If so, how long does it take to make toast? I’m thinking of getting a different air fryer (I like the ones with racks rather than baskets) and am curious if people use that function or not.

No, I think it would dry out the bread too much before it would toast it.

I tried it once, and the toast flew around.

I have a toaster oven-style air fryer. I do not use it for normal toast, it's much easier to pop the bread in the toaster. I do use it to toast bigger things like Turkish bread or hamburger buns, but that is using the grill function, not the toast function. I sometimes use it to cook crumpets, because I like the top of a crumpet to be cooked longer than the bottom, and a normal toaster cooks it the same amount of time. My mum always uses her air fryer to cook toast. I tried it once, and the toast flew around. You must be talking about the basket-style air fryer, because it won't fly around in the rack style that the OP is asking about. I had the same problem as you with bread in my old basket style AF!

I have the Cuisinart Toaster Oven style air fryer and I use it all the time to toast sourdough bread. I do it on the wire rack and I love the way it turns out, only a couple minutes on 400 in the air fryer mode.

I bought the toaster-oven-style Ninja air fryer to replace my little toaster-oven (don’t have a dedicated toaster), and it works great. Never blows the bread around and the toast or muffins come out perfect. It’s set for 2 slices/4 (medium) on the darkness scale, and that works fine for pretty much everything. I keep an eye on it if, say, there’s only one slice instead of two. Could change the settings, but I’m too lazy.
Of course, I use it for air fryer business, too. But it also works great as a toaster.
ETA it’s on the toast setting when I use it for toasting.

Yes. I have the Emeril LeGasse oven-style air fryer, and I set it for two slices on the darker side, and it makes great toast in about 4 minutes. That’s longer than my old toaster took, but I no longer have a toaster so air fryer it is! I don’t toast bread every day, so it’s no big deal.
I really like the way it toasts my bagels on the bagel setting.

Thanks! I already have a similar style air fryer but have never used it for toast since the toaster is also on the counter. But the ones I was looking at specifically mentioned how many pieces of toast they could hold so that got me thinking maybe I wouldn’t need toaster anymore if I got that air fryer. Mine works fine but the racks and door won’t come clean anymore, and the handle has broken off on one side.

I use ours for toast, but I use the toast setting because it's an all-in-one (I like multi-duty things) I'm sure ours could hold a lot of toast, because we can put a 12" pizza in there.

I have a toaster oven type airfryer with several selections in addition to air frying, including toasting, rewarming, baking, broiling. I can't really say how long it takes, because you choose base on the number of slices. Not long though. The toast is actually better than a regular toaster oven, which tends to dry out toast.

Mine has the function but I can do a lot of things in mine. I often do English Muffins (instead of toast). Six minutes is perfect for mine. It also has one rack and one tray. I use the rack much more than the tray.

I don’t but only because I’m only ever toasting two pieces of bread (or bagel halves) at a time and my toaster does the job faster. I feel like it takes twice as long in the air fryer and I’m not that patient. Our regular toaster is a wide slot one so I can do bagels and other thicker stuff like frozen Belgian waffles.

I have a Cuisinart air fryer toaster oven. I mostly use it for toasting. For some reason, I rarely think of air frying anything.
I have used toaster ovens for toast for over 30 years. The Cuisinart makes much better toast than my old cheap toaster oven.

We have this one. I bought it when we were gutting our kitchen and were out a stove for 7 weeks. THEN our induction stovetop went out (15 months later) and we've been out a cooktop since mid-August. It has been used.

I have a KitchenAid toaster oven-style that has multiple functions. I do use it to toast things, on the toast setting, as one reason I got this style was to eliminate the small toaster oven, separate air fryer and toaster so I would have fewer appliances on the counter.
I like toasting things lying flat like in this oven - I can toast muffins cut in half, delicate things like pumpkin brioche bread, cornbread, etc., that would normally fall apart in a toaster. It probably takes a little longer, but I like the versatility.
