Just a whine
prior to this year, I’d never had any sort of surgery. I’d only been hospitalized to have my kids.
starting in July, I spent 2 days in the hospital with pancreatitis and gallbladder issues. The pain had been so bad, I was grateful for the pain meds and I paid close attention to the dr’s orders to maintain a low-fat diet until I could have my gallbladder removed.
August 30 I had surgery where the dr attempted to remove my gallbladder. It had become attached to my small bowel, liver and abdominal wall. The surgeon realized it was over his skills, so he cleared the area, inserted a drain, and kept me overnight.
The next day he told me I would have to consult a specialist surgeon to have the gallbladder removed. He also said I had too high a pain threshold and should make it a point to seek medical attention much earlier.
Four days later, I started vomiting with intense abdominal pain. Another visit to the Er and I was sent back to the hospital where the original surgeon removed a huge gallstone - almost 4 inches and over an inch in diameter- that was creating a blockage in my bowel. That surgery left me in the hospital a total of 6 days.
I met the new surgeon and we set what I hoped would be my final surgery for November. MRI showed inflammation had gone down, but the gallbladder was now also attached to my colon. Still, the surgeon was confident the surgery could be done robot with a minimal amount of time needed for recovery.
2 weeks ago I noticed the back of my right thigh was tender. Then my right calf became very sore. Over the next few days my right leg hurt so bad, I had to keep it propped up so it didn’t touch the seat.
After a day or so, I noticed I was having problems catching my breath. It got worse and worse over the next couple of days. When I finally thought to check my pulse ox, it was 89.
I went to my primary and they immediately diagnosed blood clots. The ER confirmed a large one in my lung and several more in my leg. I spent 4 days on a heparin drip in the hospital before being sent home on a heavy dose of blood thinners with plans to taper off after a week to a lower dose that I’ll remain on for at least 4 months.
The surgeon cancelled my surgery and I haven’t been able to find out when they might consider doing it. I don’t know that I can do it next year unless there is some sort of urgency. I won’t have the funds to meet my OOO
I just want this year to end and take all the bad luck with it. I. So tired of being sick and worn down. Knowing the effect this is having on my chance of leveling up at work is also causing me to stress.
Thanks for reading marcy

Oh my gosh. You've been through the wringer! I hope they figure this out so you can get better.
I have a high threshold for pain, too. My appendix almost burst before I got it checked out and removed. We have to be careful when dealing with internal pain.
Take it easy until you get it all straightened out!

Holy cow. You’re so NOT whining. That is far too much for one person to have to handle. I really hope that someone in your PCPs office can flag you as URGENT and work with you and the specialist/surgeon to get your surgery scheduled for this year.
Dealing with my own medical issues and finding out that this is a terrible time of year to need medical care as so many are in your shoes where they need to have their care completed by the end of the year due to insurance stuff. Sending you all the warm wishes…

Oh, Marcy, that is a lot to go through. I hope you can get the gallbladder out soon and return to good health. DH went through some rough gallbladder complications years ago. Thankfully it was all finally resolved. I hope you get a resolution, too. {{hugs}}

That is NOT whining! All of that is legit worth being annoyed/ upset/ frustrated by! Vent away, and I truly hope that you are able to get these issues resolved sooner than later. I’d have a really hard time not losing it over that chain of events. Hang in there, sending healing thoughts your way.

Oh my, what an "annus horribilis" (horrible year). I'm so sorry you've been dealing with so much pain and medical suffering. I hope you are soon on the mend and are able to have the surgery with a much better outcome next time around.
((hugs))

That is a whole lot to deal with. I know that you said that you can’t do the surgery in 2024 unless it’s urgent, but I think that you’re there. For your long term health and well-being, you need that thing out as soon as you can!

Oh goodness! I sure hope you can get this resolved and be on the mend soon! Do speak to the surgeon and tell them that you can't waint til next year as it will put you in a finacial situation if it goes into next year. They can probably work with you. My sister has been on thinners for quite some time and she's had several types of surgeries that they have her go off the thinner for a few days and then right back on. Maybe by mid Dec the current clots will be gone and they can work something out so you can get the very needed surgery. Prayers for you!

I’m so sorry for all of your pain. I’m even more sorry that MONEY could keep you from having such a much needed surgery. This country just sucks sometimes.

I have no experience with anyone being on blood thinners, so I wasn’t sure if it would be safe to push this with the surgeon. i feel confident he won’t do the surgery if it isn’t safe, but I wasn’t sure if I should push to be sure he was aware that I wouldn’t plan the surgery next year unless I was in distress. knowing there is a hole in my bowel that could backleak into my gallbladder is a bit nerve wracking, but not as much as word about getting the mortgage paid. Hopefully hibbys disability will be finalized asap and our finances will ease a bit.

Thank you all for your kind comments!
I am so tired of being sick and was really looking forward to starting the New Year off healthy. Knowing that isn’t likely to happen is a real bummer.
