I never did see how I was "rewarded " with that lunch.

My company uses Slack to communicate and they have Hey Taco implemented. Basically, you can give 5 tacos (emojis) per day out to fellow employees to say thanks or give recognition. Collecting tacos is fun because they come with certain rewards like 25 tacos for a $25 gift card or 100 tacos for a day off.
It motivates you to thank people and also get motivated to earn tacos. It's a fun way to get recognition.
